Root [International] Galaxy S3 CWM Manager error

Use Philz recovery for nandroid back ups, flashing custom roms/kernels, etc

I usually charge my S3 each night depending how much I use it during the day. With light use ( 1-2 hrs a day ) it will last 2 days

Dont suppose you have any links for a noob fully explaining nandroid back ups, flashing custom roms etc etc etc. Im keen to learn more but some of the links ive read are a little hard to follow

What cfw do you have running on your sg3?

I don't have any links but I'm sure someone will come up with some. But basically a nandroid backup is a mirror image of your current setup that can be restored if anything goes pear shaped when trying to install a new rom.

In Philz recovery tap on Backup & Restore, then I always Backup to external sd card ( obviously you have to have an sd card in your phone:) ).

It's always a good idea to do a full wipe, wipe cache & dalvik cache, but I find the best option is to use zoots mega wipe which I flash before I flash a new rom, but it does wipe everything on your internal sd card and erases your current rom, so make sure you put your new rom zip on your external sd card and not the internal sd.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832326

Once you've done your nandroid and full wipe you install your new rom by tapping Install zip, then Install from external sd card, scroll to the zip and tap and then confirm.

Another thing to backup is your EFS folder, there is app in the play store for this or it can be done in Philz recovery in custom backup job.

Like I said I'm sure someone will come up with a better guild than this;)

I'm currently running NeatRom lite 3.1.

Also to bear in mind if you use mega wipe. make sure you back up your data on the internal sd card to your pc. I have TB backup to my external sd card incase I forget to backup to pc before wiping

Many thanks for all. Shame your miles away in devon to do it for me lol i'll get there eventually though :)

What advantages does your cfw have over mine? Basically what can your gs3 do that mine cant?

Well my battery lasts longer:D

To be honest I was getting good battery on stock. But a custom rom is tweaked to last longer, run smoother and has a lot of bloatware removed. Plus there is other customisations that can be done. Not that I have gone down that road, yet

One other thing. I know when i use Mega Wipe it removes everything. Before i had this phone previous owner had rooted phone. I think thats partly the problem with the battery so dont want to keep anything he could have stored in internal sd. How do i get round this? I no i did a titanium back up before reset but hope i didnt save anything he did.

Also what battery do you gave in your gs3 and how long does yours take to charge? Mines this one which looks dodgy if you ask me. Takes an hour 15m to charge

The reason for using Philz instead of Clockwork is that recovery uses its own kernal. CW uses a kernal that will write on the bad part of the i9300's memory and could cause "sudden death", Philz uses a safe kernel
I think Titanium only backs up .apk (apps) btw.
Maybe youd be best to start from scratch installing all your apps manualy to be sure of whats there

Finally some good news :) im now on Neatrom Lite 3.1 and my battery life is far better. Now at 48% from it being fully charged 12 hours ago. Many thanks for your help Pothers!

I backed everything up fine, then used mega wipe, then installed Neatrom. Was fairly straight forward and didnt take long.

One question though am i supposed to restore my backup data and efs that i saved through Philz recovery? All ive down so far is restore data through the backup i also made in Titanium Backup Pro

Phone functions so much better but most importantly i have a battery that lasts loads longer than before!

You don't need to restore either of those backups. The efs backup is just in case anything happens to your efs folder, which would wipe your imei and the nandroid backup is a complete copy of your phone so restoring it would put you back to where you were before you flashed neat.

Obviously that's not an S3 battery as the official one is 2100mAh.

Not sure how long mine takes to charge as I tend to charge over night but I would say it's at least 3hrs from almost flat

Thanks very much

Can you recomment any apps/games? Will need to find some guides on what I can do now im running cfw

To be honest I'm not much of a gamer, although I try (& fail) to play some games. I think it's an age thing (getting old):(

As for apps, QuickPic (Gallery app), Dolphin Browser, SwiftKey (Keyboard), ES File Explorer, Player Pro (Music Player), SMS Backup & Restore, WiFi Manager, Natwest app (only if your bank with Natwest;)), as well as TB pro, Triangle away that you already have
