Root Is rooting bad for your health?

Since starting down this track, and now having rooted my Desire, I've found I just can't stop changing, tweaking, flashing, researching and reading about the topic. Is this typical? Does something like rooting your phone always lead to addiction? I keep telling myself that all of this has very little to do with business efficiency and more to do with using the phone as an entertainment product. Ok, I still use the phone for all of the basics at work but really, now that I have started I just can't stop! There are anti-porn programs out there, is there anything to stop me making more changes to my phone?

:)

yep, thats it now, you are one of many addicts, we have a thread for AA (android Anonymous) which will teach you how to go out and sell your android and start using a good old motorola brick. then you will fall into deep depression when you see a new angry birds being released. hahahahahaha welcome to the gang!!!

it gets better over time. you end up getting fed up of flashing stuff and finding your sweet spot. then you turn into automated helpers on this site without realised
from that point you may look into suddenly developing a rom like SUroot

Something I said I'd never want to do.

I got bored. Redux was better than any other Rom for me but there was still a lot of room for improvement. I wasn't going to sit back and hinder my device from being the best it can be...

Ok, that did get me laughing out loud!!

+1 (apart from the ROM dev bit), now its wait and see if AdamG comes up with Oxygen ICS for desire :) but looks like he's prioritising SGS2 first :(

What with the Theme Manager in Miui and over 1000 pages of screenshots, it's hard not to stop messing. Other people don't see, nor appreciate the obsession, they just think i'm a geek.

Life was simple. The wife did not moan at me for spending all my spare time on my phone reading forums and looking for something else to do on my desire.........oh well think its time for a new rom

And, it takes up a lot of my thinking time! For heavens sake, I am in my mid 60's and one would think I had grown out of such addictions. I have had a reasonably strong IT involvement since the early 80's and although not working in the industry as such, I have always enjoyed tinkering with both hardware and applications. But this is a whole new level. I am even thinking of buying a cheap desire on auction just to test the nightlies. How sad is that?

Buying a second one for more experimental stuff crossed my mind a few times. But instead I spent a month or so running CM7 nightlies on my main phone - I didn't flash every one, but a couple a week on average.

Much more stable ROM-wise at the moment, but I am back to running test kernels - like methadone for a flash addict I guess ;)

I'm always looking on eBay for faulty desires in the hope I can get it up and running, but I don't think I'm alone in this as they still go for good money.

I should have started this thread too :-D
I went through a low spot of flashing my rom more than once a day :-( :-D
I realised things had to change........ :-)

now sticking with dGB11 or cm7. .....until the horror of ICS happens! :-D

Something that started as an interest, turned to hobby has become a habit.
But yeah keeps the grey cells alive, so no complaints. Infact enjoying every bit of it.
And when you increase the number and variants of your victims( phones:) ) it is so much more fun.

I rooted about a month ago and have spent agood few hours probably every night since ironing out problems, downloading new roms but mostly just reading through this forum, some good advise and help here!

Hello all. My name is JonLTD. And I'm a serial flasher.

At the moment I have settled for Redux buying feeling the awkward feeling of change stirring within me. I've only flashed a handful of roms but there are so many out there I'm going to.

I probably browse this forum daily and pick up tips and try and help where I can. Plus the regulars are a big big help!

dGB this weekend I feel (if I'm not working)!

Hello, My name is Rastaman-FB and i have OCAMS (Obsessive Compulsive Android Modification Syndrome)
I have learned that there is alot like myself and the best therapy is to embrace it and become what this syndrome is pushing me toward in the first place

Me too.

I have a nandroid backup of 6 (and growing) roms, set up just how I like them. And I hace yet to touch hboots sizes and kernals. I dread to think what will happen to me
