Installing the OTA 2.1 file

so this thread is long and confusing. Is there a way to install the OTA file on 2.1 version 1 leak? I never got around to putting version 2 or 3 on it.

I read the first 4 or 5 pages and then skipped to the last page.

I did read that this is not working on any of the 2.1 leaks...v1, v2, or v3. Sorry. Perhaps you could still try it and see if I just read wrong.

Good luck.

Had a rough time of it, cause I could not get it to enter the recovery screen. Not sure what the problem was, but deleted and re-downloaded the file and moved it to SD card. This time, I didn't unmount the phone, shut down, held in the volume down button, and just hit the power button (previous tries I held both in). When the recovery screen came up, followed the directions to completion. Long time on deleting files, and a couple of others. Just have relax and don't panic.

why does everyone call the v3 leak the same as the ota? there are missing features from the leak therefore it is not the same. I know that it is very close to the ota in most respects but when it comes down to it, the leak is not the same as the ota. I know i'm not alone in this type of thinking. My growing frustration on this subject is merely redirection since i haven't received the ota, but that may not happen. Time will tell but I will get my official 2.1.

What missing features? I'm pretty positive they are identical.

im trying this but whenever i get to selecting the file it says something like no such directory exists or something. cant remember exactly what it says. ****

I did this last night. I found, like OP, that you can't create speed dials. Also, you can't view the calendar in "day view"...it force closes. Otherwise, it's pretty good.

I had the same calendar bug. You need to go Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and find and click the Calendar application. The touch the button to "Clear Data". You will not actually lose your calendar data, but will solve the "force close" error that you are seeing.

Because so far, all indications point to V3 being the exact same as OTA. There are no missing features.. just an incorrect PDF file listed on the VZW site.

The 3d gallery, PTZ in Google Maps, and the friendwhatever software aren't a part of the OTA or the leaks. Everything else is the same.

But you're right, according to VZW and PCD, there will be a full file available for download soon, and you can wipe/reload your phone with the "official" 2.1 once it's available.

But again, no reason to do that, as it's believed by most that V3 is the same. So enjoy! You've got it!

Wait? The OTA (The "Real" OTA that we get on our phones) isn't going to have the 3D photo Gallery? That sucks, that was one thing I was really looking forward too!

where did that info come from? also I've wiped my phone several times and never had to reload MR2. Most info I've seen states that once you upgrade there is no way back, with out root anyway.

It's in this very thread, came from a PCD support rep. You don't have to reload anything, just stating that if anyone on V3 doesn't feel happy that they've got the real deal, the full MR3 will be available on PCD's site before long. The OTA file is for 1.5, not leak versions. MR3 is not going back, it's one in the same.

MR3=Leak V3 imho, as most on this thread have been reporting.

got it, was just confused by the statement. Once PCD releases "MR3" (name?) once can force an overwrite of what ever they've put on the phone.

No worries, we're all a bit confused by their processes so far... And my word is far from the gospel, I'm just echoing what most seem to feel about them being the same. I just wish VZW or PCD would come forward and confirm that LeakV3 is or isn't the same so we can finally put it to rest and enjoy our new software. :D

Maybe i missed this but has anyone yet been able to update from Leak v1,v2 or v3 to the OTA ??
No

This has been confirmed on these boards. It is not opinion, it is confirmed. Check the Checksum analysis thread.
The zip files of both v3 and OTA were compared side by side, and are absolutely identical.
The only difference is that the OTA does not include a bootloader change which is why those poeple can still root. V3 leak (all the leaks really) changed the bootloader on the phones, and those people are stuck.
Otherwise absolutely every single file is 100% completely identical.
This is not opinion. It is a fact.
Absolutely no new features. Not even any changes so small you cant notice. Just nothing new at all. And no bug fixes either. Completely the same.

Well said!

I would be willing to bet that not long after the 14 day update period is done, we should see a second update come through that will address any minor bugs they've not worked through. I've not had a single bug on my leak V3, but I know others have reported the 50% signal issue... which I'm wondering if wiping and reflashing with V3 wouldn't fix. ?

Yeah I am expecting another patch to fix some things as well.
I do have the signal issue, but Im taking a wait and see approach to see if it really bothers anything.
Right now I have poor battery life when I always got 2+ days out of a charge, but it is a whole new system, and that is how it was when my phone was brand new also.
So if after a few days, if it isnt improving, then I will try airplane mode, and that will tell me if the signal bug really is anything major.

Today I noticed my market crashes my phone, but it was only after being in there for about 10 minutes. I already have all the apps I want so I will never spend that long in there again anyway.

Some people are reporting lag. I have no problem with how my phone is operating.
But it does seem that there are enough bugs to warrant a fix at some point.

So if you have the leak installed, how should you go about updating? Should you manually do it or wait for the OTA? Will leakers even see the OTA?

I was on leak v3 and figured I was never getting the official OTA. So, I moseyed on into a Verizon store. I was having problems with my audio so they replaced my phone with a brand new one, no refurb. The new phone had 1.5 installed. I came home and rooted it. Now I have Friend Stream and Live Wallpapers and it runs very fast with overclocking. I'm a happy camper! :D
