Help Insufficient Storage Space Available when downloading apps?

You sure you're not married to my missus as well? LOL. Shes got a WF, and is always saying "Sweetheart.....what does this mean" when she buggers it up.

Maybe I should get her a Nokia 3210 for xmas LOL

May be a bit delayed but this made me chuckle good!

My missus isn't one for "buggering up her phone", it's just when it needs updating or setting anything up, I'm the first port of call. Ah well - I've rooted it for her, and got her running CyanogenMod 6.x - Seems to be running very slick! Few little minor niggles but I figure they're just bugs within the Rom. The 7.x build should fix this. However, I think a slightly older build will be slightly less taxing on the Wildfire. I may be wrong though as it's obviously build for a Wildfire!

A couple of times I got the Insufficient Storage Available message and was able to download OTHER LARGER apps without making more space after getting the message!...But then I got the message consistently, no matter how much storage was available, and eventually had to due a factory reset of the OS.

Is there still no solution to this problem? It sounds as though this is a bug and not anything user configurable.
I am completely unable to update anything due to this message yet having space on the phone.
The obvious problem of an OS reset is the time and effort it takes to get everything back up. :(

Seems the change from the market to google play is affecting our storage space error issues. Not only this, but it is charging us for previous purchased items due to your account being synced to your device with credit or debit card nfo attached. You may see charges from OMGPOP GOOGLE.COM/CHCA on your debit or credit account link to your google synced account. If you want to get an app to work just uninstall it and reinstall. In this case you may be charged 3X for an app you previous purchased in the market. Once for the app you purchase from the google market. A second time for the charge due to the change made to Google Play and then a third for uninstalling it and repurchasing it, and installing it again. I smell illegal here! Google already has made enough money off my first purchase now I am being tripled charged?

Hi guys,

How much is "enough" memory? If i remember correctly, you start to get warnings when your phone has less than 15 MB free. As I'm sure you guys are aware, a lot of people suffer from the lack of memory on the Desire and may not be a fixable problem due to the Desires limitations. The Froyo standard Apps to SD can only transfer parts of the app over and not the entire thing so that in itself is quite limiting. I'm sure I read that Gingerbread is more efficient at this and can store more on the SD so it could be worthwhile upgrading to the official update. But I don't think it would be a good long term solution.

Wiping emails and messages wont really make too much impact unless you have plenty of large attachments saved on your phone, but they should automatically save on to your SD card.

There are ways around low memory issues if you are unrooted with some of the guides provided on this forum. I can't link as I'm on my phone at the minute but will provide one if you can't find it later :)

I know it may not be what you're after but the other option would be rooting and having apps2sd+ or something similar to help expand your memory. This is probably the best long term solution but obviously you can't do this if you don't root.

Hope this sheds a bit of light for you as I remember how frustrating it was culling apps.

I couldn't update the game "X Construction Lite" without error messages, but removing it and installing it again works ok - good game shame i lost my saves... Good job I haven't bought any games yet by the sounds of it!

I recently installed a new Rom which used Google Play and it automatically located the apps I have previously paid for and allowed me the option to redownload them. Never had any issues of haveing to re-buy them.. Just to confirm you have linked your phone up with your previous Google account?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. I've recently upgraded to Gingerbread and LOATHE it. Can't wait till this gig is up so I can go iPhone! But that's neither here nor there.

I am having the same problem as everyone else.

LOADS of storage but can't download or update MOST apps. Most recently, the Instagram app for Android. But I get the error message nearly daily when apps are trying to update.

Have we gotten any further information on this situation? I'm so frustrated with the whole Android thing it's not even funny. If it's not one thing, it's another.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

It can sometimes mean your cache needs clearing. I would recommend asking in the captivate forum.

I have a Kyocera Milano (not too fancy i know). I've had this phone for about 2-3 weeks and realized i was running out of space on my phone. Today i went to Best Buy and bought a new 16GB micro SD card (brand is PNY). I was able to download 3 apps (a flashlight app, a game called paper toss, and voxer) until it started saying i had "insufficient storage" on my phone. I went to my storage settings and it said that i have used 8.5MB and still have 15GB left on my memory card and 8.6MB in my internal storage. I really don't know why my phone isn't allowing me to download any apps even though i still have most of my NEW memory card un-used. I really hope somebody can help me, this is SO frustrating. Did i mention this is my first android phone? haha. HELP NEEDED!!!!!!!

Android doesn't normally let you get below 15MB on internal storage. This is where apps install, not sd card so that won't specifically help.

If there is no support forum here for your device, Google one as there may be device specific options for you

First I would like to, know what 'Insufficient Storage Available' means and why it comes up.
It all started when my skype wasn't working so I decided to uninstall it and then download it again from the Play Store. Then it all started, whilst it finished downloading, it was then installing skype then a pop up appears and states Error: Insufficient Storage Available.

And whats strange is that in my external sd card it states that my total space and available space are both unavailable and my internal sd card I have enough memory in Total space and Available Space. Whats the problem and how do I solve it???

Hi, and welcome to AF!

As this thread is in the HTC Desire forum you might get the best answers to your problem by asking in the Samsgung Galaxy S forum, since if there are any device specific aspects to your problem it is the people there who will know them.

It sounds like your external SD card isn't inserted or isn't functioning. I don't know the memory architecture of the SGS, so is there an "Internal Storage" as well as "Internal SD Card"? Just wanted to check, as I know that phone comes with significant internal flash memory but it may be that part of it is treated as internal storage the way we mean it on the Desire (the /data partition, if you want to be technical) while part of it treated as an SD card. If this guess (and it is a guess) is right, then it's the /data bit (Internal Storage) rather than the SD-like bit that you need to check if you have an Insufficient Storage Available message.

you could also try moving your contacts to your SD card and sending them to your google account that worked for me when i had the desire, i only had to do it once

Was your debit card saved to your gmail or synced account?

I have been getting the error "couldn't install on USB storage or SD card" the past months, and I think I've tried everything in this thread (?)
Removed apps and files, only the basics on SD card
Factory reset
Foloowed these directions
http://androidforums.com/desire-tip...ore-most-apps-sd-without-root-simplified.html
loaded App2SD
I currently have 3.34 GB avail on SD and
37 MB on phone memory

but when I try to add more apps- NO! I get the error message.

Any more great ideas out there?
The phone is feeling pretty useless right now!

I had been trying to install an AB update after upgrading to Android 2.3.5 and Google Play and kept getting the "Insufficient Storage Available" error. I had 1.2 GB avai on phone and 10.5 GB avail on internal SD, no external SD present.

I only use Google App Market (Play) for application management and do not and have not tried to install third-party (non-market) applications. However, checking:
Settings->Applications->Unknown Sources on my Galaxy S Captivate enabled me to update from Google Play.

Hope this helps.
thanks for the suggestion pyoriainen

Omg, We have the same problem. Did you find any solutions for that? I really need to install skype on my tablet
, help help

Its one thing saying you have the same problem but it may be different. Please try to explain your own problem in as much detail as you can. It is also helpful to tell us how much space you have free in all locations.

Also, it may be worth visiting your own device's forum.
This doesn't seem to be a device specific issue. This happens to be the forum that has information and dialogue about this error which I'm sure why people with other Android devices are posting to this forum.

Yes but a fix here may be different to a fix for you. He isn't ordering you to move your post, but he is right, it might be worth it.

Hi,

When i try and install apps from the market, it says that i have insufficient storage space available, when i have enough, both internal memory and on the sd card. i have tried the good old turn off and on again, and clearing the cache and data from the market, but both didn't work  any one got any ideas?

btw phone is unrooted htc desire on 2.2
I've been having the same problem for a long time and I have tried everything short of throwing it against a wall.

i'll bump this, as i'm having the same problem, i've moved as much as i can onto my SD card, hardly have any photos on the phone, cleared all text messages & only have a few emails.
i wouldn't say i have that many addps installed.

any ideas before i do a factory reset??
