Iphone 4 announced, I still rather the incredible

After looking at the incredible and purchasing one, the only down side to it is that it hasn't arrived yet.

I'm not going to say the incredible is drastically better than the iphone. Its all personal preference. Iphones interface doesn't hit home with me anymore. I used to think it was cool until i found android.

Now it really does seem like the iphone is marketed to kids in middle school to maybe sophomore year of college. I think the target audience is the people who want the iphone as a status symbol.

I am different however. I do not want my phone to replace my computer and my xbox and my camera(that i don't have) or anything else you can think of. I want my phone to be primarily a phone. Fun and extras second.

Also it doesn't look like apple is bringing much that is functional to the table. 720p video cool, i don't want to shoot hd video with a phone, because it will be terrible looking. A high res display, that's all well and good but nothing that shouts I'm 'incredible'.

It seems that apple believes they have a steady customer base of people who like 'idiot proof devices' as i call them. People who never learned or never cared to learn how a computer works, they don't want huge customization options and menus with settings upon settings, because they cant figure those out.

Sooner or later people are going to lose interest, and if they are truly into buying the best device then not only android phones but other smartphones from all companies will start to outshine the apple iphone. That's its one weakness, its At&t's only selling point right now in the smartphone industry. I beleive that most people that use their phone for business get it through verizon probably with a discount from that company. Verizon is reliable, has an outstanding lineup of phones and more coming in the next few weeks.

Sorry for this being so long.
Needed to get my opinion out there.

i also wonder how much memory hd video will take and dont forget no expandable memory

I dislike Apples walled garden and that is why I would never own an apple product. Their user interface feels like a step up from Fisher Price. I like freedom and the option to do what ever I want with whatever I buy. With the iPhone i see limited potential with a 1 year update cycle. If you don't like XYZ wait a year and hope for a fix. Android's unlimited potential is the biggest turn on for me. An app can be created and downloaded at any time without Big Brother blessing or skimming off the top.

I will say that the new iphone hardware is sexy looking. Screen should be bigger but I like the look overall. I dig the boxy brushed stainless steel look.

My dislikes:
Front facing camera? Worthless IMO. I have 3 laptops and a desktop if I want to video chat but I don't care for people seeing me so video-chat is out.

Video editing from the phone? I barely like doing it from a desktop.

Selective multitasking? Really? Why even bother if you are not going to allow multitasking for everything.

Non-removable battery. Wow they just don't get it do they? : palm_to_face:

AT&T. Don't really need to go any further.

to killalllamas. It takes a lot. I will give an example, one episode of Planet Earth, in 720p HD is a 2.16 GB file. Now given this is an hour long video give or take, thats fairly big. But if you break it down into i don't know 10, 6 minute videos, theres your 2.16 gb, maybe more maybe less depending on if it is a compressed format at all. Its definitly something to be weary of, especially if you want to put music and movies on your phone, not sure i assume it will have like 16gb or 32 which seems like a lot but for an ipod/phone i could use 32 gigs filled with music in a snap.

From what I read it sports 5mp camera, plus a front facing camera.
still no widgets. No 8mp Cam...
Honest

Are you serious? I am thinking about returning my Droid Incredible for the Motorola Shadow. The iPhone 4 blows away our Droid Incredible.
I got a DINC on launch day.

1) It has a 326PPI screen that matches and exceed a printed magazine. It is going to have a better screen.
2) 8 Megapixel means squat on the DINC. my 5MP Motorola Backflip takes better picts than the DINC. More megapixel doesn't mean better.
On the flip-side
3) IPhone plays and records H.264 720p/30fps straight out of the box. This right here out-does the Sprint EVO4G (20fps/mpeg/3gp). Our DINC barely plays WVGA H.264 movies. I don't expect HTC to pony up money for a decent video player (when our hardware obviously supports it).

You can use the iPhone movie file in any pro video editing software. Expect music videos done on Iphone to be plastered all over VIMEO. You know some art film maker is gonna make a full length movie just so he said he did it on an iPhone. Browse VIMEO and see how many "made on iPhone" video exists; fully polished and edited

It will be a match between the new iPhone, Motorola and new Samsung.

First off, let's count samsung out. They make terrible smartphones.(I should know =( )

I believe the evo is 26fps, correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't that industry standard?

And as others pointed out, your missing KEY features here.

1.) True multitasking. Not selective multitasking that apple approves.

2.) We can send and receive phone calls, reliably.

3.) Network. Both vzw and sprint greatly surpass the at$t network.

4.) I can wifi tether.

5.) I can replace the home screen, ui, anything I like. The way I want it. Try that on an iphone.

6.) Widgets. I get facebook streams, my media streams, etc, all at the convienence of my homescreen.

7.) Rooting won't kill you warranty, and google won't kill your phone for doing so. (Like apple does with jailbreaking)

8.) Apple can uninstall an app from your iphone remotely. Google cant /won't.

9.) If I want to test an app I wrote, I can. Without submitting it for approval.

10.) If I want to distribute an app outside of market, I'm allowed to do so.

11.) Android is more developer friendly, which is already leading to a better choice of apps for android.

Not to mention other extras as expandable swappable memory & battiers. And not having to worry about connecting my phone to itunes or using overpriced proprietary cables.

Evo & inc > iphone4

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

Front camera, screen, antenna bezel, hd video, rooted already, and it comes in WHITE... I hella want.

ATT... not an option!

The specs of the phone don't matter one bit to me as long as they stay with that lame OS. It's time for a change after 4 years...multitasking doesn't change the user interface enough. The high resolution doesn't matter to me much either, I prefer a larger screen like the one on the EVO. I'm surprised Apple decided to stay with their smallish sized screen.

The iPhone looks pretty good but not as game changing as the original. However, am I the only one who thinks iAd is the worst thing ever? I would much rather pay a small fee for every app than have stupid ads all over my phone!!! 3 pages and I didn't see one person mention it......

The new screen on the iPhone 4 sounds very impressive--probably better than the Incredible's. The other new features are kinda meh, though.

Apple produces one phone a year. They would isolate a large part of their user base if they did that. If someone doesn't like the size of the EVO, they can get some other Android phone. Wouldn't make much business sense for Apple.

Everything done with this new iPhone has already been done on an Android platform. Multitasking, folders, combined inbox, front facing camera(Evo). So why is everyone fooled by Steve Jobs into thinking this is all new. Apple is just catching up. That's all. I just hope that this doesn't slow down the development of Android apps. Don't get me wrong the phone looks good but I hate how people fall for Apples marketing ploy so easy.

Apple does things with tremendous polish, and this new iPhone looks great to me. Not revolutionary, but a very nice upgrade from 3GS. I'm not tempted from my Incredible because I want my widgets, system-wide voice transcription, Google Voice, free GPS, Swype, Flash (lite), text reflow, cloud backup, cloud podcast sync, etc etc. Still, a nice offering from Apple.

Ya know, at this point, i don't know what the **** would be revoluationary anymore to these hard to please consumers. I was an original iPhone user (3gs too) and i, like everyone else, had this big ass checklist that went on for pages with features i never thought would even come. Copy paste, tethering, mms, stereo bluetooth, front facing camera, hd recording, multitasking. Pretty much everything i can even think of has been crossed off the list, so really...what "revolutionary" crap are we expecting them to put in a cell phone?

Customer one year: psh. There's not even a front facing camera!
Customer next year: Okay. Wow. A front facing camera. Phones have had that for years. Pshhhhhhh. Nothing revolutionary

I'm a soon to be incredible user, but i'm also a fan of technology as a whole and the new iPhone looks amazing. Apple created their own processor. They even created their own glass that's 30 times stronger than plastic to use on a screen that's the most vibrant/high resolution of any smartphone on the planet. And ya know how every phone is measured against the 3gs' thinness for aesthetics? Yeah. They actually made one of the thinnest phones even thinner. I also liked that instead of focusing on more fake megapixels on top of megapixels, they focused on getting the right lens/optics to work with the software with the "back illuminated yada yada" technology

Really. What else is there? I've got 2 things on my list left and that's it: it's not on verizon and it doesn't have a user replaceable battery.

Were people expecting steve jobs to blow magic up their asses during a conference about a CELL PHONE? Watching customers ask for features and then Apple gives it, and customers yawn at the features they ask for is sickening. Really. The psychology around this seems like people that already don't like the iPhone are trying to fool themselves into "well, if it had this it'd be for me", when in reality you just don't want the iPhone.

Can someone chime in and tell me what all these people were expecting that left them so butthurt after the keynote? Something...non att related.

I like libertarianism over socialism. I like to fend for myself, not let some moron shelter me, and then charge me big bucks for it. That extends to my choice of phones.

The best new feature is the screen which has 326 pixels per inch (ppi). The human eye reaches a limit at 300 pixes per inch. It simply can't see more than that. The original iphone 3gs is only 163ppi. So when they compared these two at their presentation it looked drastically improved.

Incredible has 252 ppi which isn't that far from the human limit.

The display on the iPhone 4 is very, very nice. It's unlikely that another consumer device will have such a technically superb display this calendar year. To discount the display is to proclaim your fanboyism. I'm happy with the AMOLED screen on the Incredible, except when I'm in natural sunlight. But that iPhone display is stunning.

As for the other features, meh. Not too interested in a closed platform.

I think thats why they dropped the G from Iphone 4G.

To not confuse people of it being able to run on 4g they simply named it the Iphone 4.

I can. Many people don't like Steve Jobs, Apple, authoritarianism, hypocrisy, and years of Apple Fanboys whipping out their iPhones at the most awkward moment to presumably get something REALLY REALLY important done, when they were really just saying "Look at me! I've EVOLVED!".

Now, that being said, if people like the iPhone, that's great. I have zero issues with that. Happy people are more fun to be around, so let them be happy. Just don't shove the darn thing in my face and act like it makes you elite, or that you're more sophisticated, more hip, more intelligent, or more wealthy. You're not. If I wanted the darn thing, I would have gone out and bought it. I didn't want one, so I didn't buy one.

The hardware on the iPhone looks great but I prefer the Android OS on the Incredible, it has better Internet support. Still, Microsoft better pull a rabbit out of their ass or they're the ones who are in big trouble.

fanboys on every page you go to. Lots of Android fanboys here. Lots of Apple ones on the Apple boards. Lots of Blackberry ones on their forums. Gets kind of old listening to people find ways to find flaws in products they don't own, or have ever used for that matter.

Let's get one thing straight. Modifying an already existing processor doesn't mean you designed the processor itself
