It's definitely a Triumph issue, and has been discussed here many different times.
For some reason on the stock ROM (only the stock ROM) it doesn't delete/clear those log files when it should, so they just take up more and more space. You can just delete them like was said, or install a different ROM. I think somewhere in the Triumph section there was even talk of a script you could flash to get rid of them on every boot.

Right, the latest info in this thread allows you to rid yourself of the problem without manually deleting the files every few days and you do not need a script either. Just set the perms to root and nothing can touch those files and so they will never grow.

Nice! I can't believe I didn't think about setting permissions at root level. I'm glad I came back to read that you did that. I was still manually deleting files every few days which wasn't too painful since I had a script do it for me.
I set the perms for about 6 files that grew all the time. Right after setting the permissions, I rebooted to make sure nothing had a handle on it still and none of them have grown since! One less thing to worry about with my phone.

whats up everyone. so i been reading this thread up and down.. i also have the same damn problem with my triumph lol.
just got around to finally rooting it. this is my first android phone so im pretty much a newb at this. i have yaffs explorer.. how exactly do i delete these damn alog files??

should i jsut go ahead and install a different ROM? seems like that takes care of the issue from what agentc13 had stated
just tried to install cwm so i could go ahead and install a custom ROM.. cant even get into download mode. the little android guy and a triangle with a ! appears. yikes.

custom roms do take care of the alogs, so that may be your best bet
as for download mode, if your getting that image your not going into download mode, your in recovery mode
Recovery mode = Power, Vol+ and Vol- all at the same time (once CWM recovery is installed this is how you get to it)
Download mode = Power and Vol - only
So far I don't think my Triumph has this problem, but I wanted to take a look and see if I have big alog files taking up space. I downloaded Yaffs Explorer, my phone is unrooted. the /data folder appears empty, is this because I'm not rooted? Or am I not looking in the right directory?
The info description of Yaffs explorer says it supports both rooted and unrooted, but gives no idea of the level of functionality if using it unrooted....
Is there any way to check without rooting, or if I'm not having low memory issues yet maybe I don't need to worry about this problem.

im not 100% since ive never tried to get to anything while unrooted, but it may very well be your reason, rooting basically gives your Super Admin access which allows you to view and modify folders you normally cannot
if thinking in computer terms helps any just think then that normally your just a low level user, you can download things and stuff like that but your limited to what you can actually do, rooting makes you the Admin and unlocks almost everything that was "out of your reach if you will" lol

They are log files that are used for system development, they are like memory dumps to show the dev what's happening at any given time, the code for generating them should have been removed after the phone was complete. Factory reset is only temporary, the alog files will begin to be regenerated as soon as you reboot after the factory reset. It literally takes less than 5 minutes to root this phone including downloading the software so just head over to all things root and get it done. Trust me you'll wonder what took you so long

So I am confused. I have my phone rooted now and so I heard downloading something to deleted alogs? I don't understand what a custom rom does or what some of the guides are saying. Like CWM? What are these?

Now that you're phone is rooted, download an app that lets you browse files such as Yaffs Explorer. When you start it, allow it to have supper user permission. Browse to the /data directory. You will see a number of files that start alog. Alog_events is the likely big one. Delete it. Be careful not to delete other files except for alog and logcat.

I had ES File explorer, but I couldn't find where the alog files were. I guess I'll try yaffs.

ES file explorer will work, just give it root permissions under options and click allow when the superuser prompt pops up.
I used a terminal emulator on my Motorola triumph. Once in the emulator typed sudo and it got me to the # prompt. From there I called the Data folder up and did a listing and found all my alog files in there. Deleted them all and got back about 100 megs. I wish I knew this all before hand before I formatted and installed from scratch. I was to the point of uninstalling just to make room for this crap. I had like 30 megs left. After formatting and reinstalling all of my apps and about 5 more on top...I had close to 750 megs left of internal memory. That went down to 650 megs within a week. Ridiculous!! It's obvious Motorola knows about it and refuses to do anything about it as I have seen in other forums that a moderator is deleting any messages that has to do with rooting your phone or using a terminal emulator to get rid of these stupid logging files.

Rooting is no big deal... It basically just gives you access to the root directory.
Anyway, look at the "sticky" Root Guide at the very top of the Triumph - All Things Root - Android Forums forum. There are 2 methods. One uses gingerbreak and the other just uses 2 lines typed in Terminal Emulator (free in play store) to symlink sudo (which is already on our phone) to su, which is what apps look for for root access.
Also download es file explorer from play store instead of yaffs.

Thangfish, Lost the thread I was reading (had to register to reply) regarding rooting and dumping alog_events file (if I recall file name correctly) to clear memory from my phone. Was able to root and dump file thanks to your awesome direction. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

sure, no reason not to. Just so somebody doesn't start playing around in es file explorer and deletes something important. You can always turn off root access in es file explorer settings if you're worried about, say a child or something playing with it.
If a malware program wanted to attain root access it would probably just use the gingerbreak exploit anyway.

Just like when enabled before...
ES file explorer -> Menu -> Tools -> Root Explorer -> Mount R/W , you will see a list of directories... tick the box to make them Read Only instead of Read/Write.
