1. Will rooting/unlocking bootloader void the Galaxy Nexus warranty?
2. Is Bricking a serious and how rarely does it happen?

Guys,

I've slid this thread over to the all-things-root sub-forum.

The good thing about rooting and the warranty deal is that you can usually put the device back to stock before returning it and making a warranty claim. That's one of the reasons why there's procedures for un-rooting and returning to stock.

I'd also imagine that bricking a development device like the Galaxy Nexus would be pretty hard to do. You'd probably have to explicitly flash a bad/corrupted bootloader. Having it unlockable really makes recovering it much more straightforward.

For some fun reading, check out this thread over on XDA about trying to create an unbrickable mod for the GNex:

[DEV] Developing UnBrickable Mod.. - xda-developers

You'd likely have to make a hardware modification to do this, though (and I think they are still searching for the exact method). There are folks that have done this for the Samsung Captivate...you could apparently flash the Gettysburg Address and still recover that device :D :p.

Cheers!
