Members gain signature rights only after making 25 posts, a restriction imposed due to frequent drive-by spamming.

I know that. But my question is what is the attribute to the signature links. Are they do follow or no follow?
Only the site administrator, Phases, would be able to give you the answer to that question.
However what I can say is that, first and foremost, we expect all of our members to be here to contribute to the forum, rather than to promote links in their signatures.

Links can either be dofollow or nofollow. The former allows search engines to index the sites' links (link Target website), therefore increasing search engine placement for sites who put links on the site in question.
So for example, I want to promote my site, I place a link on a big famous website a bunch of times, my site benefits as it will appear more in search results. Search engine placement usually costs.
The downside of this is forums imho. It attracts spammers which is only to the communities detriment.

This must be the admin i guess. If this is a nofollow forum what you give back to the community? Which dedicate their precious time generating equally valuable user generated content that search engines base on sending crazy amount of traffic?

How about a free-to-use site with over 1000 individual forums and an active membership rapidly approaching 100k, full of information and resources (also available freely)?
In case you haven't noticed, we already have an extremely active and enthusiastic community here who are generating a ton of useful content simply by contributing.

We have 1000 registrations a day. Some percent of that are spammers and spambots. That percent would be higher if we encouraged signature spamming. With nearly 1 million members, we like to keep our content quality and don't find the risk worth it.
I'm sorry you don't agree, and I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately we would rather not give any SEO love back to all the spammers that DO get through, as all they do for us is:
1) put our staff through the work of weeding them out to help ensure the quality of the forum
2) put our members through an experience of a lesser quality forum.
Since the number of members providing super quality content that even have sites to promote way underweigh the number trying to spam and further, the user base in general - this is the stance we've taken. If you feel you need to find a new community to contribute toward, I understand.

The really great thing about this environment that keeps people coming back is simple ... it is one person trying to help another person or group succeed. No one is "selling" to anyone else. There are differences of opinion. They are generally resolved in a learning experience by at least one of the people involved.
