iPhone runs more smoothly on slower processor than Desire has, why?

I have been using my Desire for 7 months now and during this time I did get chances to use iPhone, BB and Palm Pre. After using all of these I have a question:

1- Despite Desire has 1GHz (or if we say Android runs on 1GHz), why is it so that iPhone 3GS runs more smoothly on 600MHz processor? and Android is NOT THAT SMOOTH on even 1GHz?

Sounds like a baited question, however I'll attempt to answer that with an unbiased reply - it's simply a matter of an OS that is not optimized for the phone. With iPhone, each OS and phone hardware is optimized to work together exclusively. Apple does not have to deal with any hardware other than the device they designed, developed, and marketed. It's an all-in-one concept.

With Android the hardware is quite varied and different, yet the OS is based on a general set of code with some optimizations. So yes, Android may not be quite as smooth, but that's the trade off for having an open operating system and varied hardware, with a much more diverse software base, customization, and features. Android is further ahead than iPhone due to diversification, even though Android is younger than iPhone.

It's like Windows and PC computers, it's all varied. MAC has many advantages with integration, but the price often offsets that, which is why the PC sells better overall. With Apple devices you use what Apple says to use. With PC/Android devices you use whatever you want.

Overall I prefer Android and PC devices for the flexibility and choices involved. I generally don't dislike Apple/iPhone hardware (the iPhone is an amazing idea), it's just they limit your personal choices and I don't like that.

Same here. Most of the people i know with smart phones have an iPhone so I've been able to compare my desire to various models of the iPhone. It runs just as smoothly and sometimes quicker than any of the iPhones.

PS It also works when I answer a call with my left hand without needing a case around it :p

OK, let's be non-avenger about this...the iPhone 4 is a great device, when it works as needed...cases non-gratis.

I agree. The iPhone is a good device. However I can't help but laugh when they miss such a basic design fault.
 
If you rate smoothness as being similar/same as speed, in my experience my HTC Desire constantly loads web pages faster than my brother's iPhone 3GS using the same telcom network. The iPhone seems to have a better gyroscope though, as it turns from portrait to landscape view (and vice-versa) faster than the Desire.
 
i like iphone4, its a very nice device and i could see myself with one. however i prefer desire and i knew if i had of got one i would have been "what if i had chosen a desire"
i dont get what ifs about if i had chosen a iphone.
 
Even better still

Jailbreak the iPhone and run android as a dual boot device.

Having had the 3GS I would say there is alot more going on with the Desire at any one time.

That said mine also runs as smooth as fk
 
smoothness as in app opening and closing transition, scrolling, etc? i noticed this too. that's the downside of using live wallpaper i guess. but once you start using an app, no slowness whatsoever.

try using iphone 2G, jailbroken with any winterboard theme loaded. still smooth but by the time the phone responds to anything you do, a new iphone will have been announced
 
I love my Desire and if there is one thing that really bugs me about it that would be the same thing that bugs you. After lots of digging I found this:

It has to be a combination of iOS optimization (there are only 3 iPhones out there) and GPU utilization.
It always bugs me how responsive iPhone is when Panning on an image whereas on a stock Desire there is always a slight delay in spite of the faster processor. And I have used several Gallery applications on my Desire- its always the same.
If you were talking about more general things than that- sorry I can not help.
