Iphone 3gs vs Incredible (Battery Test)

I can confirm there is something wrong with the battery gauge between 100% to 93%. You can actually sit there and watch as it drops to 93%

Looks like a software issue and should be fixed via update.

good luck waiting for a software update. The eris had the same issue and was never fixed.

meh, no need for the rancor.

it does appear that the Iphone 3Gs battery is a lot, lot better.

offical spec sheets for each company show standby time for the iphone is 2x that of the Incredible. 146 vs 300 hours.

anecdotal evidence begins to suggest that that is true for lots of tasks - Iphone battery is 2x as good. tonight I will try to run video on it until it dies, starting at 100%. my guess is that it will die in 3 hours or so, which is worse than half of the iphone I had

What's interesting is they are identical in terms of talk time. 300 mins

Thank you. HTC has been notoriously slow fixing bugs like this. But apparent no one can complain because thats not allowed
Who is saying you can't complain it's bitching we don't like, like saying OMG this phone sux!?!?!!the Iphone is so much better?!?!
There has been many threads stating problems so your not special

haha really? show me my post when I said that? I said HTC was slow at updates. 2.1 anyone? Honestly, shut up

The Eris is an outdate discontinued phone. HTC and Verizon can careless about it which is why you are not getting anymore updates.

Actually Eris users, myself being one, waited 8 months for 2.1 to have to delayed and delayed. Its still being pushed to the phone. And so what, the INC will be outdated in 6 months. Should we not expect updates then either?

Thats all great, but when it wasn't a outdated phone it only got two minor updates.

As soon as they release 2.2, you won't be seeing it for a long while unless you root. Looks how many phones are still waiting for the 2.1 upgrade from HTC's orignal Eris and Hero's.

Google trying to fix that with the famed 3.0

I do not have this issue of the Incredible going down quickly from 100% to 93%. This sometimes takes hours for me depending on use. I'm very happy with battery time on my Incredible.

So far no one has even mentioned the CDMA vs GSM battery usage issue. It is very well known that GSM network phones use far less battery than CDMA network phones just b/c of the nature of the technologies.

Hypothetical Example: Let's say that AT&T made an identical Droid Incredible for the AT&T network. You could take a VZW Inc and an AT&T Inc and run then side by side in an area that was known to have equal VZW and AT&T signal strength. With identical settings, the AT&T Incredible would easily outlast the Droid Incredible due to the network phone technology.

In an ideal world you'd be able to say "ceteris paribus, the iPhone will outlast the Droid". Unfortunately, this isn't a perfect world, and inferring that all else is constant is simply ridiculous when trying to compare the iPhone and the Droid. There are VAST differences between the two phones and their networks: each have their strengths and weaknesses.

All that said, it is likely that, on average, the iPhone will last longer than the Incredible. The most likely explanation for the difference is the GSM vs CDMA network, the more powerful hardware in the Incredible and Android's ability to multitask. I can't comment on the battery capacity on the iPhone, but I doubt the actual capacity is much greater than the Incredible's.

That's interesting. I wonder if there was just a bad batch of phones...

I just got a new HTC inc in the mail from VZW. I'm going to try the new battery in my old phone, and then if that doesn't work, I'm going to try the new battery with the new phone. If neither work, I'm returning the phone until the issue is fixed. Not worth using my new every two.

How many more kittens need to die before we quit talking about this non-issue. Please for the love of kittens, STOP IT!

5 hours 20 minutes up time from when I unplugged my Inc this morning and turned it on, battery is at 84%. Took a few calls, browsed the net for 5-10 minutes, played a couple youtube videos, and messed around with a couple apps briefly. I do normally shutoff wi-fi if I'm not using it (simple via the taskpanel widget) and I also have the 'always receive mobile data' option disabled. I've still be getting emails etc just fine, but now that I think of it I will email my gmail account, leave my phone in idle(aka locked/dark screen) and see how long before the phone gets it.

Maybe its talked about so much because it is an issue? Maybe just not one for you.

Thanks for your contribution to the thread, though.

Right, it's a non-issue. That's why half the posts on this board are about it. Maybe it's a non-issue for you and a select few, but it's a big issue for the rest of us.

Say whatever you want to say, but the Incredible runs multiple apps and services in the background. Also, I read somewhere, I think on the battery conditioning in the tips and tricks, that that last ten percent of battery takes longer to actually charge to full, even if it reads full, it isn't. That could account for it going from 100% to 90% in that short of time. As far as the iPhone goes, I used to own one myself. It only runs one app at a time, and with the incredible running multiple, and only have a 1300mah battery, it's going to go down a bit faster then something running one app at a time, and the battery is 1400mah. Not a big difference, but if the phone could run multiple processes at once, it would probably have more of a drain itself.

My iphone is jailbroken and runs many programs at once. Yes, the battery is slightly stronger, but the battery lasts almosts twice as long as the incredible. Again, I don't know if I just have a bad INC - and the battery quality has obviously been hotly debated in this forum - but I just can't have a phone where you constantly have to be tethered to an outlet to ensure it doesn't die.
