IPhone, will you switch?

If they did this last year, then yeah I probably would have considered it but there are a bunch of new Android phones coming out that I think is better than the Iphone 4 (IMO). Also, I'm sure an updated version of the Iphone will come out in the next few months so the one coming this February is not worth it.

You realize that the Droid is notoriously riddled with bad design. It's because Motorola sucks. I'm jumping to HTC Android phones and staying there from now on.

I have the displeasure of owning an iPod Touch. Now can I call it a baby's toy?

i used to want one so bad but now that I've been using the Droid for a few months i just have no interest in getting an iPhone, not to mention they cant multitask, they dont have widgets and i already have an itouch. I just want a better Droid when i can :)
 
Actually they do multi-task. I can chose the last 6 apps on my BRAVO. On my 4th Gen iPod Touch, I can move back and forth between dozens of apps.
 
I owned every iPhone starting with the 2G up to the 3GS. I've since owned a Moto Droid, a Droid Incredible, and a X. All have been better experience wise and although I occasionally felt the burn of missing out on an app, I have nothing but good things to say about Android. Also, why would I buy a 3G iPhone 4 on VZW, when I could just get a phone like an HTC Thunderbolt or a Motorola DROID Bionic?

Oh cool, you mean you won't address my comments with your high-and-mighty attitude anymore? You're right, that feature IS useful!

Get over it, the fact is that I see small children (probably around 6 or 7) with iPod Touches all the time. iOS was designed to be fundamental and easy to understand. Android is designed to let you do what you want. Just saying, one of them sounds more like elementary school and one of them sounds more like college.
 
No way would I go to an iPhone after using Android. That's like going from a Suburban to a Miata. The Miata may look sleeker, but there's just so much more you can do with a Suburban. iOS is just too locked down; I like to customize my phone to make it actually feel like MY phone, not what Steve Jobs wants.
 
I'm switching for a few reasons - First, I love my Droid but want to try something new. Nothing is preventing me from switching back to my Droid if I don't like it and I'm sure that there will be a large enough market on Craigslist and eBay for used vzw iphones if it doesn't work out for me.

Second, it will be nice to carry one less device. I almost need a man-purse to carry all of my electonics and chargers. Combining my iPod and phone will make it easier.

Actually, I don't sit on it. I never even put it in my back pocket, let alone drop it. The paint is even coming off the phone even though I've had a case on it. Plus, each phone has mysteriously had some of the same problems the one before it has. Coincidence? I think not, just a faulty OS that needs lots of work.
 
Sounds like you got stuck in a bad refurb cycle or just bad luck, Im still on my first which has been overclocked for a year now and not a single problem with the phone or OS yet. The fake gold came off my camera button but considering I don't use a case I didn't expect it to stay in pristine condition.
 
A year ago I would have been all over one... Now that I am educated in Android, Ill for sure pass.... Im positive my wife and kid will like these, but thats because they love their Ipod Touch(s) and can stop carrying 2 devices....
 
Competition is good. I will evaluate all phones when my contract is up in Sep. Until then, I will sit back and watch. 9 months is two lifetimes for smartphones.

THIS!!! I'm still on D1, wife is on Droid Eris and hates it. I'm going to let her burn my upgrade so she can have an iPhone again. Me? I'll wait until her line's due for an upgrade at the end of the year and see what kind of 4G phones have hit the market; hopefully something unlocked like the D1.

Most Droid owners have had no problem with their phones. Usually people don't post a thread on how their phone is trouble free, I know I haven't. I've had mine since Dec. '09 and haven't had a single issue. And I haven't been easy on it. I flash ROMs every day, and use it pretty heavily. I think some people can get a bit picky about "problems" with their phones and return them for the smallest thing, hence people having multiple returns. I was a bit hesitant when I bought my Droid because the moto phones I've owned in the past have been sub-par at best, but I'm glad I did. I'll wager most people have had good experiences with their Droids.

Well of course, it's the vocal minority, but it seems to be a huge minority in the Droid's case in particular. There are known design flaws, such as the 3.5mm jack breaking, the screen getting dust under it, keyboard keys falling off, the battery door falling off very easily... these just are not good things. A device that looks so solid shouldn't be so flimsy and prone to failure.

Because of fanboys. Those that aren't realize that there's no one-size-fits-all device out there and that the iPhone can certainly be suited to others even if it isn't suited to them. That, and immature users who aren't confident in their own decision making without knocking the alternatives. It's not just smartphones. I see this on all sorts of forums sites on various topics.
 
I got my D1 the day after it was released and still have it. I'm not a total techie and I don't flash ROMs daily. I'd say I find a ROM I like and stick with it until I see something slicker, better UI, etc. I love the customization and the widgets.
But my D1 is acting old. It has horrible lag a lot of times when opening up the dialer, messaging, or even going from screen to screen. I also hate how there is no easy integration with a music/app manager the way iPhones/Pods/Pads are with iTunes. The Android market has so many flaws I don't even want to get into it. But the fact that you can't even sort your search results by best selling or rating is annoying as hell. The iPhone's UI is extremely smooth in my limited experience...much more so than my D1.
At this point, I'm torn. I love widgets, customization, flashing ROMs, integration with my google calendar and all my google email accounts. But I love how Apple products (in theory...from friends/family who have nothing but Apple products in their home) seemlessly integrate with one another (sure, I know there are exceptions, but I've had many friends/family tell me that they switched over to Apple and have never looked back). I feel if I get an iPhone and like it, I'll probably go 100% Apple and ditch the HP laptops and Dell PC (it's old anyway).
But there are some promising possibilities with the upcoming LTE phones on Verizon.
As it stands, I can't get a phone until August anyway, so I'll watch the tech landscape till then.
But the final thought I have on all this is, if I switch to the iPhone, will all the money I spent on Android apps be wasted? Or can I at least offer proof of purchase (if I can find the emails) and download the iOS app (for example, Documents to Go I got for $10 and love it...it would suck to have to purchase that and others again if I make the switch)?

Are you using launcherpro?

That said, the app selection is definitely better on the iPhone for now and the interface is a little slicker. Once jailbroken, you can do a lot of interface customization. The most annoying thing about the iphone for me is that word wrap only works on double tap zoom in the browser, and the browser has no kinetic scrolling.

Yeah, using Launcher Pro but not the paid version (I'd buy it at this point except I deploy to Iraq for 6 months in a couple weeks so no point).

Never heard of AppBrain or doubletwist...I'll have to give it a try.

Does the paid version of launcher pro run more smoothly?

Too often the apptray slowly populates. Or when I hit the home button after using an app the home screen will populate slowly, one icon/widget at a time.
