Installing Theme from LG SmartWorld Store?

Anybody loaded the SmartWorld app yet? I'm trying to install a Theme I downloaded and can't figure out how to do so. SmartWorld website says that it's compatible with the G3 but I can't find what I'm looking for. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

Mods, feel free to lock or delete. Did some digging, looks like this is a root only capability. This may be the one thing that leads me to root haha.

Which carrier do you have? I have Sprint and had to go thru some extra steps to get it to work because they blocked it but, other carriers
didn't.

Go to settings, Display, Home screen and you should see themes.

VZW. I tried that, but apparently they removed it. Shocker.

This is what I did.
You can use the themes from LG World.

Download the "launcherpro" app from the play store, you don't need the launcher itself, just its "Activities" widget.

Add the activities widget to your home screen it will give you a list of apps/functions of apps that you can add as a shortcut on your home screen.

If you scroll down to "Home" one of the options is "Theme" with the subtext "com.lge.launcher2.theme.LGThemeChooserActivit y". Choose that option and you'll get a shortcut on your home screen that lets you change the theme(You'll have to install some first the phone only comes with the one default theme). If you get a menu with no options make sure you have chosen the right Theme option(my phone had two different Theme listings but the subtext was different only one says LGThemeChooserActivity).

This will allow you to put themes on the phone.

I agree with you. I don't know WHY the carriers would want to delete
something that we want to use to make the phone look different.

You are THE MAN! Thank you so much! Works perfectly.

I can't take credit for it. Learned how to do it on XDA.

Just passing it along.

Now that you know how to get themes pass along the info to
those who need it.

Stick the long finger to the carriers that deleted it in the first place!!

Just want to update. I ran into my first issue with the phone today. After installing LauncherPro and putting the new theme on it, my phone starting acting very strangely. The screen was unresponsive to my knock code and would turn off on it's own randomly. I tried a soft reset, which did not help the issue. Knowing there was only one major change I had made to the phone, I uninstalled LauncherPro and all the extensions (theme, fonts) that accompanied it. That solved the problem instantly. Kind of a bummer but I'm not too disappointed. I was just getting really sick of the screen not responding and going rogue.

Did you say Launcher Pro? This one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fede.launcher

That app hasn't been updated since 2011. It was great on the original Motorola Droid but I haven't used it on a phone since then. That might be why you are having problems...

That's correct. Didn't even notice the date. I was using it just as a workaround to get themes without rooting, as suggested by a poster above who got it from XDA. Haven't had the problem since. I might try the StumpRoot method soon so I can get it back.

Try nova launcher, apex launcher, go launcher...I think they all support themes and are current.

I used Stump to root my phone yesterday. Nice to finally have some things back.

The thing about 3rd party launchers are they most of the time they run in the
background and drain battery. I always used Go launcher in the past because
there is so many themes you can get. Right now I'm happy with the stock one.

Now just have to wait to get an custom recovery like TWRP and some ROM development.

I'm still having occasional issues where the screen will turn off on its own. I've tried going through apps and making sure all remnants of the launcher are gone (they appear to be) and cleaning anything else I don't think should be there. Also, just started noticing that occasionally the screen will have an extremely rapid flash to it, almost as if the screen is strobing. It doesn't turn completely off when it does this, but does dim slightly. That doesn't seem right. Any ideas?

I know you don't want to hear this but factory reset. If the problems still exist, it's hardware. If not, then it was software and be selective and install few apps at a time to narrow down what is causing it.

Kinda figured this would be the response. The only thing I can think of that I installed recently was the launcher and the theme. I've uninstalled them, so I guess it's reset time. Not a huge deal for me as I don't have much installed anyway, but it's gonna have to wait a few days as I'm out of town on business. Oh well...

I got to the point of adding a theme and it only had one option and another option to download smartworld. It wouldn't let me click download. TMO

Sprint did because they have their own LG SmartWorld type service called Sprint ID that offers wallpapers, themes, etc. Of course they all come with crapware included.

So, I downloaded nova launcher to change home screen-I downloaded the lg smartworld app. I can't figure out how to use it and my settings button has disappeared. Help?

Using the activity widget from the Launcher Pro app from the Play store you can get access to a hidden menu that allows your to toggle the theme setting menu on and off(among other things).

If you download the "launcherpro" app from the play store and copy its activities widget to your home screen it will give you a list of apps/functions of apps that you can add as a shortcut on your home screen. If you scroll down to "Home" one of the options is "Home" with the subtext "com.lge.launcher2.debug.LGHomeHiddenMenuActivity" . Choose that option and you'll get a shortcut on your home screen that lets you access a menu with a variety of options. The one of interest for this thread is "Feature_Hide_Theme_Setting" on my G3 this was enabled, I turned it off I now I actually have access to themes in my home screen settings.

Once you unhide the menu you can actually get rid of launcher pro and themes will still be accesible.

I've had none of the problems dubie7006 as had, using the D851 from T-Mobile.

Sidenote also now have the option to put my home screen into landscape mode "Feature_Use_Rotate_Layout" puts that into the display settings.

Funny side note small, small internet world. Damitu928's post on how to get the theme choosing shortcut looked awfully familiar, finally realized it's from my own post on xda-developer which is funny because I learned how to do it here on android forums. Its the circle of life!

Nemesis-Thanks.

I've tried to download Launcher Pro but for whatever reason, its not showing up. I'll turn the phone off and back on and see what happens.

I was using the widget from Nova Launcher and didn't see the file you spoke of. Would it be that different?

Again, I'm new at this so maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Launcher Pro does not have an icon in the apps menu, the only way to get the widget is to press down a blank spot on the home screen to get the apps/widgets/wallpapers settings to come up on the bottom of the screen and then you can get the activities widget from there.

I tried using Nova Launcher to do it earlier and it does not show the option under the Nova Launcher activity app.

Nemesis, the launcher did appear. I found the files you mentioned-feature home setting-it wasn't checked on my LG G3. Not sure what happens next....thanks for your help.
