Root Is there any way i can make my phone work in Mexico???

My questions is, Is there anything I can do to get service in Mexico? I know that with phones with sim cards all you have to do is buy a card in Mexico insert it into phone and activate. That simple. But is there something that can be done to get signal over there. The main reason I'm asking is because I don't go enough to want to buy a phone over there but I do go often enough that it would be nice to have a working phone. I know that Verizon has some signal in Mexico but not to far in. And where I go is anywhere from 60 to 80 miles in.
Any help is appreciated.

well that will depend on how you want to go about it. first is if sprint has coverage in mexico or not. second would be to find a cdma carrier that has coverage in your area of mexico. the problem would be then is how to flash the evo onto the carrier's network which unfortunately i do not know how to do it. i googled and was able to find a few websites that can do that for you, but you have to pay and they give you some code or something. not sure if i trust those sites, however.

I believe Sprint does have coverage in Mexico but I rather not pay extra for something I can get in Mexico for cheap. Or is there a way I could get that service in Mexico and show up as roaming on my bill???
As for the cdma thing how do I find out if a carrier utilizes that.???

Would Iusacell be available near El Golfo De Santa Clara Sonora, or SanLuis Rio Colorado. Cause I have never heard of that company before. The only ones I have heard of are, Telcel, movistar, and some other one I cant remember right now.

Thanks for the help juicyboy.I have two more questions the first is how do I get the service??? Do I try and find a store or can i do it online by giving some information??? And the other is will I be able to switch back and forth between carriers ??? Maybe by using boot manager??? And again thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

yes, u can activate ur phone online. I never try switch back between carriers, I have it activated on Iusacell (Mexico) nd to make calls/txt to USA I use an application called Line2 (voip) for $9.95/month. u can send me mp 4 more info

Does this still work? I have a Samsung Epic from sprint and will be vacationing in Cancun and would like to be able to use the internet while I am there.

Not sure but you might roam internationally but the rates might kill ya :)
A phone call to Sprint might be the answer if no one here knows;)
