Is anyone else just a little bit underwhelmed by Nexus S?

I was looking forward to this device, but now may look towards upgrading my x10 to the new x12 whenever it arrives.

What I really want here in Canada is a damn Android phone running 2.2 or higher with a HW keyboard for Rogers. Is that too much to ask?
 
As I sit here with the stock 8 Gig card in my Evo, 16 Gigs with no microSD card slot doesn't look too shabby.
 
It's crazy how the HTC Evo came out months ago but it clearly outclasses the Nexus S from a spec stand point.

I sit with my Evo, and my Captivate with 16GB internal + my 16GB microSD card.

16GB with no hope of external swap sucks big time.

It's been a standard feature of all Android phones, this is a trend that I do not want to see. Removing options and features from Android phones so that they're more "iPhone" like is extremely stupid and lame.
 
I too sense an Apple like feeling, and not in a good way! Removing the SD card was just a plain dumb move on Samsungs part, especially since its even on board with they're windows 7 phone the Focus. I'm very surprised at Google for allowing this. To me the phone is a waste of an idea, a good idea! Its as if they didn't really learn with the first Nexus, seriously T-Mobile? Why not really make a dent and push this on one of the big 3 carriers, unlocked? But truthfully, the real meat and potatoes is this....I'm a Samsung Fascinate owner, and must say I'm extremely pissed that not even a GPS fix, or better yet Froyo was even come this way the last few months. Hopefully HTC, Moto, LG, and Dell bring some real 2011 heat for the next quarter.
 
Each to their own but this phone rocks. I'm a current SGS owner and apart from the following issues/bugs/features there is still no other handset on the market I would rather have:

1. GPS is simply unusable
2. Lag issue related to some dumb partition formatting decisions
3. The Samsung TW crap

Well the Nexus S has come along and it sounds like 1. is probably fixed by the new aerial. Really nothing wrong with the chipset used so a nice and big aerial slapped across the top of the phone should readily fix all the issues experienced under the SGS.

Number 3. is clearly gone, we've got 100% pure Google straight through the device, as a previous Nexus One owner I can't begin to express just how awesome this is.

Number 2... well the jury is still out but hopefully a little helping hand from the Google tech guys (who I'm positive are 110% up on the SGS issues) and this should be painlessly removed.

So what you are left with is potentially a fully functional SGS, with stock Android 2.3, a flash and a fancy bendy screen. No SD Card expansion? big woop. Love the cloud.

Sounds like the best Android phone on the market right now to me.

Everything you stated is an opinion and your needs. That's it. There is no "It should have at least this." There is no "official standard" for what Android phones should have except for the four buttons. If you want it, then there are plenty of other phones out there that has it. For me, I don't care about the expandable storage since the 16gb on the Vibrant is good enough for me, I don't care much about HSPA+ since I get good speeds with 3G already and I don't tether my phone 24/7 for internet connection. The Nexus One came with expandable memory, but it also had a very low internal memory compared to the 16GB storage on the S. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Also, not to anyone specific, who the hell cares about dual core. I don't see any apps needing it besides, maybe games, but that's it. Otherwise, dual core on phones is just hyped up. I'll believe when I see it.
 
Nexus One is still a top phone today(year old) compared to whats out there. This Nexus S is actually Samsung VIBRANT!!?!? This thing wont last a year....we should be getting dual core phones in the next 3-4 months. Its OBVIOUS they rushed this phone for Christmas shoppers and it falls below all expectations.
 
i for one am very underwhelmed. after waiting for so long, and after owning the N1, which IMO still reigns in at the top of the bords. this thing smells liek the IP4, a phone delivered to make money, and nothing more.

it looks liek a plastic toy, what happend to our nice looking N1? why did we downgrade to a copy of anoither phone? the specs are...exsistent already? personally i dont see why i would buy this, and it makes me sad caue i dont like anything else out(including the phone this is based off of)

i guess ill be waiting for the nexus 3? if they even bother trying one.
 
Yep no Micro SD, Epic fail! no use to me as someone with more than 16gb of music. How long will we have to wait to get a decent handset? Will there ever be a cutting edge handset with no flaws? I dont think there ever will be,

For me its back to using a handful of separate gadgets, the all in one solution I dont think will ever really exist. Ifs its not a flawed GPS its a lack of storage, if its not abysmal battery life its a lack of basic features. My cash will remain in the safe for now.
 
Hi guys,

I am new to the smartphone scene, for this reason I have been reading this forum with great intent.

I must say that I quite like the nexus s but I agree with the issue of the SD card, plus it would have been great if it had radio (in order to transmit music from phone to car).

I want to buy a smartphone, but not sure which one... do you think that nexus s is the way forward or should I go for something else e.g. desire HD or iphone?

I agree with the overall consensus that this phone is under specd. No hspa+, no hdmi out, no trackpad or notification light, no sd card slot. Some of these things people have grown to expect in a smart phone and especially in an android phone no less. That some of these features could be left out is not a good omen. The world needs another Apple like it needs leporsey of the groin.

At least I can say this, I am happy that google didn't abandon their mobile project like they said they would after the first nexus one went somewhat south interms of sales. At least it seems that will continu to make their own products to showcase android and give people a chance to get an unadulterated android experiance. In principle this is something I am pretty happy about.

i just that in spite of some of the amputated specs the phone still does well enough to send a message to the phone makers and carriers, and hopefully set a trend, that people don't like their shit simple and plain. I just hope google didn't shoot themselves in the foot to much with the specs to prove this point.

My recommendation would be to get either a subsidized existing Galaxy S or HTC or Motorola device if you need something right away, otherwise be patient and wait for Q1 2011 when the new dual-core devices start making their debut; it will be EPIC!
 
big fat FAIL imo

I just sold my Galaxy S because I thought it sucked (and bought a G2) and this is nothing more than a Galaxy S without an SD slot
