Thanks again Ironass. Final question, I'll keep it short:
Developer Options > USB Debugging <- does this need to be switched on like some other guides have suggested?
In a word... No!
It's hard enough getting people to read and follow the instructions in the first 4 posts without having to do a fifth one about installing and using a PDF reader.![]()
Geez I'm glad my phone was just point and click.. it only took about 2 minutes. Lol
To unroot it's essentially the same process except you download the stock Rom from sammobile.com and flash via pda in Odin![]()

Nevertheless I got it done and your instructions are easy to follow
Although I have not root my S4 9500,
I had problems in downloading the kernel from sammobile and got it here instead

I am struck at #2.3. Step 3.
Odin doesn't react
Confirmed that I can connect S4 using Kies to the notebook
Model number : GT-I9500
Android version : 4.2.2
Baseband bersion : I9500DXUBMF8
Kernel version : 3.4.5-007834
se.infra@S0210-04@1
Build number : JDQ39.I9500XXUBMG1
Since kies recognises your phone it suggests you have the drivers installed. Have you tried using a different usb cable/port. Could I also confirm that you pressed up to enter download mode before connecting?
I received an update to my drivers yesterday when I connected to Odin. Check that you have the latest drivers/Kies version = 2.6.0.13064_2_3.
Ensure that Kies is NOT running and that your phone is in download mode.
While using Kies to test the connection, I updated Kies
Used the 3 finger salute to close all Kies processes
Phone is in download mode
Hey
I need some help. I rooted my phone according the instructions here, but after i rooted, the phone started crashing. I noticed that before it crashes, my reception disappears. Anybody knows whether the rooting could've caused it? Or is it the samsung software? I'm still on the i9505xxubmf8 version. After it crashes, I can't turn it on as it'll crash again when it loads at the "SAMSUNG" sign. I need to connect it to a charger before I can start the whole thing. Would installing a custom rom help? Or is it just a problem of my battery? (I noticed how weirdly the battery percentage would increase by itself after rebooting it from the crash).
Thanks alot guys!

I haven't got the words to describe how happy I am that I found this thread (have read several others about rooting before I found my way here but none of them were even close to this one) but I'll give it a try:
Ehem! This was the best guide I have ever read, it's frickin foolproof Lord Ironass!

It's the best of the best and I'm so happy that there exist people like you that spends hours upon hours to help us dummies. I will remember this Sir, just give me a call if there's anything I can do and I'll do my best. I live in Sweden but there'll surely be something I can do.
), and, if I remember correctly, Norrland Guld Export lager!
And I also want to remind you that there are hundreds of people getting help from this guide that are as grateful as I but have no account on this forum.
Hello and welcome to Android Forums JWaldenback!
I wouldn't eactly describe it as, "fool proof", as I never cease to be amazed at the human capacity for screwing up or not reading the instructions properly.
Let me think... Hmmm! Sweden. Famous for blonde haired women, (I don't suppose you have a sister or cousin that fits that description), and, if I remember correctly, Norrland Guld Export lager!
It's the same with all my Dummies Guides. This one, for instance, has had almost 1,900 views so far and only 20+ Thanks. C'est la vie!
(always this bickering between Android and iPhone)
