is the eris on the out

Mine was $80 but I waited for the New Every Two to kick in. I'm just Ilae they didn't knock it down to "free with upgrade" the day after my trial expired... they did that to me with my last phone. So for $30 bucks, it ain't a bad deal.

Okay, so I paid $130 and got the rebate, which went into the Seidio 3500mAh battery and Skinomi screen protector, plus my PDAnet upgrade.

It convinced me that HTC makes good stuff.

blah I hearing from everyone saying I should skip the eris and go to the droid or something better then I hear from people just get the eris.

blah!

Listen, if you're going to use the eris as a regular phone mostly then go ahead and get it. If you're planning on running lots of apps and games don't even think about getting it. It just too slow to multitask.

is the HTC Droid Eris on the out

I have seen a few threads with people saying that it is being outed on verizon.

should I be worried seeing as Im going to be getting one in the next few days

its the only droid phone I can afford right now. plus I have messed around with one and I really like it.

OPINIONS PLEASE!

Skip it. I don't know what state you are in contract wise - but I got an Incredible for $150 plus Tax. The Eris is ok, and just because Verizon will stop selling it as soon as stock runs out doesn't mean much but pay a little more and get a phone that's going to last well into the next two years. It's like night and day between the two and it's not that much more monies.

the only apps Im going to be using all the time is pandora while Im at work

and google maps for the few trips I take this summer

but yeah other than that I only know of a few other apps Im gonna be using.

Im at the point where its either the eris or the moto droid

For 20 bucks more than the eris, and 100 bucks less than the droid you could get the LG ALLY that is shipping on the 20th. It is as fast as the droid and has a larger battery stock (1500)

You'll find other apps that you'll like and want to run.

lol well birthday cards are rolling in from family members

looks like the moto or the inc are looking cheaper by the day.

and it reminds me I need to write thank you cards. lol

well... i was gonna say to stick with the eris since you don't have the money and its free on wirefly and newegg.com...

but...
now it seems like you should get the incredible!

Balderdash!!!

First, what possible reason is there to want to run multiple apps in the first place. It's not a computer. So what if iPhone supposedly does that?

Second, for the price, Eris is just fine. It will continue to be supported for a couple of years, at least. Maybe no further O/S updates, but support will continue.

In the world of mobile communications, three months after a new model comes out it will be obsolete. Get used to it. Technology is improving at a tremendous rate. That means it is almost impossible to "keep up with the Joneses".

Like has been said here. When you buy a new smartphone right now, it's like driving a new car off the lot. The phone is becoming obsolete the day you take it home. Improvements are being made at breakneck speeds right now. I would just go pick a current phone that you like and is in your price range and don't look back.

Actually the Eris uses the same generation hardware the original G1 has which is why Verizon has labeled it End of life.

I being very serious, there is no reason to be purchasing the Eris with all these new phones out now.

yeah I think Im going for the moto droid

The Eris is a great phone and it can be rooted! OC it if you need more speed, my is running at 768MHZ with no problems whatsoever.

BYE BYE battery!
Set CPU allows you to set min max clock speeds. So when the phone is sleeping which is 75% of the time for me it's clocked down between 245-480. I really have not noticed a hit on my battery since overclocking.

Has anyone gotten any verification of the Eris being discontinued? I spoke to a VZW customer service rep this morning and she didn't have a date for this, and hadn't heard that it would going away. Is there a specific date?

My concern is that I'll buy the Eris and then not be able to get accessories for it. A case shouldn't be a huge problem, but if my car charger stops working, does anyone know if all HTC android phones use the same type of charger plug?

It just LOOKS proprietary. It's just the generic mini usb.

You are misinformed.

1. All smart phones are computers running Linux. In thier basic forms there is no difference between your laptop/dekstop computer and current smartphones.

2. Are you really asking why people need multitasking? You are using multitasking on your Eris (if you own one) and you dont even know it.

3. Phones become obsolete in three months only when you use old hardware from years ago. You believe the Eris is a some what new phone when in reality it is 2 years old. Its the same phone as the G1 that came out in 2008 only without a keyboard and slightly more RAM.

I love this phone and hope by the time I need to upgrade there is a comprable one like it, yeah somewhat better, processor wise. Hate to see It get dropped, I like it better than the Moto Droid.

In regard to Wirefly, I have one question - is there any difference (other than price) between ordering from them and ordering from the Verizon store? I'm upgrading my Alltel plan to a VZW plan and in the process having to upgrade my phones to VZW phones. I've got my eye on the Eris, but want to make sure that if I buy from Wirefly that I can still get insurance through Verizon.
Any info from someone who's done this would be greatly appreciated!
-Loralie

Wirefly is just a retailer. Any option, like insurance, that you could get by going directly to a Verizon store, should be available through them.
