Root Is everyone using ROM manager now?

Yep, you can DL them and use Rom Manager to install them from the SD Card. Rom Manager is really good. I still want to try other options like A4D if anyone can tell me if it's even worth it.

Last I looked at a4d it only had 1 rom which was an outdated version of koush's cyanogenmod. Might be better for other phones but sucks for droid. Also seemed like it tried to hard to be fancy and made it a little confusing

So I'm currently running on CyanogenMod 5.0.5.7 and I'd like to flash to the new 5.0.6.2. Should I check both backup and wipe data before flashing? Will this ensure that all of my applications automatically redownload themselves afterwards?

Even though both ROMs are from the same developer your best bet is to do a data wipe. If your apps don't automatically redownload your paid apps will still show in downloads and can be obtained manually. Once again, Titanium backup will back up and restore your apps and app data.

It has nothing to do with not knowing how to get down and dirty with ADB, it just makes it all so much easier. When you've been doing CMD prompt stuff since the G1 you don't mind a change in things like RM brings.

What are you talking about? I thought you just flashed ROMs with that alien robot brain of yours?!?

How many times do I have to tell you that my super advanced quantum computing technology will fry the circuitry of any of Earth's electronics.

I've had no problems with ROM Manager. I find it extremely easy to switch ROMs and do anything else I need to through the app. I would definitely recommend buying it in the market!

Yeah, exactly. I know how to use the Terminal and it's a great skill to know and even time-saving in some cases when compared to a GUI; this isn't one of those. A simple list-based GUI like that of ROM Manager's saves headache and time and while it might not be some grand adventure, it's nice to have all of the resources you need consolidated in one app, even for experienced users.

Rom Manager is awesome.. There is no reason not to use it now. It is already faaar superior to anything else and I only see it getting better as more people jump on.

The thing I am most excited for is when it will be the standard way to customize your custom roms. Did anyone try installing Ultimate Droid with Rom Manager? It was so ****in slick! Now I have never used a BlackDroid Rom and never will but that was one thing that he got right.. One day I just clicked the spot to download for the hell of it and it brought up menu after menu of how to customize your droid. First a list of Kernels to choose from. Then a list of Launchers. Then a list of Themes to apply etc etc. There couldn't be a more painless way to do it than Rom Manager...

Since Pete is moving exclusively to Rom Manager, I'm hoping that these options in RM are the "goodies" he is talking about. I would love to just hit a check box for glass theme, chevy lv kernel, and helix2 launcher and get the perfect setup on just one boot.

ROM MANAGER FTW!

I kind of like doing things manually. Hell I prefer actually typing
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
rather than using a script or program.

I also like modifing from base rather than pre-built roms.

There are some things I like new, pretty and slick, but others I like the nitty gritty and manual way.

Tried A4D, it stinks for the Droid. Only has one old CM ROM, but the upside is we could start adding to the repository by submitting any ROM we want to the site that hosts it (name escapes me). Also the recovery it should flash is by Amon_RA and he makes the best recoveries so that is a plus.

I wasn't until I started looking for themes and couldn't find any that worked for ESE81.

Thought maybe I could find some on rom manager, but nope.

I keep trying to use Rom Manager but every time I flash a new ROM I have to reinstall Rom Manager or redownload the premium version as well as Astro so I can get my apps back up and running. Is that normal?

If you do a wipe your apps will be gone so yes, it is normal but not a problem. I keep a copy of Titanium (more appropriate than Astro for backups as it also restores application settings) on my SD card so it is available after a wipe and flash. You can use either ADB commands from your PC or your local terminal to install (if it is included with your ROM) to get things up and running.

Okay. I gave ROM manager a wirl and it's pretty darn sweet. Koush is one talented fothermucker.

One problem; I can't flash any different kernals. They are all greyed out (unselectable). It says something along the lines of "must enable Advanced Mode from the ROM manager main menu" and I haven't the faintest clue what this means.

on the main screen of rom manager press the menu button on your phone then settings then check advanced mode

I am just beginning to learn ADB commands so I am not very comfortable yet on my own. Could you drop a hint or two how to do this?
