Root Interesting info on new OTA

OK... I have backups, so I figured I'd give it the ol' college try... my Stellar is rooted, with the ICS loader.... lots of tweaks. I took the OTA and it loaded. Well, it seemed to load 100%, but it then said it didn't, but when I looked at the info screen, it DID get updated.... and I got the crap that was listed in the update as well.

But it porked root... and TWRP... so I was screwed. So I had to go back to ICS, so I could root, so I could load TWRP via ADB, so I could restore my backup that I took before I loaded the OTA. So now its loading my backup.

Aw crap... got back to where I was, now the 'on' button for Wi-Fi just flickers on and off... blech... OK.. back to square 1.

OK... WiFi working when I went back to ICS, so its probably just the modem image on my backup that is missing. I'll load a JB (ICS ABOOT) and go from there.

Hey guys,

Don't know if the /system partition on your device is an ext2/3/4 type of filesystem, but if it is, the OTA Rootkeeper app should be able to save root for you prior to accepting the OTA (and, allowing you to restore root after installing the OTA, of course).

Best of luck!

:)

Thanks, I'll probably try that.. I was trying something quick... oh, in the instructions, you say back up your internal storage... do you mean just what's on /mnt/sdcard or everything

Yes.. OTA Rootkeeper worked... but I ran into some issues with the Wi-Fi device (may be unrelated), so I loaded a backup and will try again using the clean and restore method from above

Yes I meant everything in mnt/sdcard. And although I've never tried ota rootkeeper on this phone I have used ota survival mode in the supersu settings and can verify that works. Only reason I didn't mention them is because I figured the newest ota would fail anyway due to system changes that occur when my root method is used. (It changes the media folder, applies the old bootloader etc)

Funny you mention it.. when I tried it, it actually said it failed, but the update applied (I saw the new apps and the version updated)
I'll give your stuff a go... I want the update if not just to keep it from bothering me about it.
