Help iPhone --> S3 iMessage Bug

Haha sounds like apple is trying to sabotage anyone who leaves them lol.

Seriously. This is a ridiculous issue and is one of the primary reasons for my growing hate of apple. Still use an iPad, Mac, and iPhone but am starting to get real frustrated. Want an android. Do not want text message issues.

I went to the apple website, logged in with my apple ID, and unregistered my device. I was able to send and receive text messages in all situations except for one:
If I sent a group message to other iphone users who were set up to use iMessage, my message to them would appear in their group thread, and they could see their responses in the group thread, but I personally did not receive any of their responses. Their responses were sent as iMessages and I didn't get them.
Some have said that Handcent and/or Go SMS can bypass this by at least allowing you to receive their responses as MMS messages....but I have not been able to get that to work despite double checking all of the settings.

That sounds promising. Did you have to have any iMessage users toggle off/on their Imessage and delete the prior threads they had with you? Because that's just not an option for me.. Too mant texts with people going on for me to contact everyone and have them go thru a process. I want it to b seamless for them

Thanks for your help

I didn't ask them to disable iMessage cause I didn't wanna impose. But because of that, I was unable to group message any further with them and that sucks. I can one-on-one text them, or group message non-iMessage friends, but screwed as far as the iMessage groups go.

So I'm switching to the s3 soon and I looked at my apple support website and my iphone isnt even listed there...should I register it and then unregister it before i switch to android or would that just be useless.

This seems like a really annoying issue that apple should fix.

All's I did was turn off i message on my iPhone. of that doesn't work also go to apple website and unregister your iPhone.

I've read that that's exactly hat you should do. Register your iPhone, turn off I messaging then unregistered your device on the support site.

Hmmm..I was under the assumption that imessaging group message would only work with other users of iMessage. Maybe it's not a bug you're experiencing?

Hi

Sorry if this has already been covered but have had a quick look through without success.

I have recently changed from an iPhone to Samsung Galaxy s3. I have been receiving most messages through on the s3 without problems however some are still coming through on the iPhone only despite the phone no longer being registered. I have a feeling that this is to do with the i message setting on the iPhone. I personally Have de activated the wireless on the iPhone and I seem to be ok... (although people may be texting me still and I'm not getting the message)

My friend however who got the phone at the same time is having problems. She has now got rid of the iPhone but is still having problems of not receiving some messages and I'm assuming these are still going though to the old phone. It seems to be only affecting messages from iPhones and when people are using an old message to reply to instead of starting a new message.

Sorry for the long winded post but I'm really hoping someone can help us please?

Many Thanks in advance :-)

Your probably only receiving messages on the iPhone from people who use iMessage. try completely disabling it on your iphone. I have heard of this quite a few times and iMessage is always the culprit.

We have already got rid of our iPhones... I think I'm ok as I disabled the wifi before but my friend hasn't :-( Is there a way round this? Any help will be appreciated

I have the same problem. Their iPhones have hijacked my number so I can only receive via I message. Anything I can do to stop this?

Is anyone who came from an Iphone to the S3 now having trouble getting text messages from iphone users. I can text my wife and others who have the iphone but their responses wont come back to me. the only way I could get their texts is if the turned off Imessage on their phones. I hate to ask all of my Iphone friends to turn off Imessage permanently. It seems all their phones are still associating me as an Imessage user. any thoughts or suggestions

Hello.

I've just read thread and my number has never been used on an iPhone and the Samsung S3 still won't accept iMessages.

After googling it looks like iMessage is for iPhone users and is the default text mode for IOS5

As an iPhone user I didn't know this until I almost missed an appointment and decided to ring to find out why there was no response to my iMessage (I did't realise it was differentfrom a text then) and then whilst waiting I searched on line and realised.

I've worked out how to send iMessage as text however am not sure all iPhone users are aware of this problem.

It's actually very simple... Before switching to the GS3, go into settings->messages and turn iMessage off. If you've already switched, connect your old iPhone to wifi and do the same thing I mentioned above.

I ran into this when I went from the iPhone 4 to an Atrix 2. This time around, I remembered to turn off iMessage before going from my 4S to the GS3 and have had no issues from day 1. Apple likes to assume you will never leave their product so they don't feel they need to make this easy on you if you do switch.

If I've already unlocked (via AT&T) and restored my iPhone (also destroyed the sim that was in it), do I need to move the sim from my S3 to the iPhone to do these things?

Or can I just turn on the iPhone, register it, undo iMessage, then unregister it?

You should be able to just turn on your iPhone without the sim in it, throw it on WiFi and then turn off iMessage.

This sort of issue is exactly why I moved over to android, much more open! that said I do still have my iphone, I am experiencing this issue but am frustrated as these wifi services are available on ipad and ipod touch using an email address instead of phone number.
Isn't there any way to re-register the device to an email address rather than mobile number. This would resolve the issue and mean I could carry on using some of apple's services (imessaging & facetime) - surely its in their interest to let people do this!?

everyone should escalate this with their service providers and kick off as its not acceptable that apple hinder normal phone use if you no longer utilise their service
it shouldnt be on number and its odd that basically they have a shoe in with the esp to intercept messages in that way rather than sending a message in their own format when they realise its imessage (like whatsapp does)
whatsapp is associated to the number but it doesnt prevent sms so why does imessage?

From the sound of things I must be very lucky. I like many of you have changed from an iphone 4s to an SIII, my wife and my daughter both have iPhones and I have absolutely no problem sending or receiving texts from either of them.
