ipod died... new one or 32gb in the Inc?

And for those knocking the audio quality of the incredible, take the time to install the DSP equalizer. It makes a world of difference and sound better than any ipod (just from the bass quality alone).

Where do I get DSP Equalizer? Doesn't the device have to be rooted?

get the card and buy a clip+ you can use the card in that and it is a good player along with a small size you will not be disappointed

This is what I'm doing. I own a Droid Incredible and a Sansa Clip+. Both have 8GB internal and a 32GB MicroSDHC. I don't mind using my phone for music occasionally, but the battery life has to be dedicated to more important things. So the Clip + is my dedicated player.

I sync both using Media Monkey Gold (but the free edition is fine for the average person). I just like that I can fully use my quad-core when converting files with Gold.

But what I do now is, run Sub-Sonic a music streaming server on my home pc. It stores all my music, then got the sub-sonic app (works from web based too) on my Inc. Now I can steam 100 gigs of music to my phone anywhere! My own pandora.

Is Sub-Sonic free? The android app is free, but how about the pc software?

Here's what I would do. Buy the card and have that hold you over for about six months, when the Samsung Galaxy Player will be released. Android based MP3 player with touchscreen, wifi, bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, 1GHz processor, DNLA support, 2MP camera, etc. It will come in 8GB and 16GB but will have a MicroSD slot.

I read the memory is expandable up to 32 GB, which is plenty for me.

Edit: oh yeah, I believe it will have a removable battery also.

I was going to say the same thing.

Forget iSyncr, doubleTwist, etc... Install Subsonic, do a little reading about how to setup your server so it's accessible outside your house (it's not that hard), setup the Subsonic Android client with a large cache and you are set.

No more syncing. No more leaving music at home because you didn't have enough room on your phone. No more carrying around two devices.

Subsonic isn't perfect, and lacks a few things like browsing by genre or album, but it gets updated often, and is improving fast. Plus, its hard to beat having access to everything (it obviously can't play protected iTunes music... but none of the other apps can either).

I would go with a new ipod. Using the phone as your primary music device, as well as a phone, is not a very efficient idea, because of the battery. You will get far more battery life and enjoyment, using a dedicated music device.

I never did figure out SubSonic or get it configured right.

My thoughts... I am using Audio Galaxy. No set up problems, been using it for a few days, seems to work just fine.

Your mileage may vary.

I would recommend the SD card with your Inc. For the price of an ipod touch, you could get 2 32gb micro sd and an extended battery.

If you still prefer a dedicated device: I recommend looking somewhere else than Apple. I prefer Creative for the sound quality, but I haven't used a dedicated MP3 in awhile. Their latest is a 3" touch that can also have various apps made for it ( though it's dedicated, so don't expect much...NTM they appear to be switching to Android ), it supports virtually every format you throw at it including Itunes Plus Unprotected AAC....and it also has a micro-SD slot that appears to support up to 16gb. There is also an FM radio...all this and the 64gb version is currently $250: ZEN X-Fi2 64GB | Creative Labs Online Store

I know there are a few others, but like I said: I'm out of touch a bit on the dedicated MP3 player...I just use my Inc.

Remember, Apple charges more for less. Always shop elsewhere:)

Here's where I found it, says its for the EVo but works for inc:
DSP Manager Equalizer for Android 2.2 - xda-developers

Unfortunately you do have to be rooted, however with this guide you will find that it's a pain free process:

http://androidforums.com/incredible...ked-3-rooting-stock-incredible-evo-2-2-a.html

Good thing I read through the entire thread, because this was exactly what I was going to suggest! :D

The reason you have to be rooted to use DSP Manager is because it - I believe this correct - installs at the system level, which requires root access.

What this means is that when you set your DSP preferences (your equalizer), it means that ALL of your music - streamed, played through a player, or otherwise - all of it will be equalized to your preferences. This is friggin awesome -- it means your Pandora, SiriusXM Radio, Podcasts -- anything you listen to will sound BETTER -- WAY BETTER -- than any iPod.

If you're playing MP3s, you really should buy PowerAmp and use that as your MP3 player. It also has a multi-channel graphic equalizer that absolutely kicks ass and is worth every penny. You can use it with your DSP Manager enabled to achieve maximum effect.

Hands down, your Incredible is by far the very best *MP3* player - with these apps - than any iPod you could ever hope for right now.

I use my Incredible as my primary music player got rid of my ipod touch I have a 32gb card and PowerAmp music player and DSPManager I also stream my music at home and in the car via Bluetooth

Now I do still have an old 8gig Ipod Mini that I use because I had 2 diffrent Ipod stereos and I wanted to keep using them . My next purchuse is going to be an Older Ipod Touch or Iphone that will then get stripped of ios and Android in it's place so I don't have to use itunes , I can stil lget music via music junk and I can use the docks :)

I also use a set of Bose earbuds with DSP Manager and PowerAmp and the sound quality is simply amazing!

For everyone who has mentioned DSP Equalizer, how do you set it up and can you go back to your old settings prior to using this?

Its an app that runs in the background, enable it play with settings. don't like it just open settings and uncheck enable.

You all tried skytunes? No sd card needed. Stream you entire collection with local caching of songs.

I got rid of my ipod touch as well.

The Incredible does a good job of playing music but iPods are much better sonically and in flexibility. After all it is intended to be a music player first. I do think the touch is a waste of money if you have a smart phone though. Your Incredible will do all of the internet and other stuff that the iPod does so do you really need an iPhone that is just a music player. Go for a Nano and save your money.

I use my Incredible for virtually everything except one thing - music.

I don't really know why maybe it's just a quirk.

I like to keep my music separate especially because my Zune HD can listen to songs for 32 hours straight.

So part of it is battery and part of it is I just feel the need to keep music and phone separate.

I also have the Zune Pass which you can't integrate with Android.

I used my ipod mini yesterday while at they gym for the first time in a long time and the sound quality is nowhere near what my Incredible puts out. Really not an answer for the question but an observation .

Jamor- I get what you're saying sometimes I wish I had a good music player to keep it seprate this may sound weird but I listen to music in my car and I which I could recieve a phone call while still listening to my music. Or at home when I'm streaming music to my stereo from my phone. Well whenI get a call the music stops while I'm on the call. For awhile I loved having a second Incredible it was great being about to use it as a primary music player and my actual incredible as a phone

Audiogalaxy works very well for me streaming music from my homePC to my Inc at work via 3G. You can select by album or artist. You can also shuffle your music or type in a search. No issues at all.

I agree, say you go to a party and the music sucks, and your only source of music is your phone. Now you lose your phone because you want to use it to play some tunes. and it will kill the party when you get a phone call LOL.

It is still nice to have the ability to play music from the phone and stream music, but it would be better to have something that does that separately, especially since wifi is usually around if you need it. and you have your hard drive music if not. I had a first gen ipod and it fried on me playing it 25 hours straight from NY to FL I haven't gone back to apple since. although I would steal someones Ipod, I would never pay for one ha, jk..
