Help Internal memory

I just got the Motorola Triumph as a gift for my mother. I installed all of the apps that she likes to use and the phone has just been on the charger until I send it to her. Nothing is being used yet I notice that the internal memory keeps getting taken up.. I've cleared cache from applications and still keeps going down. Not really sure what could be causing this to happen. (I would rather not root the phone)

Take a look at this thread- I am not sure how to solve the issue without root tho:

Did you do a cache wipe from the recovery menu? More importantly, did you turn off all (or most) auto syncing apps/widgets so that they can update manually ("on demand") rather than draining resources/battery life by activating services all day long? (Facebook and other social networking stuff, Gmail/email, weather/news, etc)

Its the .alog files that are taking up the space. I think( now i may be wrong) that if you just get a file explorer like Root explorer,(or any one that you can check the root status), you could just fix it because our phone comes basically factory rooted.

Okay guys. Thanks. I have done the cache wipe and I made sure that nothing was being synced. If It starts showing the "low storage space" I may have to just root it and go from there.

You won't be able to delete the log files without root because they are system files...

And you are absolutely right. But when you have, say.... Root Explorer, the FS are already mounted as rw. So you would be able to delete system files.

You still might need super user installed, it's been so long since I had my triumph I'm not sure. But even then like others have posted the whole reason you're getting the alog files to begin with is because the phone is pretty much rooted because they left the damn thing in a development state, gingerbreak will have you fully rooted in under a minute. :D
OB

Okay, so what will rooting allow me to do? Are there any downsides to having a phone rooted? Sorry, I don't really know much about this stuff and I don't want to do something to her phone if it will complicate things for her. :)

Rooting your phone will not obviously change the way it operates, looks, etc.

What it WILL do is give you the ability to manipulate (move, delete, rename, etc) system files within the Android system that you wouldn't otherwise have... in your case, that would be to delete the alog files (freeing internal storage space) and then change their permissions to read-only so they won't grow any larger.

yep.. my phone is rooted but it is still completely stock. Rooting give you the ability to change the phone, but you don't have to change anything if you don't want to.
