Root Is s-off required?

I'm reading this Unlimited.IO and I have a question. Towards the end, it says to unlock the bootloader at htcdev.com. I already did that and I have the Unlock_code.bin file in my gmail. Do I need to do it again? Won't they just give me the same file?

well with step 7 you have to relock the bootloader.....so yes you need to re-unlock it again. you can use the same unlock code. no need to get it again.
 
I went ahead and got it again, followed al the instructions to the letter. I'm on the last step, RabiesShot, it's running a few test, rebooting the phone a lot. Hopefully when I post again I'll be s-off :D
 
yeah I have a 32g in there and it stopped with an error about needing a card between 2g-16g but lucky for me there's a best buy a mile away from my house I got an 8g card and I'm running RabieShot again... I hope this time I come back with a win lol
 
ok it worked! I got s-off but when I went to recovery, it doesn't bring up TWRP anymore, just a picture of a phone and a red triangle with a ! inside it. Guessing I gotta re-install TWRP and then I can flash ROMs to my heart's content?
 
Thanks :) nandroid restore, what's that lol. I did a backup with TWRP, I made sure it worked, I then copied it to my computer's hard drive so I wouldn't lose it by accident. I figured I could move it back to the backup folder in TWRP on the phone and restore that. Is that nandroid or am I missing something lol
 
Ok that backup was still on the phone, nice. booting into cm10.1 now and.... the touchscreen works!!! thank you so much for the handholding :)

is it normal that its asking me to activate the phone? i tried to do it but it failed after it made a call.

NICE!!!!!!

and another recommendation is to try pacman. it is a combo of paranoid, aokp and cm10 cooked into one. i'm currently on it and it rocks!!!!!! i keep going back to it. i really recommend it.
 
Yes, every so often, for reasons unknown, you have to reactivate a phone.

I usually just call Sprint and tell them that I did a factory data reset because it was slow, and ask for help if anything is wonky. Never had a problem, they're used to that.

you will need to be on a sense rom though. can't reactivate on an aosp rom.
 
booted back into sense, reactivated, so you're telling me now if I go try CM10 again it won't ask me to reactivate?
