is it worth upgrading from Samsung Admire? Metropcs

I got the Admire, was my first smart phone, use it all the time, seems slow, have bad connection, no network alot.

The admire seems to have problems switching from wifi to using it's internal whatever to connect, I have to restart a lot.

Will this phone be a big improvement and will the 4 g plan be worth the $5 more per month or does it sound like a service problem? I could keep using the admire a while longer.

I'm thinking about going today so please chime in soon if you have an opinion.
 
The motion and admire are roughly the same size, and the screen is the same size. That's where the similarities end. The motion blows the admire clear out of the water in every way.

I myself upgraded from the Optimus M which was pretty similar to the Admire and I am so glad I did.
 
In terms of performance of course this phone is going to be faster than the Admire (never had one personally though). I can switch to WiFi pretty easily, after getting rid of the stupid Metro Easy WiFi app first though. If you do get this phone you must disable that stupid app, and most if not all of the metro bloat.


As for service issues. I don't know if you will see much improvement. I know in my family we have two other non-smart phones but they get the same number of service bars as mine. In fact my Dad has my old Samsung Freeform II and it might get a slightly better connection, only slightly.
 
hmm, I'm just so cheap, I wish this admire would break so I wouldn't feel guilty buying a new phone lol

also did the Motion used to be $100? the review on cnet say's $100, but best I can find at mobile stores is about $150

and yes, it worth the upgrade.
 
The Motion was never $100, you had to buy 2 4GLTE phones and put them on the same plan to get a $50 rebate, essentially making one of them 100 and the other still 150.

I just switched from an admire to the motion...just do it! in Texas the 4G coverage is way better so i'm getting 3-7mbps down even in places where i used to get 150kbps max.I went through 500mb of 4g the first day just streaming radio and testing the network speed. It took me a month to get that kind of usage out of my admire.

but network coverage aside the processor, running ICS, 5gb internal, it is really worth it. The admire is a nice phone for 80 bucks when I bought it, but for $150 you are getting a ridiculous phone for the price. I feel like I can actually use the phone now and do more with it.

Good thing there are other users giving their input. The LG Motion 4g is my first smartphone so I can't really compare it to the Admire in terms of actual usage.
 
one word ...UPGRADE ...i went through two admires ...and this phone is simply one of the best metropcs phone (if not the best) up to date ...everything is so smooth and it glides through everything ...the admire does not have that kind of performance (of course)... the motion is a premier android device
 
Went from an admire to the motion, absolutely worth the $150. Obviously much faster, able to actually multi-task, just a vast improvement in every way.
 
I bought the Motion 4GLTE. The phone flies. multitasking is not even an issue. My old smart phone the Huawei was a turtle race. But on that I was able to get the metro PCS wifi for free at my home. I am told now that this is unsecured and dangerous to use. When you guys get WIFI from your home, is that through your own home wireless network setup? My plan comes with 2.5 gb of free internet than it drops to 3G.

I like to use my phone to sleep I hook up my headphones and use the Tunein Radio App to listen to streaming sports talk radio. At this rate I'm sure to go over my 2.5 gb in the course of a month, so I really would like any insights on to what type of wireless router to buy?

Right now I have a wired network in my house that just has my tower computer and my bluray. So should I just go out and buy a wireless router to replace my hard wired one, and set up my own home network to get all the WIFI I want? If so can you give me any recommendations as to what brand to buy for a wireless router and what it should support ie; 802.11 b/g/n even better a model number for one that works well for you.

Should I bother with "rooting" it, I mean all I use root for on my old phone was to get rid of bloatware
 
The Admire was also my first Android. I loved that little thing. I rooted it the day I got it, Rom'd the hell out of it. Finally settled with Spz0's Open Android ROM that I themed to my liking. Tweaked the memory management with V6 Supercharger. It was sexy,responsive, and stable. I got the Motion almost 2 weeks ago. I love it! So far we only have root for it, I almost didn't get it because of that, but I have faith in the dev community. I kept my Admire to use as a backup IP phone, run tracker, and mp3 player but a friend needed a phone really bad for his biz. I used ODIN to flash the official MPCS 2.3.6 update 'cause the program that came with it kept crapping out on my machine. ODIN worked flawlessly and there's no annoying yellow triangle. I missed my Admire for like a day :)
 
Hey Thanks warock56 for responding. I really appreciate it. I have the 55 a month plan already.

So my next step is then to get a wireless modem and create my own home network. I'll hardwire my computer and bluray and just get my internet signal from the router for the phones wifi. Cool!

thanks again for the fast response. The phone is really worth the 150 I paid for it online, they shipped it free 2nd day fedex too from the metpcs webaite.

Yes, buy it and activate it yourself, tell them that or you'll come out of there with a 180+ bill like some of my friends.

I switched from the LG Optimus M rooted with CM7 rom and everything to make it as fast as possible, with this phone you dont even have to try... literally.

I did root/remove all the bloatware just cause I dont like having extra stuff on my phone, I dont know if it helps with battery life but the performance is great either way, rooted or not.

I recommend rooting but its up to you.

Tell us how it goes if you get it.
 
Side by side speed test with the admire and motion just now on speedtest.net :

Admire: Ping 187ms 358 kbps d 302 kbps u

Motion: Ping: 171ms 2776 kbps d 4315 kbps u

As you can see it's no contest.

A simply Googling would have shown you the Motion for $139 shipped from Wirefly. That's a free dinner difference in $.

I would have suggested that but I just saw this.

you just got a $300 phone for half price. at least thats how much this little monster is worth.

may i remind people that you can remove or disable all bloatware on this phone WITHOUT root!

This is why I won't root the phone. That, and returning my Optimus M to stock from having been rooted bricked it somehow.

With this phone, I'm not taking chances on ANYTHING that could potentially mess it up.

EDIT, what's this junk I'm reading about wirefly 6 month contract? Is that true? If so I rather just order from metropcs of go to the mobile store, that seems sketchy, the mobile store might be a few dollars more but at least they transfer all my stuff, get me set up and make sure I'm on the plan I want
 
I ordered through Metropcs online, it was $158 after taxes, wirefly was like $9 less but seemed a little sketchy with the new account jazz and whatnot, not worth worrying about.

the mobile store would have been $173 btw

So I'm new to Metropcs, I have the samsung admire right now. If I go into the store, will it just be 149+tax? Or will they charge me an activation fee? If so, is it better to order online?

If I order it online, I can activate it myself and keep the same number? What information will I need to do so?
 
my girl bought the samsung admire for me 10 bucks at a metro store used! it was a better phone than my old LG phone that didnt even have android... i hacked it and installed a rom it ran ok until i dropped it in the toilet on accident


i was forced to buy a new phone and i decided that the motion 4g was gonna be good. it is a lot better than the admire, the motion 4g internet is much faster, the whole phone runs faster, way more internal memory so you dont have to worry about how many apps you install... finally works the way an android should out of the box i still havent rooted mine because i see no point until they come out with roms and i can get jellybean, 2 things i did do though, uninstalled all metro bloatware, bought a 32gb micro sd... had 2

Here in Michigan sales tax is 6%, the store wanted to add some sort of "upgrade' charge, said it would be like $174 out the door or what ever price I wrote above.

You should be able to keep number and decent stores will transfer contacts and stuff if you need them to, most of that syncs with gmail, facebook etc.. anyways

I havent receive my phone yet, metropcs said to call them when It arrives and they will walk me through setting it up and upgrading plans, I want the $55 unlimited
