Root [International] Confused on what ROM and Kernel to flash on my version

Hi Guys. Ive been reading through the forums here and XDA but im still confused on what rom and kernel do i need to flash on my Samsung galaxy s3 I9300 international version. I really dont want to mess up this phone thats why i wanted some help from the experts . Ive already rooted my phone and backup everything using titanium backup.

Baseband version : I9300DXELK1
Kernel : 3.0.31 stock
Build Number : I9300XXEMA2

Basically what i really wanted was to have a better battery life, of course new themes/looks/feel, remove all the bloatwares, and hopefully to add items on my multiwindow would really be great. Im doubtful of what version of omega rom and siyah kernel to flash as ive read that they should harmonically match with each other not to mess up the phone. Your help would really be appreciated specially for noob like me :D :confused:
 
If you haven't done so already make a nandroid and efs backup as well. More info can be found here

I'd recommend going for the latest 4.1.2 version of either neatrom or wanamlite

With either of those ROM's you can't really go wrong with siyah kernel or perseus

It will be impossible for someone to say which will be best for your needs so I'd say just try them all and see which combination works best for you

That's actually built into NeatROM already :) It should be in the app drawer when you first boot it up
 
Cool!! so that means after i flash NeatROM and Siyah Kernel i would be able to add more apps on the multiwindow?that would be neat :) by the version i have is

Will there be any problem after i flash. How about the modem. Will it cause any problem too. So sorry for all these questions. I just want to be safe before i proceed :)
 
No, you should be good with the modem. Couple of things that you really want to double check or do:
- Always make sure that the rom you download / flash really is for the i9300 (if it is you can set aside all your worries about the modem, since that shit was build for your shit)
- Always make a nandroid backup. Store it on the external sd just to be safe.
- Read and follow the instructions by the dev of the rom
Once all that is quadruple checked and done you're totally fine.

(if i remember well, in neatrom the multi-window function you're craving is short cutted by long pressing the back button)
 
Yeah after flashing neat you'll be able to add any app/ remove existing apps from the multiwindow. The modem shouldn't cause any problems. However if you do find that your reception isn't as good work the new modem you can always reflash your current one.
 
Thanks guys!! Does Nandroid also back up kernel? just incase anything goes wrong how would i restore my stock kernel? I was downloading this version of NeatROM XXEMA1_NeatROM_Lite_v1.6.zip i suppose this should be compatible with my phone :confused: another problem im having is whenever i download the ROM from the link it would stop at 53mb, the 2nd and 3rd try it stops at 87mb :confused: but the actual file is 617mb. I tried the mirror but havent tried the deposit file as it keeps telling me that my IP has exhausted. Ive learning alot thanks for all your advices :proud:
 
I would use one of the Devhost mirrors as they're probably the most reliable. I think the actual url on the xda thread is d-h-t.com or something. I would also go for neatrom lite 1.8 :)

i would actually get the 1.7 as sale has released an aroma mod for it which is not there for 1.8.

@OP aroma mod would let u customize everything on the phone(battery indicator, recovery, kernel etc). So i suggest it would be better to get the 1.7 instead of u want to be able to customize stuff.
 
i am actually really waiting for aroma for the latest 2.0(4.2.1) to be released. I am sitting with omega till its released. I am considering moving back to 4.1.2 got a few bugs on 4.2.1 which are getting to me now.
 
I'm still on Omega too. Waiting for another leak so Wanam will continue his efforts.

What bugs SW?
 
Im just gona stick with this just now unless i get bored lol. Theres a good chance il be in jail next month so i want something simple n stable on the phone so the wife can use it if the worst happens..
 
Flashed the NeatRom Lite 1.8 but after that i read about aroma so downloaded again.Just a question do i need to flash 1.7 first then install aroma or does it come altogether with that version? And i also noticed that 1.8 came with dell kernel i think so i flashed siyah 1.8,one reason also is that extweak doesnt support the kernel that came with neatrom1.8, so i guess when i flash again il do first the Rom then kernel :)
 
its 2 seperate files you would need to download 1.7 and flash it first then flash the aroma mod. When you flash the aroma mod it will ask you which kernel you want.

Well i know its a leaked rom so there would be issues. The few i have found

1) Cant swipe right to call from contact list/call log(swipe left to sms works to make a call u need to swipe left and quickly swipe right again then it calls but its a pain)
2) Lock screen gets hung sometimes and unable to unlock phone can only switch between widgets
3) Lock screen clock hangs randomly
4) not a bug but there is a horrible black portion on the top of the home screen that gets darker the longer u use it. I have to end up changing the home screen to a picture then change it back and it returns to the way its supposed to look
5) most of the new functions dont work(smart scroll, smart pause)

Thats about it i think
 
Got it! Finished downloading both :) does this come with yahoo widget like the stock coz i noticed ive read somewhere that it has been removed from NeatRom .any other way i can add this?
 
Yea thats actually what i did :) i wonder if i can change the charging current cause i thought by doing all these stuffs that charging would be a lot faster like the ics rom.Im using Stock charger and cable.downloaded an app galaxy charging current.Whenever i use the wall charger it only goes to 500 usually 400.I used an Ipad charger it gets better to 600.So if the battery is 2100/400=5.3hrs. Before in ICS i can charge it for about 2 1/2 hrs.From my previous thread i have tried upgrading and downgrading and evrytime i downgrade to ics,chrging is fast.hope this Rom would atleast fix it or is it really bec of jellybean :(
 
my stock charger that came with the phone is totally shit it does not even charge my phone. I put the phone for charge at say 30% got up 8 hours later and the phone had dropped to 22%. I have bought a proper charger from sammy and that charges my phone in about 3 hours or so.
 
what really kept me away from buying another charger is because its only 5months old:( and it only started after the jelly bean update. What bothers me a lil bit is when everytime I downgrade to ICS everything charges fine again lol. So im not sure if its a compatibility issue or what. Anyway i usually charge at night but its just so frustrating having this kind of problem after the update. Anthing besides that, the phone is so AMAZING and i would never go back to iphone ever again. And what makes it so amazing its the people from the android community helps people like me :) (I never was active on any forums when i was an iphone user) maybe because android is a bit challenging which I like ;) Thanks for all the tips... Im gonna flash NeatRom + Aroma now :D
 
I used an app that came with Neat to change charging current but cant for the life of me remember or find it :confused:
