Root [International] S3 Root Guide, guide for returning to stock + video [UPDATE: new, easier, single flash method]

Thanks, that seems to make more sense now. One question I still have though is about the screenshot that has the "added", "removed", "added". You say after putting the phone in download mode and connecting it to the PC the box goes yellow, and presumably it then says "added". At what point does it then say "removed" and then "added" again? Or does this not necessarily happen? It just seems that from the screenshots, all those happen directly after putting the phone into download mode and connecting the phone, in which case why is it removed and added again? This might not even be important to know, I just want to make sure that when I do it, I do it right.

That showing "added" and "removed" is the user unplugging and reconnecting the phone. You can do that as many times as you want in ODIN..Its not doing anything to the phone except making a connection to it.

I guess then that "added" only need show once then and "removed" not at all, at least at the point in the guide that screenshot was showing? In which case, the screenshot was just causing my confusion, I thought there was a reason for it to be like that.

I'll give it a go later or tomorrow and hopefully I'll manage to do it right :p Thanks for the help.

Lol, I'm quite the worrier so that might not be so easy :p

One other question since I'm not meant to have Kies open when rooting. I noticed in my task manager, without even opening Kies, there is a process running called KiesTrayAgent.exe, but there is no other sign of it actually being open, not even in my taskbar notification tray. Should I end this process before attempting the root, or is this a harmless process that shouldn't affect rooting?

I rebooted my computer after I installed Kies and made sure it works with Odin. Once rebooted, I didn't open Kies and went straight to the rooting process.

after i connect my s3 via USB to my xp machine, it did not install the USB driver. when i invoke the odin, the screen is still blank.

how do i force it to download the USB drive?

Install kies?

i am installing kies now. stay tuned.

kies installed. now i need to make sure the phone is 100% charge before i attempt this rooting process. phone is only at 62% charged at this point.

am i correct in assuming once i installed kies, it installed all the necessary drivers for the phone? do i need to connect the phone while kies is running to install the drivers?

hello guys! im all S3'd up, just having a play then its ROOTING time!! can anyone recommend a good stable rom and better battery kernel?

Mine says fail?...

The problem is instead of getting a .tar file, Im getting a .zip file and Im not quite sure why

Note: not really computer literate so Im not sure of the difference

EDIT: I think I bricked it, I followed the instructions but like I said it failed and then now it pops up with the error "Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."

I tried goin in download mode but I cant seem to turn off the phone since whenever I try, it just boots up to the same error..

I just updated to the latest Samsung firmware, i9300XXEMB1, through Kies and then rooted my S3 with this method which I have used the last 2 times my S3 f/w was updated. All seemed to work and Odin gave it as passed but when I go to check root on the device I don't have root access. Tried again with the same result. Any ideas?

Just worked it out, I had to install SuperSu even though Super User was installed, not sure why but all OK now.
