Well if they put an SD port and an HDMI, why stop there? Why not a Blu Ray DVD drive too? Thats because this isn't a laptop and its not intended to be. Why would Apple users pay $1500 for a MBP if you could get an iPad with pretty much everything for $500? Apple is not that stupid. People who need SD ports, HDMI out and all that other stuff should be looking at laptops and netbooks not tablets.

Besides the Xbox 360/PS3 are 5 years old and only have 512 Mb of ram. So technically the Atrix 4G and Galaxy Nexus has more ram then a xbox 360/ps3 and likely the same as the "New iPad".

"The new iPad" is not the iPad 3. Apple just pulled the "s" thing they did for the iPhone with the iPad. They just didn't want to name it the iPad 2s because it would be so damn obvious. xD (Or simply because the "s" stands for Siri and the "new" iPad doesn't come with it.)

Basically, its the same thing. Higher screen resolution, a slightly better processor, and a true HD rear camera. Although, I do have to give kudos to Apple for making it the same exact prize than the old assembly. In other words... Those who got the iPad 2 should have waited for this release. [Including myself.]
I wonder how long it will take for the jailbreaking community to free this new iOS... Most Apple devices will be able to update to iOS 5.1. The update should now be available to anyone. I, though, am not going to update because I don't want to lose my jailbreak, so I am simply going to wait for the next few months until the jailbreak comes out.
Anyways, only time will tell.

SD Ports and HDMI outs are commonly found in non-Apple tablets and phones. Just saying. Almost every non-Apple smart phone on the market has an SD slot and many, many, many of them have HDMI out capabilities.
I think we have already figured out a bunch of killer specs don't translate into sales. There have been plenty of tablets to come out with better specs but how have they sold? iPads sell more in a single week than these things sell in a year. It's not all about the specs...

I'm really glad we're finally getting into the 2K resolutions! It's about damn time. I've wanted a 2560x1600 monitor for a while, but they are all ~$1000.. I'm hoping this launch will finally popularize higher resolutions for monitor displays as well.. More screen real estate means I can have more windows open side by side and have less multiple monitors.

I think one of the most important aspects of a tablet is its display.. because.. well.. it takes up the entire tablet. So let's get some 2560x1600 displays in the Android tablets.

Well the same can be said about sales, just because you sell a lot does not mean you are the best or better. No matter how you look at it specs do play a part,the competition will step up their game as well.

Apple will reign for the foreseeable future. The quality of their apps and the fluidity of their OS is unmatched. Not to mention well designed hardware. Though, it is pretty sad to see all of that screen real estate, all of that horsepower, and all of those graphic capabilities, to only have simple icons and folders on the home screen.
That's because the vast majority of users want That power used in ways that matter, like gaming, photos and videos. Most people couldnt care less about customizing icons that launch apps or what a folder looks like. Maybe if you are a kid.

I'm referring to widgets that enhance productivity. For example, a calendar agenda on the home screen or lockscreen which is infinitely more useful than apples current "notification center."
I use 2560x1440 on my monitor (27") and have a hard time understanding why we need such a resolution for a 10" display.
The viewing distance for both is just not that different, it's for marketing more than anything else imo, but Android Tablets will follow suit I'm sure.
Also how will this effect gaming? will games all be upscaled or will the GPU's be left to struggle with the insane resolutions.

My 24"ers are 1920x1200... I wish all displays had high resolutions. An increase in PPI/DPI means higher clarity. If every display had 4 times the resolution, and every icon had 4 times the size, nothing that would be smaller, just way clearer. I can see the pixels on my computer monitor, and I'm sure you can too.
If I squint my eyes and get really close I can see the pixels yes.
I understand the arguement for this Dreamliner but at a normal viewing distance I don't think theres enough benefit to justify the resolution increase.
Been through this all before with regards to the retina display on the iPhone.
That said I wouldnt say no to a tablet with this high a DPI but it wouldn't have much impact on which Tablet I choose either.
I think one of the reasons the UI is so smooth... the homescreen is so simple!!

For the iPhone 3GS, the S stood for Super/Speed/Special and I would think the S in the 4S is not any different.

It is quite bad.
I have a HP Touchpad running ICS 4.0.4 and when I watch netflix, the subtitles are 3 points. It is so small, I can't even read it. There are things in Android that allows it to be flexible and scale to DPI. It works for somethings because apps don't need to be written twice. The downside, there are some glaring "phone centric" issues. Sure, some buttons scale properly but text and bitmap graphics are really, really tiny.
This happens on my 4.65 Galaxy Nexus as well. For example, my two banking apps, the input boxes are very small and the buttons require a precise tap. Some apps with login screens have nothing but lots of empty space and small form entries.
Some apps that look like crap on a tablet are ES File Explorer, ConnectBot.

What is the focus on quad core? What apps will take advantage of it?
Sure, the iPad 3 doesn't have quad core but it has highly optimized apps like the new iPhoto that allows you to edit 19 megapixel RAW image files from full frame DSLRs. What Android apps allows you to do that? Even Photoshop Touch on Android has a 4-6 megapixel limitation in resolution. All the processing power in the world wont help there.
The iPad 2/3 will still be better for editing videos and photos. Stuff that require heavy duty processing. There are still no apps that rival iMovie and many of the 3rd party editing apps like the ones from Avid.
The iOS ecosystem will still have better games. It will still be able to fluidly open 300 megabyte PDFs that I know for a fact struggles on the Asus Prime, Galaxy Nexus, and many Galaxy tablets.
I just got me a single-core Windows 7 phone for testing and it is faster than a dual core Galaxy Nexus running ICS? Everything on it is smooth like butter and no lag. The software is so optimized. Microsoft proved you can do a lot with software alone.
Lastly, you guys have to remember one thing. iOS uses the GPU for parallel processing. It taps the GPU to do CPU intensive stuff like video rendering and mathematical calculation. The tech is called GDC (Grand Central Dispatch).

I think anyone who knows anything about computer hardware, etc.. knows that Apple hasn't implemented any significant hardware modifications until this current iPad.

Honestly, comparing a TP running Android to an iPad isn't really a fair comparison. The TP was never meant to run Android and the version of Android running on it is basically a hack. Doesn't mean it's not functional and useful, but it is what it is.
I've got a Tab 10.1 myself and really enjoy it. There are definitely aspects of different apps that don't work on the tablet screen though.
