Installing the OTA 2.1 file

OK, so I took the plunge (even though I started the thread about being proud to hold out for the OTA ;)). Very easy to do. One thing I noticed so far (just finished about 5 mins ago) is that all my apps were still there. I didn't have to reload them or anything. In fact, my lockscreen wallpaper was still there. Seems like the only thing I have to do is rearrange my screens, which as I understand it, you have to do with the OTA anyways. Oh well, I'll play with it some more and see. Thanks for the link guys.....I finally got sick of waiting

NEO

edit: Hell, even swype works without a problem....no reload.

v1 leak

Same here jcase

I just called Verizon and told the rep that I had the 2.1 update and was having the audio bug issue, and he was really cool about it. He said that they had no real reports of it, but he told me he was going to note in my account that I started having these issues after the update and that I could go into my closest Verizon store and swap it out. He told me that it would be a refurb, but if it doesn't meet the quality of the phone I give back to them, that I could call back and they'll ship me one.

Definitely looking forward to root access tomorrow!

can you elaborate on this "audio bug". I would like to know...for research purposes of course.

I posted a link to the same exact file.. but i guess people didnt know how to get it to work... not sure...

Fixed it, had to use the kill keyboard function to get it to show the mic button even though the voice option was already on. Not sure why it mattered, but for anyone running v3 leak that can't seem to get the speech to text mic to show up on the keyboard, just go into the set-up and kill the keyboard.

Thanks andrew, its much appreciated.

There was a bug that was happening to some leakers where your phone would just lose all sound. Your phone would vibrate when it was supposed to ring, and when you answered you wouldn't be able to hear the other party, nor could they hear you. The only solution was to restart the phone. However, some leakers said they have never encountered this issue and it was determined to be a hardware defect in the phone that was awakened by the 2.1 update.

is anyone having any issus with this as the same as the 2.1 leaks, meaning audi bug, or especially the 50% time without signal bug??

every time I start to pull the trigger on this I can't get past that it has "Desire" in the file name. Would get a better warm and fuzzy vibe if it said "Eris". Probably just wait, OTA can't be too far away

just used this update on my phone sitting at verizon wireless screen a little long after reboot....kinda worried....anyone else notice this??

edit just went passed that to black screen HTC then moved on woo kinda had me freaked out for a minute there

Look under the 2.1 bugs and fixes sticky thread...I remember something about switching to "airplane" mode and temporarily fixing the signal bar issue....however its only temporary...not an actual "fix"
For what it's worth, I get 1-2 bars of signal at about -78 dBm. My Moto Droid gets 4 bars at the same level. The Eris has better phone quality with the two bars than the Moto Droid has with 4. I don't think the number of bars means anything.

k. well as strange as it seems your all having the same problem i did and its an easy and blunt fix... but took me like 20 min to figure out.(im new to this stuff) for some reason when you go to save the file. you MUST rename it before it is saved to your comp. and you must name it update.zip and nothing else not Update.zip or update.Zip it must say update.zip. if you rename it after its on your computer or when its on your s.d card. it deafults and names it update.zip.zip. and that is your problem!!!! name it update.zip when you first download it and then it works like a charm. HTC Quietly Brilliant ;D and if you are doing this and still having issues.... i dunno what to tell you lol.

If you can alter mother nature you can change the fog into sunshine, rain, snow, thunder and lightning. The weather on the screen follows the weather outside.:D

FWIW

VZW Support Twitter account is still saying v3 leakers, and all leakers for that matter will be able to receive OTA...

@sgtcaulk Tech Support advised that all customers with the leaked version will receive the 2.1 update OTA. *NK

I wish/hope you're right, but from all my reading it doesn't seem likely. Well not you. Them.

If you're on 1.5 stock.
Put update.zip in the root (top level) of your SD Card.
Turn off phone
Hold VOL Down, press POWER.
It will boot up and scan for PB00IMG.ZIP, should find nothing.
Press VOL Down to move to RECOVERY (press power to select it)
The phone will reboot into recovery and show a box, phone, and exclamation point.

Now you want to press POWER and HOME (soft key) at the same time. You should be presented with a menu. One of the options should be "Apply sdcard:update.zip". Move down to it and select it. Installation should start.

Yes, wait till it is sunny. Sorry, couldn't resist. It changes with the weather. If you don't like that feature, don't load the clock with the weather on it, and it won't show up.

Pull up the instructions on the article from the homepage of phandroid. Download the file to your card, I used the PC to do it and ensured it was named update.zip, all lowercase, then put it in the root of the sd card.

Follow the instructions on the article and the screen very carefully. In all cases where you have to press two buttons...always press and hold the button that is not the power button first, then while holding that button press and hold the power button for a sec.

One of the screens, it is not in the instructions how you scroll, you have to read the phone screen for the keys that will scroll the menu, and sometimes the trackball works too. Take your time, have patience when it is deleting files and when the verizon wireless screen is showing, they do complete, it just looks hung at times.
