Is the Droid X really that bad

anyone else think its funny that people bash the X in the DInc forums while the DInc barely gets mentioned over here....

hmmm....

Because we don't care about the incredible. I have an upgrade coming up very soon and I have no desire to bother with upgrading. The X is simply a better quality piece of hardware compared to the Incredible.

We don't need to bash the incredible users. We know what's what. It's a shame that they have to bash another piece of hardware so they can feel better about their own purchase.

*shrug*

i think the incredible is a nice phone, you know what they have that we dont???
and unlocked bootloader :p

other than that, the X excels in every other aspect (IMO)

but the incredible is a nice piece of hardware, i just hope and pray moto will change their stance on the bootloaders by march of 2012

Looks like I'll be getting two DX2's tomorrow free of charge, I hope we have better luck with these than the original DX's.
My phone now randomly selects whatever it wants on the screen, will randomly call contacts if I go into the contact screen, likes/unlikes posts on fb without me touching anything. It's like there is a ground fault on the capacitive screen that's making it think I'm touching things. (This is the replacement phone I got last night.)
Either that or the copy of Liberty I put on there is corrupt (the phone was doing it before I loaded it but now it's so bad I can't do ANYTHING on it).

The Droid X is currently giving me a lot of problems, including restarting on it's own, screen becoming completely unresponsive and sometimes even going completely blank, lagging, and apps giving me a force close message.

the X has always had restarting problems, but they disappeared, when we all updated to 2.3.340, the screen becomes unresponsive because of the lag in the launcher and when you start it up, or receiving alot of messages, certain apps will have some force close issues. just upgrade and you will see a difference :)

Pulling the battery seems to help with the erratic screen selection problems, at least I can use it for a few hours at a time - hopefully this means I'll be able to put it back to stock before returning it!

METROIDMAN-

I did everything you suggest Minus the itunes stuff.

I rooted also.

I put my phone down on the table for a second 'cause i was going to connect it to my laptop to charge and then all of the sudden the phone opened up my browser and started to go through the web page address ( i was on android forum previously but hit the home button) so yeah it was like it was possessed....

the launcher ap i installed had little + marks at the bottom, which i could customize, so i did... i did a battery pull after the exorcism my phone was going through and then when the phone rebooted, it had its "own" buttons... its been ok since then...i have a horrible signal though- i've reset my towers twice now

Now that i've done all this- can i still rom/theme?

Yes you can still Rom and theme though I would wait for a bit. Let GB come out first this weekend and install it. It'll speed up your phone quite a bit. Also trust me when I say iSyncr is a godsend. I tried everything after I got rid of my 3GS to sync my music easier while still using iTunes. iSyncr was the best thing ever. I just organize my music via iTunes on my PC and then sync it to my phone using iSyncr

Also in terms of signal, it's most likely your area.

Oh and i didn't answer your question- i pay 38 a month because my friend has a special contract with verizon because he has like 18 lines with them so they give him really good deals

I'll wait for that gingerbread thingy-
I keep reading about people having the gingerbread "leak" edition- is it rooted? and does that mean that i can do that update and then immediately after root my phone as well? the tethering feature is a godsend for me for school

you cannot accept the OTA if your on the leaked GB versions unfortunately, you would have to sbf back to stock, to accept the OTA. But the leaked rooted GB is amazing, and im not taking the OTA until we have root on it:p

Do we HAVE to SBF back to stock or can we just load the .340 in an updat.zip and load it the same way we do all our other custom roms? My DX2 showed up in the mail today but I need to get my DX back to stock before I can return it. :o

You have to SBF back to stock.

+1

once you upgraded to leaked gb you have to sbf to get back to stock, otherwise your going to be charged by verizon for a restocking fee for returning a rooted phone.

just sbf, and wipe data and cache like your supposed to and you will be fine :)

Ok, I'm running Liberty, not GB (at least to the best of my knowledge it's not a GB). I chose that one because it was listed as stock .340 ROM compatible and it would be the easiest to get running.

flash the maderstcok file, and wipe data and cache after you do it so you get a fresh install :) and boot it up and make sure superuser icon is gone

Ok, bear with me. "Flash the maderstcok file" means putting the file on my phone through usb transfer and loading it via cwm, right?
When I'm in CWM the only option to load is listed as 'update.zip'. I'm assuming I have to replace that file with the one I transfer over?
I received a 'package alert' email from my apartment complex and sent the wife down so she could start transferring all her stuff over to the new phones and it was just a box of two battery covers for the DX2, no actual phones.

EDIT: Sorry for getting off topic...

yes you load it via transfer, but do not rename it to update.zip lol
what you do is wipe data and cache first
then go to install zip from sdcard
then choose location(second option)
then locate where maderstcok is, if you put it on the root of your sdcard it will be at the bottom, select it install it, then reboot phone and your good :)

Pulling the battery doesn't help anymore so I thought maybe it was something I was doing with Droid Overclock. I changed the settings a few times, each time getting more conservative (never over medium voltage and 1.25Ghz) until I finally just deleted the app altogether, still didn't work.
I called VZW back because my phones never showed up and they said that's because they ran out of refurb'd units to send out. Wait a minute, I thought you said I was getting new ones? Nope, they lied to me. So they said they were going to send me two NEW DX2's, I just have to resign a contract. Wait a minute again, you guys have a horrible track record so far and you want me to resign another contract? NO thank you. IF I like the new phones THEN I might consider resigning my contract. Long story short I'm either getting two Droid Incredible 2's or two Droid Incredibles, not even sure if they are new or not. :( I kind of got tired of listening to them. Either way I doubt once my contract is up I'll be renewing with VZW. Hopefully these phones WORK because the android platform has so much potential.

Ok, I loaded the Maderstcok file and tried booting into it but it said operation aborted - bad. I did not rename it update.zip just loaded zip file from drive option in Bootstrap Recovery. Does this mean I got a bad file or I need to try it again? My phone is so buggy at this point it's practically unusable. :(

you could try it again, or you could do the SBF back to stock, which will return your phone the way it was the day you got it. i would do that in all honesty, because then there are no traces of root.

SBF’ing the Droid X U D G

that is the link to the sbf page on rooolers root guide

Thanks for the input, I may try that after this if it doesn't work. I noticed some differences in the .zip files and figured out why it didn't work before. I redownloaded and loaded the maderstock.zip but now I'm stuck in bootloop. Yay, go me.

were you on GB and flashed the maderstcok?? if you were, thats why you bootlooped, the only way to get back to froyo is the SBF back. and then you can recieve the OTA to actually go to the real GB ^_^

I was running Liberty 2.0.1 and both the wife and I loved it but unfortunately my phone was not the best test bed to be using with the hardware problems.
Update: I was able to pull the battery and go into factory reset mode, did a hard reset and now my phone is back to stock. It took me FOREVER to sync my phone to my google account because of the screen possession - I can't tell you how many times I had to go back and reinput my email address because of whatever this screen is doing. :-/ It definitely wasn't the Liberty software doing it and I would definitely recommend that ROM to anybody running a DX.
I think it's absolutely pitiful that a company would send out a unit such as this to replace an already defective unit.

So, for those of you that are interested and are trying to learn more about DX ROMs, I flashed Liberty 2.0.1 right on top of my phone and it worked great - very easy actually. When it came time to go back I just loaded the stock software (maderstock.zip NOT maderstcok.zip as that file is only 86 megs, not 256 megs like the original [reason is the mirror sites rezip the file that is already zipped and it needs to be unzipped one level to work - kinda like Inception]) and ran it in bootloader to run it. I did bootloop but after pulling the battery and going into the stock factory reset program (because doing this will wipe your z4 root and CWM) and doing a factory wipe I was able to get into my phone with the stock Froyo software. Cheers for those of you that have had better luck with your phones than myself.

i ran all versions of liberty, even the GB builds, for me they ran smooth and correctly after the 3rd time flashing it.

apex ran like a champ all the time.

i also have an error with validating my google account, when i put in my email address then i go to the password, it would occasionally jump back up and highlight my gmail and i delete it by typing in my password, so i know your troubles there. but that doesnt bother me with this phone. seems you just have no luck with moto as i have no luck with toyo, so dont worry, hopefully the new DINC will be great for you, i hope you will continue to root and rom your android.

and hopefully you will drop by the dx forum and let us know how its going for you
