ok so my gf got the htc evo v 4g and after several different email accouns and several attempts to support on htcdev website still no activation on my accounts so do we have an alternative to unlock my gfs htc evo without htc dev unlock

Unfortunately none that I'm aware of, I know that htcdev has had some site issues lately, when I did it, I received the unlock code within 5 minutes.
OB

Ob is right. There have been issues with the site loading lately. But did you check your spam folder to see if it went there?

Yes, but it's an advanced method that involves hex editing. Probably best to wait for htcdev to be back up, but it is possible to unlock without HTC dev

Actually, there's an hboot downgrade (a.k.a. "bricking") method that works on CDMA and GSM Evo 3D's, so I don't know why it couldn't work for Evo V's as well. You need to use the correct zip version of the RUU and "brick" the phone as part of the process, and some people have had to "brick" it twice when they were on the Sprint ICS release.

I think the wire trick is easier but some Evo 3D users actually prefer the "bricking" method to putting a wire in their phone.

I've never tried or suggested this method. In my opinion, bricking the phone twice seems risky and far more complicated than juopunutbear s-off. I personally don't know if I'd willingly brick my phone. Maybe now that I'm pretty comfortable with my 3vo but even now who knows.... Especially for someone new to rooting, i can't imagine bricking on purpose.

Some users that have had the mainboard in their phones replaced have no choice because the htcdev.com unlock doesn't work so they can't do the wire trick. For some reason it only seems to have affected the GSM users so far, which is why unknownforce just ported his Ultimate Recovery Tool to the GSM model. The developer of Kernel Tuner (pedja1) was one of the users unable to unlock and he successfully tested the GSM port.

I definitely prefer the wire trick but if that wasn't available for some reason I wouldn't be afraid to try the downgrade method to gain S-OFF. A lot of Evo 3D users did that before the wire trick method became available.

I wouldn't use a wire. A lot harder as they bend easier and end up not touching the metal piece in the hole. Use a paper lip with the colored rubber around it. That worked 3rd try for me. I tried about 40-70 times with the wire and it didn't work. Took 4 hours with wire and failed. Took 15 minutes using paperclip.

was just about to post asking this question...im S-offed but need to reunlock so I can flash Dastins 10.1 again. I tried logging in with my account i already have and it logs me off when i go to the unlock screen

You don't need to unlock. You don't have to flash a rom through fastboot. You can just boot into your recovery and flash the rom from recovery.

If you want the ability to use fastboot commands, you can use a patched hboot and stay locked.

If you want to unlock again, you can use the same unlock token and just issue the command again: fastboot flash unlock_code.bin

Or you can visit this thread:

Download the unlock_bootloader.zip
Ans flash that through recovery (probably the easiest way). It will unlock the bootloader.
For anyone reading this just note s-off is required to flash that zip.

For anyone who is comfortable with Linux and wants to try a different method for getting S-OFF that doesn't require using the htcdev unlock, unknownforce over on XDA is ready to help someone try his Ultimate Recovery Tool (URT) on an Evo V 4G. You can read more about it in this thread.

Just looking for a small bit of guidance before I proceed... seems risky, but I'm willing to try if someone can ease my CID woes.
