I think I know what's going on. There's a version of cm that roebeet has where he automatically had it point to the micro sd card slot to look for the update zip and recovery log. I think the file is cwmod0.8 or something like that. If u use that file, then yes you'll need to use a micro sd card.

If you don't have a SD card, try using the one on the original TnT 2.4 thread by Roebeet. The dl link is found at the bottom of the first post.

ok got it..i used the sd card from my phone and loaded the clockwork recovery on it and it installed..i flashed tnt lite 2.4 and vegan..going to give them both a trial run to see what the difference is..is anyone using vegan?

i'm using vegan.. i was using tnt lite 2.4 for a few weeks. I went to vegan mainly for the lock screen, but stayed because it's so friggin snappy. I have not intention of going back to tnt lite

I got the gTab and looked at the instructions for rooting. I followed the instructions and it worked. After using it for a while it started force closing apps so I decided to restart it. Once I did that it went into a boot loop. While trying to solve that I found that while many aren't having that problem many are. Trying to fix the problem is much more involved than the original rooting process. I must have done something wrong or there are bad instructions out there because after manually pushing some files to the device it wouldn't even show the logo when starting up.

Thankfully I was able to return the device.

I purchased the Samsung Galaxy and have had a much better experience with that device. While it's certainly weaker spec wise it's a much higher quality device and it comes with the market so there isn't a great need to root the device. Also many of the apps that refused to run on the gTab ran fine on the Galaxy device. And here is the interesting part. Even though the Galaxy tab is slower spec wise its operation is much smoother than my experience with the gTab. Perhaps the firmware has as much to do with performance (or more in this case) than the processor.

If the Galaxy is too expensive or too small for you then I suggest you wait for a different device that will have the android market. Perhaps one of these.

Notion Ink Adam

I would get one of these but find the smaller size of the Galaxy is nice for what I use it for.

there's always a "need" to root..

hope the sammy works out for ya, i just couldn't justify $200 more for a smaller slower machine..

People pay for convenience all the time. That's why the Ipad is a great seller. Same goes for other good Out of the box devices like the Galaxy tab. I always thought rooting was a preference where it might not be needed for a particular person or device. So if a person prefers not to root, then I think we all can agree...stay away from the G-tab.

Either wait for a better tab like the Notion Ink or pay for the convenience of having a better out of the box device.

Awww sorry to hear that. We would have helped you out with the Gtab because this device is pretty awesome. I've ate my bowls of bootloops before with the G-tab and Droid 1. These two devices are virtually unbrickable and I think we or the people at XDA could have helped. But nonetheless, the galaxy tab is pretty sweet, and at the end, if a person is happy with their purchase then it's all good.

At the moment I'd highly suggest taking a "wait and see" attitude with regard to the Norton Ink Adam. Several prominent bloggers reported that Norton Ink pushed back delivery on the Adam several more weeks. I got the impression that some were starting to think that the Adam might just be vaporware...

A more recent blog entry by SlashGear and by the CEO of Norton Ink leads us to believe that the delay is only affecting 50 or so people... but the fact that Norton Ink has not, as of yet, gotten official FCC approval on the tablets (they passed the tests in early December but don't expect to receive official FCC approval till the first of January) gives me reason to be leery of that product and company.

i flashed vegan but its not working right, although the wifi is connected, the internet doesnt work..any thoughts?

There are 2 FS mounted to root on the Gtab...

- /sdcard (is root typically for a real SDcard but on this tablet it actually the internal available memory)

- /sdcard2 (Real SDcard If installed...)

As that triangle tells me your still using the stock recovery (vs. Clockworks) then you want to use '/sdcard' (Not real SDcard in /sdcard2) as the root for the recovery... so try copying files to /sdcard...

Noob here with issues. I downloaded the z4root file and sideloaded it to /sdcard/ in esfile explorer and when I click on the z4root icon and click 'root' it says at the bottom: "attempting to apply root" then flashes to a white screen and reboots my tablet. Is it rooted? I'm ultimately looking to install a different rom to make this thing more functional than it currently is...

You don't need z4root. Please see the How to root guide. It's really detailed.

Have fun rooting! :D

Thank you for the link but I was there before. I didn't go through with that one because I thought you had to root the tablet before installing CWM? Is that not the case? I'm learning as I go so please bear with me... Thanks!

not the case. get CWM running and your device will be rooted automatically in the process of installing a new ROM. no need to root beforehand on the g-tablet.

Awesome! I loaded the clockwork files last night before hitting the hay and booted into safe mode (is that the correct phrase?) at work today and it looked like it worked ok! Now I just need to pick a ROM and I'll be all set.
