Is it possible to remove trackball on HTC Hero

well the title says it all, i would like to remove my trackball so i can clean it, but cannot figure out how to, is it possible?

I'd like to remove it so I can dye it a neat color. If I can do it without taking the whole phone apart I'd be tempted to try this.

From experience of taking apart other phones you probably wont be able to get the ball out without either unclipping something on the front (nothing there so probably not) and the only other way would be too take it apart and I wouldnt want to do that to my Hero.

That would work. I have not needed to clean mine though as I hardly ever touch the trackball.

I use a product called clean safe. which is specifically designed to clean computer screens and camera lens etc etc.
dose a great job keeping the whole phone clean.

are referring to cleaning the track ball while it's seated in the phone or if it's disassembled?

While it's in the phone, no need to remove it.

If you watch the HTC Hero disassembly video, it shows the trackball encased in a black housing all in one piece. The replacement part for it probably comes as that unified piece rather than just a ball.
