You are misinformed.
1. All smart phones are computers running Linux. In thier basic forms there is no difference between your laptop/dekstop computer and current smartphones.
2. Are you really asking why people need multitasking? You are using multitasking on your Eris (if you own one) and you dont even know it.
3. Phones become obsolete in three months only when you use old hardware from years ago. You believe the Eris is a some what new phone when in reality it is 2 years old. Its the same phone as the G1 that came out in 2008 only without a keyboard and slightly more RAM.
Not misinformed at all. What I meant to say is that smart phones don't currently have the computing power of a laptop or desktop computer. I'm sure they will some day.
And I know there are applications running in the background all the time on the Eris. The person who originally made the comment I was responding to was talking about running apps Like Facebook, Handcent, etc., at the same time...or at least that's how I interpreted it. It's not like you need to have Word and Excel running at the same time and swapping back and forth between them like I do on a daily basis on my laptop.
And phone become obsolete as soon as something more powerful and with more options comes along. The iPhone is a prime example. I'm not inferring that they don't perform well or aren't worth having, in fact I'm saying just the opposite.
The Eris is an inexpensive (in some cases FREE) route into Android phones for someone on a limited budget. Sure, there are better models out there and being added every day. For many, the Eris will give good service for the next two or three years.
