Iphone 4 announced, I still rather the incredible

"and a new high resolution display that doubles the pixels in each direction (960 x 640) for a 4X overall pixel count increase -- Apple calls it a "Retina Display." It's rated at 326ppi, which Apple claims is beyond the human eye's limit of distinction."

*Facepalm* Why on earth you'd cram a pixel density that's imperceptable to the human eye in the same 3.5" when everyone else is releasing 3.7"-4.3" displays...well that's beyond me and just shows Apple is still following it's same old theme of wasting your money, kinda like wireless N that's only useful for large file transfers that are better accomplished via cable unless iTunes goes to wireless sync. I also don't like the big forehead on this phone compared to the old iphone. LOTS of wasted space. That means all the Apple fans that pick this up, well they're gonna be pissed when next year's model is 4". The long and short of it is that I'm perfectly happy with my purchase. I still think we'll be seeing 720p recording on the incredible through a software update after an initial exclusivity period with the EVO. It's the same camera. I'm wondering if there will be a proprietary HD out for this iphone? I still think that's a great feature of the EVO.

Isn't he just debating? He's not insulting anybody or trolling.

I'll answer with a question. ;)

Would you ever try to find an Apple forum and jump in to tell them your Incredible has double the battery life and a better camera?

I sure wouldn't. That's like walking into Chuck Norris without saying excuse me. Trouble.

Doesn't make it a reportable offense, just stupid.

Please stop trying to fight with everyone or you will be reported.

Last warning.

jamor, thank you for caring about this forum. For the record, I don't see fighting, here. I see debating. There are no insults and no one's being personal or rude. so...

Carry on.. debate away. Keep it clean and come out slugging. ;)

Excuse me for barging in on your forum but you guys have one of the better threads going on about the iPhone 4G.

I think that one of the key elements to Android gaining grounds on apple is Verizon themselves. Verizon is doing an excellent job of pushing Android with there commercials for both the droid and the Inc. If Verizon didn't have those commercials I think a lot less people would be enjoying android (just look at these forums, both the droid and inc have the most post around). I see a lot of people (mostly older folks) walking around my job with the droid and when I asked them why they picked that phone it's either because they saw the commercials or the service reps sold them on it. They have no idea the benefits it has over the iphone, they have no idea that people root these phones to unlock all sorts of fun stuff, and they probably are a bit over whelmed by how much the phone actually does. But now they own it and most of them are loving it (I try and guide them when needed) and they don't give the iPhone another thought. Verizon did a huge favor to android by not getting the iphone. Even though I own an N1 and live with At&t *ducks to escape the flying shoes* I still have to give credit to Verizon. The more people we get on board (hardcore or casual) the better off we are. So thanks guys for helping out!

Oh and I am an iPhone 3G convert....my 12 step plan was as follows:
1. Broke my iPhone 3G (20 months into my contract).
2. Went to iPhone store, genius people told me it would $200 to fix phone.
3. Slapped genius person and left iPhone store.
4. Realized that there might be another world outside the iPhone.
5. Look into blackberry, yawned.
6. Saw the N1 site, play around, decided that I needed to try android.
7. Purchased N1.
8. Waited anxiously for two days to get it.
9. Turned on the phone and started playing with it, received my first text messaged while surfing the net, flicked back and forth and discovered multitasking.
10. Figured out that I can change my wallpaper (20 months of a black wallpaper!) along with my launcher, my text app, my browser app, free navigation, and lots of free apps!
11. Decided I liked the Android community better.
12. Decided purchasing a phone off contract is awesome, I decide when I upgrade not my provider.

Sorry for the long post, slow afternoon. Go Joe! I mean droid!

How much better is this screen than the Incredible's from a technical standpoint? I know the resolution on the Incredible is only 800X480 but the screen is larger and its AMOLED ...

switched from iphone to eris due to dropped calls on ATT. after about 8 months i got iphone lust again and fired back up att on my old iphone on a month to month basis and the dropped calls were B - A -D.

The iphone is a great phone but if you want a phone that WORKS AS A PHONE IN THE US, you cannot buy an iphone. Lusting after it on AT&T is like lusting after Megan Fox or some other super model....there is no point....

Now if VZW gets the iphone....im there.

Nice to see Apple playing catch up. I had a look at the big features they touted at the release and none of them seem more compelling than the ones my Incredible (which should be fresh off the assembly line by now...slowly making its way to a FedEx box) offers.

Cameras - 5MP camera in the back - OK thats nice, nothing special. I've seen shots from both, and I think the Incredible takes better pictures. Plus you can focus on certain spots by touching the spot you want. Flash? Cool. I have 2. Front camera? You can use it for self portraits, but who wants a VGA size portrait of themselves? 13 year old girls have been turning cameras around and taking pictures of themselves for years. iMovie for iPhone? That would suck. I don't want to edit a movie on my phone. If I'm actually making something worth editing, I'll do it on my computer where i can see better and work faster. HD video? One of like three iPhone 4 features that I actually will miss on the Inc.

FaceTime - This doesn't seem desirable. You either have to hold the phone way up in front of your face, or the other person looks up your nostrils. Think about the way you hold your phone when you use it. If you're standing up, you're usually holding it by your belt buckle. Why would I want someone I'm video chatting to get the view my girlfriend gets of me when we're alone? I'd hold my arm up and that gets old quick (lazy? yes.). Plus that probably kills battery like nothing else. If I actually want to video chat, I'll want to be doing something else in the background. When I Skype people from my computer, I'm always looking at other stuff in the background. It's just like regular phone calls. When you can't work on something or look up something in the background during the call, it kinda blows.

"Retina Screen": Okay, that's cool. I don't think it'll be that noticible over the Incredible. I did some math, we've got about 250 pixels/inch. Sounds cool, but the "retina screen" isn't that much better that the Incredible's... nothing too special.

iBookstore - not interested. I don't read books anyway. Is anyone else getting sick of the iShit? iAds, iOS4, iBooks, iPod, iPad, iPhone, iMovie, iPhoto, iLife, iWork, iTunes, iMsickofstuffbeingnamedthisway. It was great for a while, when it was just the iPod and the iPhone, but now it's gone too far. Product names are cool. My phone is(will be eventually) called the Incredible. There's the Mustang. The Camaro. The Corvette. All of those names are better than iPhone. Like who would buy an iCar?

Multitasking? I like the implementation better, with the dock you can switch apps from, but this almost levels the playing field with Android. It's not quite as good because only certain apps can run in the background.

Home Screen - Oh boy, wallpapers and folders. We've had that for a while, along with widgets and live wallpapers.

Search - Not as good (I don't think?). I know the search button on the Incredible will search Google, but will it also search the phone? That would be a nice feature.

Battery - Apple claims that it lasts a really long time, but Apple's claims are always BS. Plus, the Incredible can probably match the real life performance of the iPhone with an extended battery. And then you can swap batteries and keep on going.

Maps & Compass - Free navigation on the Incredible. Enough said.

Processor - Advantage Incredible.

2 Mics - This could help. I feel like it wouldn't do much for me, because I usually have a hat on, and my hair is down to my ears and it's pretty thick. Plus, what if it's windy and that mic picks up wind interference? I don't want it to try to cancel the sound from that. I've never had a problem hearing people on the phone before, so I don't think this is necessary. If you're somewhere that you actually can't hear the person you're talking to, you're probably not in an appropriate place to make a call. And noise cancellation won't help at a concert. What would be better is cancellation of ambient noise around you for the sounds you transmit, so people won't be able to hear it if you're driving or something. From what i've read, it doesn't appear that the iPhone does this.

Design - The only thing I prefer about the iPhone's design is its dedicated silent mode button. But I really hate the whole way that the iPhone OS handles sound anyway - ringer volume and music volume should be separate. You don't need that many steps for ringer volume, and you usually want the ringer to be at least as loud as the music you're playing. Anyway, design. The new iPhone is ugly. I don't like the completely flat back, or the stainless band that goes around the phone. The buttons look stupid now too. Same with the white face. There'll be at least a 10:1 ratio of black to white iPhones sold. But the whole phone looks kinda stupid. Also, it's 2mm thinner than the Incredible. It's also about two mm thicker than my iTouch. I don't like the iTouch without a case because it feels TOO thin. Just my personal preference I guess.

The Apps argument for the iPhone is dying slowly. It has more apps than Android, but I can't find something that there is no app for on Android, but one for the iPhone. Just because the Android Marketplace doesn't have 200 different bowling applications doesn't mean it's worse. I do wish Google would moderate the apps.

And wow that was long. Just kinda kept going maybe some of you will actually read this haha. Just my thoughts after reading the WWDC notes.
I love my incredible ! But the iPhone blows away our phones when it comes to APPS, I'm sorry, i'm totally an Android fan! and I really want it to be a better OS than that of the iphones but its simply not there aesthetically. Our apps are good and usually will achieve the same things that the iphones apps are capable of but it's in how they achieve it were the major difference is. Their apps are more aesthetically pleasing and usually function without hiccup and as far as not ever having a problem finding a comparable app on our market..... How about (Photofunia) I can't seem to find anything as clever as their app but maybe I've missed it ... and this is usually the case ... it is nice to see Apple playing catch up for once but we still have a ways to go and I'm totally on board with Android and would never switch to such a proprietary carrier but gotta give credit where credit is due

When the iphone first came out it only had so much functionality. It took some time to get to where they are today. Android may lack in size and their may be a couple gaps but the development will not stop and quality apps will break into the market, and I highly doubt that Apple Developers are all about exclusivity. Once they see that market share keep rising, they are going to be porting their apps over to the android community. Lets not forget Verizon has the largest community of cellphone users and the way Verizon is pushing this market there will be some coin to collect.

there is only one thing I miss about my iPhone and that is the games. There are a ton more great games on the iPhone. I imagine that will change as Android gains in popularity. Hopefully some of the big companies will see this and start developing on the android too.

Did anyone see the news story?
The phone wouldn't connect during the launch and I was in tears laughing till I realized it was the WiFi that didn't connect...

How perfect would it have been if they were on 3G on AT&T and they had no signal...

The phone looks nice and they added a couple of nice things to the phone but I wouldn't trade it for my Dinc, the only two things this has is the 720p video recording and a vga front facing camera that it only works from iphone to iphone.

Conclusion, my Dinc is better, just wait and see when this baby gets root and 2.2.

What hangs the iPhone 4 for me is that everything is sand-boxed. If I have a iPhone I can't access the file system. Extremely limiting. It makes the user jump though hoops to do tasks that are simple on a Android phone. Everything on the Android plays nice together in one huge sandbox. On the iPhone, each app has it's own sandbox.

I like keeping it real, and the iPhone 4 just sqaushed every Droid and every other smartphone. That being said, AT&T is a nonstarter for me and has sunk near the bottom of customer satisfaction surveys.

Like many of you, I've gotten tired of Apple fanboys but have gotten equally tired 0f anti-Apple fanboys.

I like my Inc and I don't plan to switch, but Apple makes great hardware.

Totally agree with you.. Though i'm hating on there netflix app but I read the engadget article that stated that netflix hired a couple Android devs, so ill be patient for now ;)

Amen!

Check out Full coverage at Engadget.com

From what I read it sports 5mp camera, plus a front facing camera.

still no widgets. No 8mp Cam...

Honestly its a nice phone but doesn't blow inc out of the water by any means. Especially when we get froyo.

thats crazy cuz i was JUST saying that ;; my incredible is SO MUCH BETTER to me than the iphone 4 && i had really planned on getting the iphone 4 when it came out before i got the incredible... the incredible is definitely better than the iphone ... DEFINITELY

Dude! For Real ? I totally love my incredible but come on man! as far as saying that the Incredible is "DEFINITELY" better than the iPhone is a little early dont you think? No one even owns one yet... Spec for spec it's a pretty great phone and apple has never disappointed in the past!! The iPad was supposed to be one big disappointment "Just A Big iPhone" but its sales and customer satisfaction tells a different tale ... I for one will keep my criticism a little more constructive and factual
:)
