Interesting read: PC Pro Article on Android OS updates

good article,

with regards to the Desire, to a large extent, the tech savy people who actually care what version of firmware they are on will be looking at forums like this and wont have too much of an issue getting 2.2 or whatever version they want.

The majority of the remaining owners dont care what version they have, they just want the latest popular handset and only use the basic phone, text, and social networking features of the hanset anyway, they dont have a clue that they are on an older firmware version or even what that means...lol.

Im glad I didnt wait for O2 to get things sorted though.

not really o2's fault as for most stuff they like to test it to reduce harm to the consumer. inevitably there can be issues with any update
The problem is that most android devices that accept wireless updates are ticked to check automatically rather than unticked by default

this means that android illiterate ian sees update available for android pop up and he clicks yes.
all of a sudden its doing stuff they dont expect or want thinking its a small time job over a crap connection and bricks the device because they pull the battery mid flash to stop it.

we know the build is stable, weve had it for a few weeks here so its because of user and environment issues.

id rather a provider goes through proper QC with the update then rush something out like voda and orange have in the early desire days where there were serious issues with the device because of it.

they only took 2 weeks from the build being leaked to accredit it

btw were talking a small percentage of the entire desire userbase on o2 reported it.
a comparative handfull
