Root [International] Omni vs Cyanogenmod

Well, in theory it's possible but the changes would be overwritten by the system each time you reboot. That's why I needed it to run automatically at each boot. Luckily it works with Smanager launching it, if you want to try it, let me know ;)

Cheers mate ill keep it in mind when i go back to Omni

Oh yeah, Team UB have started doing Omni builds again. Im gona keep an eye on that. Theyre good because they only build for the i9300 :)

You never know a nightly has issues until you try it. Nightly 17/12 breaks video playback on Omni. I went back to nightly 16/12 now. Hope it gets fixed by tomorrow.

Good ole nandroid mate eh. Would be cool if the updater could make a nandroid in the background while the OTA downloads. Wonder if that will ever be possible.
EDIT scrap that lol im bein stupid. All you have to do is flash the last nightly :)
Are their nightlies automated like a computer cooks them up and pushes them?

Yeah, it's automated, I've just flashed an older zip, it works fine :D

I'm trying to get videos to work but nothing wants to play. I'll try some more.

On the latest nightly aswell

I read chainfire say that if youre using a cwm based recovery you have to turn off some security thing to install the latest update. Just a heads up for anyone not using twrp

Yeah a lot of the rom teams are ditching CM, maybe partly through disgust, partly through realising that CM might not always be open source(?)
Next version of the rom im using now is gona be aosp based n i cant wait :)

Hmm good question bro. Hopefully theyve kanged that one thing lol. Ill go find out......
Ive asked the ground zero team. Omni doesnt have theme chooser does it?
..so nope. Their aosp build doesnt have a theme chooser "yet" but theres a new one in the works :-)
Think i can live without it and just use xposed for customisation for now

I think that isn't affected. Slim ROMs are based on AOSP, Paranoid too, and both support themes. There are many features which are forked, so we don't have to worry about that. Soon or later even Omni will have more features to play with. However, now I'm entirely satisfied with it when used alongside Gravity Box.

I can even have battery percentage the way I like:

Glad to see the S3 getting some true AOSP support.

They don't use CMs device tree at all?

Part of it could be the reasons you've mentioned, but another big chunk of it is that CM has moved so far from an AOSP base its not even really AOSP anymore. IE an AOSP kernel from googles source won't even boot on a CM ROM... Even on a nexus device.

I'm quite surprised, even though it's been more than a year and half since it came out, it's still one of the most supported devices in terms of development, despite being somewhat lacking with hardware sources.

I think the s3 is a 2014 device when its running the right rom. Its nice that theres teams still really focussed on the s3 and even on the i9300 :)
@Rxpert aparently the rom team im using will be using no cm code.
Its rumoured to drop today :-)

Nice. The anthrax kernel dev had been putting out cm free AOSP roms for the US S3 for his members early this year. Glad to see some available for the public on the S3.

Absolutely give that a flash :D

Will do. CM can **** *** ****** ****** lol :-D
I have no respect for their remaining team now ;-)
Merry xmas bro :-)
P.s, wasnt the anthrax dev one of the many major CM contributors who got left behind by cm.inc?

Right. Im pretty sure he had "beef" with them near the start of this whole thing though. I dont pay enough attention to the soap opera to really understand tbh :-D
I just know the word "cyanogen" leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. It seems to be the opposite of what i love about android :-\

There's a cm vs anthrax thread in the lounge a while back if you want the history of it (just don't resurrect it ;) )
