Ipad or Xoom??

I am saying that if you place them side by side (Ipad 1) you will feel that they both run the same, fast & smooth. However many people view the IPAD screen as better and all reviews say the Ipad 2 is even faster.
Size is important you need a sweet spot where it's not a hassle to carry it. The IPAD 2 is much slimmer which I really like.
Spec's - They don't matter it the experiance when it comes on. Bootup time, screen response, screen brightness it what you get when you use it not the spec's. And yes the B&N Nook is a great device which you can put in your pocket !

The only ones who are'nt worried about specs are pad users because they don't have them. All reviews? Yeah okay sparky.

No way the Xoom is much faster than ipad 1. I had an ipad and my daughter still has one. Xoom is quicker and smoother hands down. Most likely ipad 2 will be on par with Xoom speed wise. But Xoom will handle heavier multi tasking with higher ram. Although no one knows ram in ipad 2 yet most think is only half a gig.

Features, SD, 4g, Open Apps & Flash Xoom wins !

I listed it for 300 w pics just a few bites...200 lol I will play golf w it before I sell it for 200

Then, get ready to play golf with it. A brand new iPad 1 16GB is only $349. The price for a used one will just keep dropping.

I think most ppl that own a computer and a tablet will want to exchange data between the two, and not have to search the interent to figure out how to do it.

No searching of the internet. Plug in your tablet to the PC, and drag-and-drop. All users of PC's know how to drag and drop. You know? Basic file copying.

If you don't want to have to drag and drop, then use a cloud provider (Such as Google Docs or webdrive.com). Or, find another solution.

Last I checked, you can't really sync documents between an iPad and your PC without following the same steps.

Yes, email is primarily hosted by a third party. Music, vacation photos, and dvd rips are primarily not hosted by a third party.

And, most people I know use PhotoBucket for vacation photos, music is synced just by using Windows Media Player (Or the player of choice), and DVD rips are yesterday's news (Hello Netflix/Hulu).

If the user has to be aware of, search for, test, and possibly purchase these options, it's absolutely a penalty. You might as well ship an android phone without a phone app and allow the user to selected from the many options in the market. I just don't see the defense for android not providing sync capability across all of its devices.

You don't really need an app to sync. Drag and drop, my friend. Many phones even come with Sync software. Or, you can pick any of the thousands of other solutions to do sync.

Your apps, your email, calendar, and your contacts however sync seamlessly just by signing into the phone with your Google account.

I doubt only 2% of consumers want photos, music, and movies on their android devices. :)

How do you know? Most people I know take a pic, and immediatley (From the camera interface) upload it to Facebook and Photobucket. Most I know don't even care if it's on their phone or now.

Music and movies? Drag and drop, or use the built-into-the-OS-of-choice Media manager (Windows Media Player, Rhythm Box, etc).

It doesn't really get easier than that. It's definitley MUCH easier than buying a new computer for a second Apple ID.

Your solution is for Joe Shmo to use multiple mechanisms to get data into his new devices, mechanisms that might work for one android device and not the other, mechanisms he may or may not be aware of. This is clearly an android user experience deficiency.

You don't need to use multiple mechanisms. You can choose whichever one fits you better. Even to the point where you hate all of them, and write one yourself.

Drag-and-drop is built into every single OS and Android phone I've ever seen. Windows media player seamlessly sync playlists, podcasts, movies, and music into ANY media. Android phones included.

Can I use iTunes to sync my music, documents, movies, contacts, email, DVD rips, and every other item you bring up here to EVERY device I own, without a problem? Last I checked, no. And, last I checked if iTunes doesn't really work well for you, you have no options.

And to sync photos, music, and videos, most android users end up in these forums looking for a mechanism.

Really? I don't think I've seen a single thread asking for that. Most computer users I know actually know how to copy files.

there 350 referbs not new...399 new ...might wana know what your talking about before you say it.

Anyone know if/how well an iPad/iPad2 streams high-profile 720p videos? Do they have to be transcoded with serviio or tversity before they'll try to play them or can they play straight off a NAS server? I realize that their 1024x768 panels can't display true HD, but we already know that the XOOM sh!ts the bed when put to the test, despite having a panel big enough to fit all the pixels.

I'd settle for an XGA panel (iPad1/2) that downsizes the source content slightly vs. a WXGA panel (XOOM) that vomits when you try to play real HD content.

I love how the typical response is "just wait" for the missing features on the xoom that was rushed to market or that lack of apps for it.

BTW the original ipad had 2000 apps ready for it that day it launched.

There are a lot more apps that work than you might think. And because the openess and the community, other stuff works quickly. And flash is here in 3 weeks, 4g with no change in date plan.

The evil empire known as Apple and the pad didn't have multitask or folders for 7 months. And was promised direct printin g but only with a new HP e printer. Yeah they were perfect ;)

I asked for 300 without the case when he saw it he asked how much more for the case I said 50 more. I still had the receipt for 60 which I could still take back so he gave me 350 pretty nice. Im happy no more iso for me...shoulda learned with my iphone 2 years ago.

I never said they were perfect. But all the hardware features promised worked from day 1.

It seems some people are basing their option on which tablet is better, based on features that one of them doesn't have yet, but will real soon.

For the record I don't think there is a best tablet. Different things for different people.

There was no promise of 4g from the start. Or flash. And you say you don't think there iS a best tablet yet you list neg. from the Xoom, even misguided but don't list neg. from the pad.

The difference between the two, the pad is a wysiwyg -- basic. The Xoom is potential. So more more you can do with it. Its not even an argument.

going to a verizon store to check out the xoom tomorrow! really leaning towards purchasing one over an ipad 2. the only thing that worries me is the current lack of apps.

Question. Mobile gaming.

Will the xoom be getting nice apps, RPGs, shooters and the sort as the iPad does right now?
Right now it's limited with the good gaming apps, afaik.

If I could gave some proof of devs going the android way i'll buy my xoom tomorrow.

Edit: will android be known for mobile gaming in the year 2011 or 2012

Edit 2: no best buys have a xoom near me so I won't buy it tomorrow....

My answer would be an educated yes quess :-) about gaming apps, not the 'mobile gaming of 11-12. Who wants to be known as that, a desktop is good for that.

True :-) but I want the Xoom to be made for more than just games. The point I was trying to make.

No doubt indeed, as do I, but I still like to game on my downtime and when I game, sometimes I don't want a game like angry birds, bejeweled or e sort, sometimes I want a nice shooter, nova or cod zombies, or RPGs like chaos rings and dungeon hunter 2 hd. All four are on iPad or iPod, which is why id like to know if such comparable items will be out for android in the future.

I would love to have a device I can start using for my job and have functionality in at department, spreadsheets, word documents and some minimal design elements, graphically.

Internet, phone (skype) and flash (soon enough) are fantastic, but I want something that will be used in all spectrums posted, not just two of the three,
you know?

That's why I want to know about the gaming part as well.

Edit

I've done some research on my own and the only real thing I've seen about gaming on these is the tegra zone which doesnt have much but what was talked about...

I'm not missing any apps. Does everything I need.

In fact I'm hoping there are a few holes I can fill with custom apps. :p

Costco has a better deal anyway - rebate on activation.
