Root Is this for real? ICS for Spectrum!

MY 2 cents.

If you buy a phone, do not EXPECT updates from the carriers, if you grab a cheap phone like the spec and get an update awesome. But ever since my first android device I see this happen year in and year out with people clamoring to get the latest OS on their devices. Fact of the matter is - your phone shipped with a certain OS running - it was built for said OS, and NO ONE HAS OFFICIALLY STATED IT WOULD GET UPDATED.

Sorry to burst peoples bubbles but if you want regular updates:
1) Never buy an LG phone this happens with ALL of them
2) Buy a nexus device because it will always have a rockin' dev community behind it
3)DONT BUY LG
4)Even if your broke - DONT BUY LG

LG makes decent cheap phones. But they have NEVER been prompt with updates
Great, where were you before I got the Spec?
Sony is AOSP certified now too.
The old OG Moto Droid1 got me spoiled, it would not matter about LG and VZW if we could just do a AOSP ROM on these phones, sucks we can't.

Really, all I have heard people say is that they have been TOLD it is forthcoming, and being told by some jackass making minimum wage is FAR FAR different than a press release or any other official statements from LG or VZW

EDIT please point out to me where it says its upgradable, im getting old and my eyes arnt as good as they used to be

Savoxis, I see where they are coming from now. LG's site (lgnewsroom.com) Where they have their press releases Clearly says the upgrade to 4.0 WILL be available the 1st half of 2012.

3rd Bullet Point under Key Features:
• Android™ 2.3 Gingerbread (Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade available the first half of 2012);

LG CES

Therefore the complaints against LG hold water/and are legitimate. Verizon on the other hand, probably not so much.

I knew I've seen that before for LG. But for all I've seen Verizon has their assess covered until New Years day 2013. I'm sure there is a contract between LG and Verizon stating 2nd quarter 2012 but there are probably so many contingencies in it that LG won't be able to pull Verizon down with them.

Yes I see. But at the same time its kind of silly to buy LG Phones expecting OTA updates, especially with the track record of VZW and LG.

I still dont think anyone has any recourse - if you make a big enough stink you may be able to swap phones with one of the same value. But good luck with that.

(everyone would be so much happier if they researched phones before they bought them and checked to make sure there where steady developer communities - I know when a friend of mine asks me about a phone they are thinking about buying I always hit up google and androidpolice)

I understand that, but they still effectively promised an update.

Did that, how I wound up here.
My wife had the choice this time around so I got what she wanted (will not happen again). But to be fair the sales pitch of the ICS in 2nd quarter made me not regret her choice, that is until now.

Again, a ICS AOSP ROM and I would be happy as a clam. (Clams are happy right? That is why they always look like they are smiling (|).)

They have to release it, or they must replace my phone if I choose so. In their sales papers it explicitly said that is will be upgradable to Android 4 ICS blah blah, so yes, yes they did OFFICIALLY state it will be updated. And not only on those papers. That is blatantly false advertisement.

"upgradable" is not a contractual agreement TO upgrade, it means the phone COULD be upgraded. Unless you have it explicitly stated in YOUR CONTRACT (big emphasis) that it will be updated, you have no basis for a complaint if it's never upgraded.

I'm rather tired of saying this... You guys need to let it go, enjoy the phone you have and celebrate if/when we get the update.

Actually I've got a rather practical approach on informing users about the upgrade. Just put that entire quote as your sig. End of story :D.

I'm enjoying my phone, it's doing everything that its supposed to do, so no complaints there.

Actually the way vzw worded this statement could be viewed differently depending on which side you are on. If I'm big red it could very easily be viewed as you say "could" be upgradeable. For the consumer would read it as it upgradable (no could in the press release). In fact, the other swing of the pendulem "could" read that at the time of the press release the phone was in fact upgradeable to android 4.0. If I read it in the context of the press release it would seem that the phone was shipped with gingerbread but upon opening the box it would be upgradeable to android 4.0. Depends on your point of view. Logical progression would seem that vzw is in hot water. But this is obviously coming from the owners perspective.

So the question is how does this fit into law? Right now all spectrum owners under contract are stuck with a faulty device (according to the contract and coinciding press releases) and no way out of the contract besides paying more $ to the creator of the contract. Since Vzw wrote the contract I believe they would be liable for clear (not misleading) text. The contractor (consumer) would be responsible for following the contract. Right now I cannot follow the contract because when I go to update my phone I am unable to get to ICS. I am following my end of the deal but the entity who wrote it is not.

I think ur the law man right mrb? Sure love to see ur (owner perspective) thoughts on the matter.

Just get over it!!!!! If it happens it happens if it doesn't it doesn't. Just complaining to Verizon is doing absolutely nothing. Do you honestly think they care is your thoughts? I mean really c'mon now. I get it we were promised and all but look at it this way. This phone is still awesome no matter what. Awesome speeds awesome 4G awesome everything ( except battery ) I mean whoever doesn't buy a phone like this for 50$ really doesn't know how it is to have a great working cheap phone. Go ahead and go buy a HTC or a Motorola and see how their quality is. I mean they don't update their phone either and the evo shift should have got ics and so should have droid 4 . Which is also on the list for an upgrade and is in the same boat as us. Either way your paying a great amount for a phone that has yet to get an update on those devices on LG you pay a small amount and even if you don't get the update this phone is still awesome.

Thanks Mega. No disrespect intended but I'm actually looking for a solution to the current problem not another person to tell me to get back into line and wait your turn. Im already getting that from Verizon and im paying $200/mo for it. (What service eh? Lol. )

I'm looking for options and would like to assist the small group of spectrum owners in the process. As a group we can do this, but divided we cannot.

So in the words of Tim Allen "calm up!" :D

Jesh you can interpret it however you like, but I'm telling you as someone that went to law school that the vz Site makes no promise or agreement, merely a factual sales point. The board and phone, like many others from vz, are upgradable to 4.0.

I can give you a long explanation why, but I'll have to do it later... I'm working on a Saturday and don't have time right now. :/

But then who's fault is it paying for Verizon then why not get sprint or something else? :|

B. Cool man. Not trying to read into anything just wondering where i stand. My question is, if you went under contract after the press release, which is most of us I'm guessing, where do I stand?

Death got it to boot!!

As is not complaining or doing anything. You logic makes no sense. That logic is also why... Meh, not going there.

I enjoy the phone, does what I need it to, would love to update, neither happy nor distraught about the situation.
