Ipad or Xoom??

Nice!

Also if the IP2 doesn't move away from slow memory, the already-outdated-samsung-A4-chip, and seriously improve the platform from a "toy", they are going to be outdated on release.

Right because we know that is what really matters. Nevermind the fact iOS is as fast as Android on half the memory and CPU. It took Android dual core proc to match the speed of a year old ipad.

For anyone thinking of getting a Xoom I would wait. There will be a bunch of Android tablets on the market and the Xoom will be old news in about 2 months. Plus the fact prices will come down and it will give the market time to mature. The main selling factor for a tablet are the apps, not the hardware or specs because in the end if there aren't Apps to support it what good is the best hardware. $800 is crazy for a device that only surfs the net and checks email.

I just got my Ipad like about 2 weeks ago and wondering what would you do?

Keep Ipad or sell and get the Xoom?

I really like the Ipad, but like the Android system on my Droid X too?

I am up in the air, but I am sure my husband would say no.

Thanks,Laurie

I'd take the iPad back just because its the wrong time to buy an apple product not because of the xoom. And having said that I would not buy the Xoom I'd buy an iPad 2.

Agreed. Not best time to buy the iPad 1. Return & wait if you can.

Does that help at all? Looks like the iPad2 will be a nominal update. Nothing revolutionary to see there. If you like the original iPad, then the iPad2 will be slightly faster, slightly thinner, probably a little bit better battery life, a camera or two, etc. It's a decent refresh, but, it's still just an iPad. Don't get me wrong, I seriously looked at one when they came out and was really itching to get one. I've wanted a tablet for many many years and the iPad was the first real serious attempt at it. (I realize tablets existed before the iPad but generally they were laptops in a tablet form factor and as such fail miserably). The iPad really is a "big iPhone" and for a lot of tasks there's nothing wrong with that. The majority of people are plenty happy with that.

As for me, I'm SOOO glad I waited. The Xoom is amazing as is, but, something that people REALLY need to remember. This is the initial release of a new tablet and tablet OS. There's going to be speed bumps. iPad wasn't even CLOSE to flawless at launch, either. Over time, it will improve just as the iPad has. The hardware is remarkable and will scale pretty well over time. People are just now going to start thinking about what a honeycomb tablet can do and then they'll write those awesome apps. We're called early adopters for a reason. We want to see that evolution happen in front of us. A year from now, the google experience tablet will be quite an amazing thing I think. Allow it to grow. :) For me, Xoom all the way.

Look into thetoshibatablet.com full USB 2.0, miniUSB, full SD card slot, and HDMI out.

It looks SLICK and has a user replaceable battery!

Overall the wifi is going to come out first in spring (late march early april is the current estimate) and should be competitive with the iPad (around 400-500ish).

I am easily going with Toshiba vs Motorola, although that could have been different if they released the Xoom wifi only with the 3g unit, that was a big oversight, I hope they got paid well by Verizon...

If android tablets cant match iPad on two very important things for me I'd consider them. Battery life (I can use my iPad all day and have plenty of juice) and quality apps. Quality apps for me are centered around education, magazines, and microsoft office.

Too subjective on apps, but battery on gTablet lasts as long as the iPad. If you keep the phone radios turned off, the Xoom should too.

For apps in general, nothing ATM touches iTunes and that is obvious. Exception mainly being game emulators. Android rocks real hard for them :)

Battery is about one third smaller on the Toshiba, so probably needs to be replaced ;) Probably part of the business plan for the device, by getting add-on battery sales :)

All should have battery access, but everything is relative (Toshiba has much smaller battery).

Exactly! I have the Ipad and just went and played with the Zoom and I was impressed but speed etc. seemed very comparable on both devices.

I have to give IOS credit. They do more with less somehow.

.. . The hardware is remarkable and will scale pretty well over time.

We'll see ... Tegra 2 seems great. The screen? Meh for me, very little contrast. Issues with photos (at least in the Gallery app). Nothing at all remarkable about the screen IMO after 1 day.

People are just now going to start thinking about what a honeycomb tablet can do and then they'll write those awesome apps.

I think that will help significantly, when it comes. Just using 2 Honeycomb-specific apps now makes a HUGE difference to me in my tablet experience.

Being early adopter also means experiencing the pain of non-working features (flash, 4G, SD card, little tablet apps) that all will be improved by waiting a bit. I like my XOOM, but I am feeling some of the early adopter growing pains of it ..

I agree. The Toshiba looks awesome. The Xoom is pretty awesome too though so I am not meaning to bash the Xoom. Either is a great tablet. But if you are willing to wait a bit longer the Toshiba looks a bit better than the Xoom.

I can't tell though about memory though on it. Sometimes it appears to be 32 gig installed and 32 for the card, but other times I have seen it described as 32 gig total, 16 on board and 16 on a card. That spec could bother me. I really would like to have 64 gig available in total.

I really chose Andoid because of the seamless integration of all my information in the cloud. Kind of like enterprise server for free.

I looked at both side by side, and I could have walked out with either tablet. For me, the Xoom won hands down, it's a far more powerful device, and once custom roms are available things will get even better. The iPad2 specs are completely underwhelming IMO....

I'm so sick of all the ipad/Xoom comparisons.
I NEVER wanted an ipad.
Its just a big iPod touch. Revolutionary? I think not. Didn't even come w/ a camera...
Oh that's right, that was intentional. That way all of Steve's suckers, er I mean customers will think the hook and bait that's in their mouths, is still real...Steve is very good at reeling in all the little fish.

This Boss Hog will stick to the OpenOS waters and stick to the REAL hardware

How can people seriously keep comparing Apple iOs to an OpenOS?

My iPhone friend's by a new iPhone every time a new feature is added. Most apple sales are to existing customers.

Agreed, I chuckle at apple fanboys but I did buy an ipad (drunk, online purchase. No joke) and I love it, well after it was jailbroken. Everything just works on an I device. I will keep both my I pad
And my xoom. Android is more trendy :-P

I feel bad for those that buy into anything because of trends.
One should only buy something because its something you, yourself, like. That's what seperates a man/woman from the planet full of sheep.
Android is not trendy, its just the best Mobile tech out.
Its OS is based off the Linux kernel.
Trendy are ipods, iphones, iPads, and hollister clothing.
This is your brain...
This is your brain on iDevices.
Any questions?

The most notable apps in the Xoom app thread was a buggy CNN app, a weather app, and astro file manager. And the xoom only costs $800...

I don't see the comparison either.

Yeah, I don't see the comparison either. ipad apps were buggy or non-compat on the release. Plus you can't get one on VZW natively.

Give it a few days and those bugs will be worked out for honeycomb!

I don't know why people call apples apps quality. They have quantity, no doubt. But their apps aren't any better than Androids. So many apps on iTunes just blow.

Hmm, I wonder why I paid $651.94, no contract out the door. I swear that's not 800.

Only a joke :) your correct android is neither trendy nor a good fit for those easily swayed by trends. Just say no. Live above the influence. Yah for anti drug quotes :D

"similar" ipad, and I use that loosely, is $729.

bump to the 64Gb and it's $829 (just add a cheap 32G card to the xoom once the update hits).

I'd say the pricing is spot on.

edit: and there's no subsidy pricing with the ipad. So really compare the xoom at $600 :)
