Root Is Odin mandatory for flashing

I apologize for making a new thread. i just was wondering if odin is mandatory in order to flash the prevail. i am a intermediate flasher lol byt have never used odin before. thx in advance.i have been reading up but just wasn't sure.

If you have never used odin before you need it to get clockworkmod. And then you need clockworkmod to be able to flash. So like kouma said yes.

His could be rooted but he wouldn't have clockworkmod to flash roms and stuff

Ok i got it now. phone is not rooted yet but now i see it is required in order to use cwm to flash the rom,etc. thanx to all for the quick response. excellent forum/users.
