IS Evo getting the latest Sense UI?

I know what you're saying and I know that it shouldn't be necessary, but, I'd suggest rooting your phone and getting rid of all of those apps.

I will, just waiting for a stable 90% working (don't care about the HDMI or 4G*) Gingerbread ROM.

* - Sprint has no plans to add any 4G service to the state I live in, ever, according to their map. (I think it is because the population of the entire state is approx 4.5 million, and largest city boasts about 120k people with 926/mile2)

data from us census website, 2006/2000 (most recent updates)
although idcide.com states 127k people

I hate Sprint's whole top-secret, enter your state to view map approach on their goofy website. I know they have another resource somewhere, and sorry to be off-topic, but just in case anyone has the same gripe, I've found this handy mirror - http://3GStore.com || 3G / 4G Coverage Made EASY!

And ps to finndo77 - Y'all are overpopulated to compared to us at 16 people/sq_mi. ;) But we've got 30% (600+k) living in a single metro area (where there's some water) and we're not on any list I know of. Well - for Sprint anyway.

I guess some suit at Sprint has made some case that you don't get big without the build-out but they can't build out because they're not big. Wonder if his bonus woulda srpung for a few more 4G towers?

Low density is my guess why Sprint will transition to LTE. Wimax was deployed because it's cheap and could be done relatively inexpensively in metro areas and because leaving it's infrastructure in tact while transitioning to LTE won't be a penalty. Give those who have Wimax quick access so you can be "industry first" then cover the masses with LTE once it's a little more mature and in place.

Sprint/Clear's WiMax is a TDD technology. Verizon and AT&T are deploying FDD-LTE.

Also the facts that TDD-LTE is super expensive, not ready yet, can't be used with the spectrum that Verizon and AT&T own, and FDD-LTE has problems handling larger amounts of data traffic due to having two smaller dedicated pipes rather than one large split pipe that dynamically adjusts depending on traffic needs per cell site.

Verizon and AT&T's LTE deployments are going to rely on traffic staying at a certain level in order to preserve performance, that's why I'm expecting them to both get rid of unlimited data plans when 4G rolls out. FDD technologies are less spectrally efficient when compared to TDD tech like WiMax and TDD-LTE.

This is also why Verizon is promising 5-12 mbps while their empty LTE network is currently getting 21+ mbps speeds. As soon as more people start using the 4G LTE network, it's going to choke.

Supposedly, Sprint wrote off the Nextel purchase because it wants to empty the Nextel network by 2013, shuffle the spectrum to free up the upper 800 and 900 mhz band allotted to it by the FCC, and use that for a high-capacity TDD-LTE network that won't degrade indoors.

That would be nice!

i hear that Myn is working on Warm Z.. at port from Desire Z...GB with sense 2.5.
so.. maybe betas by end of month.

I was wrong.. warm Z .. is not GB. :(

it is 2.2 with new sense 2.5.

and it is in beta NOW.. so maybe in 2 weeks there will be a release!

I have not see a true report..
but seen some articles that estimate about 8mil. and some say way lower.

I'm starting to get discouraged as to whether the EVO 4G will be getting the new Sense UI. This is kind of a shocker, since the EVO Shift 4G only has an 800mHZ processor and it can still run the new Sense UI. :( I'm willing to root my EVO just to get the new UI. Anyone one have an estimate of when it'll release?

Yeah there is like a 100 page long thread about this already dude. :)

They did say they'd put out gingerbread after they release a BFD phone with gingerbread, so probably after the 3D comes out.

The shift's processor may be an 800mHZ but its more powerful. 2nd GEN. That probably makes no diff as to why we dont have the new UI, but it may be a part of the problem.

Well - this is now possibly moot.

The Evo 3D 4G was shown sporting Sense 3 - while we're waiting on Sense 2. :) :p

As for the Shift running Sense 2 - really? I've been out of town, just got back and haven't checked the Shift yet.

I've probably mentioned this a bazillion times - we have both the Evo and the Shift. The Evo with a tuned (non-stock) kernel is on par with the stock Shift - the Evo is better for cpu-intensive stuff, the Shift gets the nod on graphics. So overall, despite the benchmark differences, as a not-casual user, I'd call them equivalent overall.

IOW - just don't see any reason for the Evo to not be able to cope with Sense 2.

New sense is awesome I have a inspire 4g well if you wanna call it 4g, and the new themes HTC hub scenes widgits are pretty nice, HTC is constantly updating the hub and the find my phone feature works well. And they have included the cover art flow into the music player that was my biggest pet peve that the music player was so outdated, but now with coverflow srs enhancement and dolby mobile and a eq its freaking sweet I love the new sense but the newer sense is going to be the icing on the cake specially with the evo 3d coming out oh how can you not love the specs ;)

I wondered where you'd gone!

Cool beans on the firsthand lowdown on the new Sense!

For sure, I just got done reading the thread where me and you first crossed paths lol the august 5th release of froyo that was good stuff let's see if I can send 20 emails and get a date for the evo 3d lmao by the way will you be upgrading early Mon?
