Is this device doomed to low sales? Probably not

This is indeed a great phone. I'm coming from a droid x that was great as well but we lost a lot of devs due to the bootloader. i hope that its popularity picks up quickly and the custom roms and themes as well.
 
Stetson, that is one good looking ROM, I would like that one on my Revo! No Dock was the only thing I question does it auto hide?
 
Oh, i'm not a ROM Dev, just a lil themer, lol. I just hope whoever makes Blade Runner keeps the lockscreen, or at least the notifications, i love how they show up there in the middle and you can swipe them down to go to them... That and the "Music Drawer" at the top when you have music playing on the lockscreen is pretty sweet.
 
I truly believe once people play with this phone and see it's capabilities, sales will pick up. Especially if Best Buy, Amazon, and the other outlets peddle this at the prices I am reading about, this phone is a steal. Word will get out there soon enough. Like I said in the first impressions post, it is growing on me... Battery life is pretty good with stock battery. Bing is a non-issue IMHO. Root or No-Root the phone is responsive, fast, and a joy to use.

I was hoping the same thing regarding the fact that it was rooted so quickly. The X is such a great phone and X users have been horribly spoiled by ROMs and themes. Because of that its easy to forget that this phone just came out. Sad that it didnt have more fanfare as it really does look impressive. Glad there are some biased thoughts in this forum regarding pros and cons. There is no perfect phone that satisfies everyone and knowing what an issue is or is not and wether its something that would bother "you" is a great start.

Just need to get 58 one of these. He'll get this train rolling. :)

Some reviewers are biased against LG, so they try to nit pick or look for something to complain and don't give credits to things that deserve. What counts more to me is actual user reviews on VZW, amazon, bestbuy, etc.

I agree with this entirely. I was waiting on the Bionic or to see if the Samsung Function (GS2) would have LTE (unlikely), but my patience is running thin and I've been considering picking up a TB or Revo. Definitely not a Charge, I had one for a week and returned it. That was a train wreck of a phone that never should have been released; the only good thing about it was the beautiful screen. Poor dev support, can't be underclocked during sleep or it crashes, RFS filesystem made it feel as laggy as my OG Droid, and more.

Between the Revo and the TB, I honestly like the look and feel of the Revo hardware a lot more than that of the TB, but I'm considering going with the TB instead because the dev community is so well-established, as is always the case for HTC phones. XDA is the best dev community around and they just love HTC. I don't know if the Revo will ever get CM7 support or a kernel that stably overclocks it to 1.8GHz or anything awesome like that. For anyone who roots, all you need is good hardware and the approval of XDA; the software that comes with the phone can be total crap, it's gonna be replaced soon anyway.

Then again, the TB is having issues with random Gingerbread users bricking and is just locked down in general where the Revo is totally unlocked. Ugh, such a dilemma.

The lock down, battery issues and software delimna are the big reasons I took the TB back. Rooting this sucker was more than a pain, but like you said, HTC is so established over there and since that's where "it" really all starts, you almost have to have some love on XDA our you can forget it.
 
I am torn between returning the LG Revo and getting the Droid Charge as the daily driver again. On the Charge, I had much better battery usage, quicker page load-up, better 3G and 4G speeds, less drops on 4G Mobile Hotspot, the big draw back on the Charge was its lag, glitchy RFS file system (Fixable with Voodoo). If debated memory is the same 512 MB, the only real benefit to LG Revo is the VoLTE chip for the future. But if I am attached to a power outlet all the time, then I am sure I will be on a WIFI connection. A little down on the phone I initially liked a lot.

Wow. That's a big turnaround. The lag alone would irritate the crap out of me. I could handle a battery draw vs lag, but I'm always near a power source. The big difference for me was the MASSIVE battery draw on the TB in which my phone would drop 50% just being on standby for an hour. Tried the software update, but this thing was not ready for prime time. Perhaps it's a 4G thing?

At 7 AM, 100% to now at 5PM it is at 60% charge, with moderate to heavy use at times, including the phonecall for 30 minutes to VZW Tier 2 Tech, where it dropped offline several times, but call stayed connected-Wierd, never had that happen before.

The LG Revo does load websites slower than Charge... What do you think is causing that?

From what I know (which is very little), the loading from stock browsers is an entirely different experience on every device. Each manufacturer has (I think) their own web based kits. You can do setting modifications to help with cache and etc, but I use Xscope. I have been using it since I moved from the Droid X and used Skyfire, Dolphin, Opera and stock browser. Xscope has always been a favorite of mine, with Opera being a close 2nd. I know that the TB had some great page renderings on their stock browser, but I used Xscope on it too and got the same great results. It also depends on what you are visiting and what you are doing within that site.

As for the call/data, were you traveling during the call (on the road)? I don't think 4G is ready for prime time yet IMHO as there are a ton of things that will still need to get ironed out, most noticeably the hand off from 3G to 4G towers which seems to be giving users some fits. I can't personally say as it hasn't made it to my area yet (in a few days).
 
kramerica, I was in a solid 3G Network coverage area, had all towers within view and 4/5 bars the whole time. The LG Revo was set to CDMA-Automatic only. The call would go silent for 3 minutes, back on for 2-3, then silent, then on, did it about three times on a *611 call. never had that happen before on any other phone, stay connected but extended mute for both parties. The VZW Tech laughed as he waived the $35 fee if I want to return the phone. Any thoughts?

The most solid thought I have is that it's pretty cool they are waiving the $35 restocking fee.

As for the rest, I honestly have no idea. That is just flat crazy and can honestly say I have never had that happen to me on any phone. Were you on bluetooth? The fact that you were traveling I think has a little weight for tower swap off, but I'm no tech. The setting automatic only could have something to do with it as well if you have the 4G toggle on. Again, I really have no idea, but without knowing if that has happened to others, the comparisons are hard to follow for troubleshooting.
 
No bluetooth, have not checked that out yet, been using the speakerphone, never really considered it was the speakerphone cutting in and out... Could have been that too, that would really bum me out. Speaker phone is important to me.

Interesting for sure. Normally when you cut out, the call just drops on tower swapping (for me anyway). I deal with it almost every day as there is a spot on the interstate and my exit where I can count on losing my signal when I get on the Interstate.

As for the speakerphone, I am a bluetooth criminal as I live and love the headsets. Still searching for the perfect one. :)

Ugh, I had the Charge and hated it. The lag was unbearable. I returned it before Voodoo was around but I doubt it would have helped much because the Charge has much less RAM than these other phones. Furthermore, 2nd gen Snapdragon is just more powerful than 1st gen Hummingbird (I've heard the Hummingbird's GPU is more powerful; is this true? By how much? Because Snapdragon's CPU is considerably more powerful).

In my mind, the most important thing is that the phone should have very little to absolutely no lag. We have 1GHz+ phones with some of them having dual cores; in this era of smartphones, there is NO reason to have lag on a mobile OS. These things are approaching the power of netbooks which run a full desktop OS like Linux or Windows.

I think it all bogs down to individual user experience and patience. If this phone isn't working for you right now and you would rather not wait until the issues are resolved then by all means you should look elsewhere. gunnerjim and other users having problems, if you decide to leave the revo family we are glad for you all being open to explaining why and not just bashing the phone. but we hope you all stay!
