Root [International] Boot Loop At Splash Screen

Cool so u have a rare quad core exynos s3 in US Armand :)
What did you have to do to make it work in US? just change the APN and modem/baseband?
did u flash Carbon?

G'nite Viral. Had busy day myself man n think ive broke my ****** foot grr :D
Good luck with the phone 2moz man, this stuff is out of my depth but its good to learn

I didn't have to do anything, I just put my sim card in it and it worked. It does have completely different firmware than everyone else though. I didn't get to use carbon because it broke my efs file. I've tried Philz recovery and the windows efs software but to no avail. I would be happy with any custom rom but I don't think I'll ever get one to work for me. I still love this phone though. I have an HTC one that's modded and network unlocked but I still use this S3 cause I really like it. I would like to get a custom rom and build my own theme and boot animation but if I can't get one to work I'm still happy with my S3

Just checking to see if there's any new posts.

So you have basically the same problem as me arnan? Here's hoping one of us can get their phone working then ;) 2 head's are better than 1 etc.

Running out of ideas here though, did you get that EFS pro to work on your computer arnan? I might try another firmware flash and see what that does if i can't get EFS Pro to work, Anyone think that's worth a try?

If the worst comes to the worst can i send this to Samsung and have them flash my phone back to it's original state and how much would it cost?

Back soon gotta walk the dog.

Seeing as i'm on a 4.3 ROM, does anyone think flashing a MG4+ Modem onto the phone will help?

As you can see i'm still learning but someone on XDA mentioned trying that Modem as it's the Modem for 4.3 builds or is that just for stock?

Also, i turned off my wifi connection and checked about device > status and i have -92 dBm 12 asu as my signal strength and it's fluctuating constantly. Surely that means it's actually receiving a signal but for some reason it's not allowing me to connect to it?

i had a rare brainwave before, not often they happen. I've got a nandroid of neat rom from before i had all this trouble, would flashing that nandroid return my phone / IMEI / efs back to what it was before the trouble? Thus giving me a working phone again? That nandroid was made with CWM recovery and i have philz on now, could i still flash it with philz or will i have to flash CWM over the top of philz to try and restore the nandroid?

You can still flash it with philz.

I would try that and if it doesn't restore the efs use the ktool app to restore it once on neatrom. That's what I did in a similar situation. I messed up my efs folder when I tried to flash Illusion rom. I flashed a 4.1.2 rom and restored the efs.

I would recommend AOKP as a very stable, fast 4.2.2 rom. When I have problems, it is the rom I always go back to as I've never had any problems with it.

I tried the nandroid backup of neat rom but it says md5 mismatch and press any key to continue, it continues back to the backup and restore menu.

Oh well that's 1 more thing to cross off the list :)

Would Samsung fix the efs / IMEI number problem? any idea how much they would charge?

I would flash a 4.1.2 stock rom (downloaded from sammobile) using Odin. Then you can restore your efs made from before the upgrade. Then you can root and go from there.

Yes, same problem. I honestly think it's a problem with our firmware. Are you in USA too?

Couple of things spring to mind.

First, obvious one but worth checking you still have correct APN setup for your carrier?

Second, do you know what firmware and baseband version you had when backing up your EFS folder (the one you've restored)? If it was EMG4 or later and you're now installing an earlier firmware it won't work.

Useful thread here on xda that explains it better than I can, and sets out possible combinations that might work

Hopefully one of these is the solution mate.

I'm in the UK arand m8 ;)

I tried flashing the latest firmware, when i boot now it just hangs on the Samsung screen and goes no further, Odin says it's a pass though, strange

Just tried the earliest version and same happens ( can get into download mode ) so gonna go through all the firmwares and give them a try a few times each.

Cheers for your post saltire i'll check that out ;)

Like my girlfriend said just before " It's only a phone after all " then 10 mins later i heard this coming from one of the PC's .......

Hehe so true ;)

So i'll have a look at that thread tomorrow saltire, i'm going to take her out later for cheering me up ;)

Mine hung at the Samsung screen once, I believe I just flashed recovery again through Odin and it solved the hang up

Have a good night bro. We'l get the phone fixed eventually.
Nice info saltire mate. So should i be making an EFS update for every android version i use or just every modem?
Been on same modem for ages.
I dont get how OP lost his EFS through flashing Carbon... it wouldnt have changed his modem

Any joy here?
I hurt my foot so took a lot of umm chemicals and slept a long time until it was/is nearly better.. well i can kinda walk but i look tarded lol... anyway...

Hey Funky,

I got stock firmware working on phone again but still no signal mate and when i try any nandroid back up it tells me there's a md5 mismatch :(

That's about it mate :/

Hey Guys,

Thought i would update you as to what has been happening regarding the phone.

I rang Vodafone and they said to take it into the shop so they could send it away to be fixed.

Anyway, i got a call yesterday from the shop and i went and picked up the phone, checked it and they had restored the IMEI number etc and phone was like a new 1 out of the box.

This morning i very nervously rooted the phone, done a KTool back up of the EFS folder and backed that up several times, done a nandroid then flashed carbon / gapps etc and i'm back in the game :D

In the process of restoring Titanium Back up but it looks like everything is running good again :D

Thx to everyone who helped in this thread, great community ;)

:party::party:

Thats excellent man. Glad youre back in the game.
So they didnt mention the phone being modded or anything?:beer:

Hey,

They never asked anything m8. Phone was flashed back to ICS stock ROM / Recovery and i used Triangle Away to reset all the counters. Only thing that was messed up was the IMEI number.

Happy Days :D

Hi im having the same issue you had, tried installing CMod 10.2 (its for 4.3 but I was using 4.1.1, maybe thats why it failed?) and got on a loop where it only booted on recovery, tried flashing a bootloader and now it loops on the logo splashscreen.

Should I download a 4.3 firmware or stick to 4.1.1 (My phone was on 4.1.1)?

Can you get into download mode? If you can then try flashing the stock firmware for your model / carrier. Then check your IMEI number behind the battery and in settings and cross your fingers they match.

Good Luck.

Yeah I can only access download mode.. is it fine if i download 4.3 stock firmware instead of 4.1.1 (the one that came with my s3)?

Not 100% sure but i think 4.3 is tougher to root:confused::confused: Anyone confirm this? Knox or something.

I flashed ICS on mine then rooted it but i messed my IMEI number up so it had to go back to Samsung for them to fix. Hopefully your IMEI will be the same so you won't have too. Also ICS is easier to reset the binary counters with Triangle Away if you do have to send it to Samsung and not void your warranty.

Mate ill admit, i dont fully understand the issues with 4.3 either. I think most of us in the forum rooted while on 4.0 or 4.1 so wait until you get some definate advice
i know though that once samsung's 4.3 has been in your s3, if you root and even just flash a custom recovery, triangle away wont help you, a physical "fuse" gets tripped and it wont damage your phone but samsung will know and as far as theyre concerned, your warranty will be void :(
I hate samsung man

Thx for the info Funky m8, i never knew about that fuse either.

My contract is up in a few months and i'm seriously debating where to go after the S3.

So it's basically just Samsung phones that have this Knox thing and fuse thing? If so i think i'll move away from Samsung in the future, shame though i like their phones, without all this crap of course.
