iPhone vs Desire comparisons... always the same!

It seems most gadget / tech mags have a new smartphone vs smartphone feature every month and I always have a read up on them when I see them on the cover.

I was flicking through a mag today (forget which one) in Tesco after seeing a Desire Vs iPhone feature.

And what a surprise, despite both gaining the same score and an equal footing in the pros and cons, the iPhone was declared the winner. And it's like this in virtually every magazine I've read with an article like this!

There is some serious Apple bias in these mags and as a lot of people rely on them to make decisions about what tech and gadgets to buy, is it any wonder the iphone is such a giant in the world of smart phones? It's annoying that the iPhone isn't any better (and some cases much worse) than other phones out on the market today, yet seemingly, just because it's an iphone, it trumps them all according to most of the respected tech and gadget publications.

Very annoying!

I go for an iPhone. I am using it ever since I had my first iPhone gadget. :D

Android phones are everywhere. the average buyer doesn't even know he's buying an Android phone. It's a phone. It's a smartphone. But for the vast majority of users it's a phone. It's a bit different with the iPhone. Buyers buy into the whole deal. Tech writers are a breed apart, I work with them. They have their favourites and they have companies and products they have some kind of grudge against. This is all reflected in how they review anything, though they deny it. In the end, the iPhone is a brilliant device and so is the Desire, and any number of other Android phones. Where does it stop? There are so many. Who cares what tech writers have to say? Do your own reviews and go by your own conclusions. That works for me.

Surely comparisons are redundant? Ultimately the thing judged the best will be the one that sells - and that will always be the one that is advertised in such a way as to appeal to the masses. Most people do not think about the purchase they are making, rather they go for the device they heard about from a friend or saw while watching X Factor the night before.

Thus, effectively, the iPhone will always be judged the better device by the general public? Not because it is or is not, but more because it is more visible in a crowded marketplace.

For myself, I read every review going of pretty much every smartphone and otherwise to decide which one to get. Thus I am happy with my purchase. I understand technology, but do not get too caught up in it - I buy what is best for me at the time. I accept the iPhone does some things better or worse, but ultimately I made an informed choice. Others will choose the device they know about, which in the majority of cases will be the iPhone or some Samsung variety since they also appear to have a marketing budget.

If you want a device to be judged best, then it needs to be visible to the masses, and currently this does not happen for HTC.

The bottom line is iPhone4 is a very good phone, the Desire is also a very good phone (and in my opinion better). The only difference being the iPhone is very simple to use, simple enough that my mum would cope with it however that comes with its downfalls as well...

Being simple means that it is very limited to the stuff you can do and for all of us semi-tech savvy lot it puts it behind the Desire

I like the iPhone a lot. I've owned many over the past three years. Without the iPhone there would be no Android, no Blackberry Torch, and certainly no Windows 7. What we would have is Nokia S60 and pathetic Windows 6.5. That having been said, I prefer Android. The overall user experience is better for me, and I won't take my cues from tech reviewers. I do read the reviews and I think the press on Android and especially the Desire has been good. To me the Desire, or any high end Android phone is better for me than the iPhone at this stage of the game.

The fact that the Desire is even compared with the Iphone 4 just shows how much the Iphone 4 failed to create the revolution Mr Jobs promised.

The Desire has been out considerably longer and still in many ways a better phone.

Then when you factor in cost the Iphone 4 becomes a rip off.
