Root [International] Backing up files before rooting

It has been rooted correctly I think because I can now use root only apps and have supersu. Thanks for the help. Is it risky to use phone for a couple of days before doing a nandroid?

You'll be alright to do a nandroid whenever you like, shouldn't be a problem.

However I think the cf-auto root method you used doesn't come with a custom recovery so you'll need one of those first.

Thanks. I'm having a little trouble trying to get clockworkmod recovery via the rom manager pro app. It's saying something like 'device not listed'. Is there another simple way to get it?

Also, I got a micro sdxc card and wondering if it makes a difference whether I put it in before or after getting a custom rom?

Just want you to know that I'm not ignoring you, but I'm afraid I'm not really sure what to do as I haven't used the same method as you and I'm not too sure about flashing a custom recovery from the stock one.

What I do know is that ROM Manager probably won't be a lot of use in this phone, AFAIK there isn't an official CWM recovery which is why you're getting that error. I'll try having a look and see what u can find for you

Edit: looks like I'm wrong, there is indeed an official CWM, so I wonder why it's a not working...

ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries

I managed to get it on by by flashing it from Odin. It took me a while but seems so easy to me after it's done. :D

If anyone else is having issues with that, I used this link - ClockworkMod Touch Recovery 6.0.1.2 for the Galaxy S3 I9300

So, to do an nandroid backup do I just boot the phone into recovery mode and select 'backup'? Once the backup is done do you need to back it up on PC or dropbox before flashing a custom rom?

Can I confuse things and suggest using philz recovery. It's based on cwm but it doesn't have a brick bug which effects some gs3's while using cwm. There's also the bonus of added features over cwm. Just flash the .tar version with Odin like you did before. There are 2 version from post #2 so make sure you get the one for your model

Yeah and to make a nandroid just boot into recovery and press backup. You don't need to copy the nandroid anywhere else as the phones internal memory doesn't get wiped when you clear data with a custom recovery however it can't hurt to play safe and keep a copy somewhere else.

Yeah you boot into recovery and select 'backup'. Depending on the recovery the default backup option can go to either the internal or external SD card, and whichever isn't the default will have a secondary option below.

Keep the backup on your phone, but you can make a copy and put it on your computer or dropbox or wherever you like.

I should also mention to not rename the backup at all as it could mess with the MD5 sum generated

Great, thanks!

OK, good to know. Thanks. I have already made a backup and it seemed to go well.

Yeah mate, going well so far. Just having a little bit of an issue with rom manager. I'd like to download roms through that but before I can do that it's asking me to confirm version of clockworkmod recovery, either 2.x or 3.x+

How do I find out which version I have or would it matter if I guessed and got it wrong?
