Help Is this normal with my android?

I have an lg optimus m from metropcs, and whenever I call someone over the 1xrtt or wifi, the person on the other end sounds choppy and like a robot. the best way to describe it is that in certain parts they say something it sounds like their voice is autotuned but not really tuned lol, like that weird up and down robot sound. is this a phone issue or a service issue? sometimes when they say a word, it cuts out for a sec like instead of saying *hello* it would be like he....llo with like an autotune choppy sound. is this the metropcs service? because my boost mobile phone also runs on 1xrtt (cdma x) and it doesn't sound as bad. the voices on my new lg optimus sound slow and laggy. I really hope i don't have to send my phone back. is it because, even tho metrop uses the 1x, it is a little worse?

nah i would say its a phone glitch cause my friend has a huawei ascend from metro and has 1x andw he sounds fine Nd i sound fine to him. his is rooted and with cm7 so if i wad u i would try to root it and find a rom u lile and see if it fixes ur problem.

Skype and everything else sounds fine. It happens only when I do the dialer. It sounds choppy over wifi too

Skype uses the internet (1x/WiFi). Standard phone calls do not use the internet to make calls. If you have few or no signal bars, that's the reason for your troubles. If you have full bars and still sound like that, it may be a sign that Metro's signal as a whole is bad in your area or the phone has trouble maintaining a stable voice connection. Do other Metro users in your area have the same problem with phone calls?

You could also attempt to update your prl. Idk if it is supposed to directly affect calls or not but it did help my buddy when he had this issue and he was already on the up to date prl(3019.) you can check which prl you have by going to Settings then about phone. To update it dial *228 and after the prompt to continue in Spanish press 5. Good luck hope this proves helpful, post results please. Also, I would highly recommend you root your optimus m as it will seem like you have a brand new top of the line android afterwards. I would recommend the updated sense rom as it looks and feels great and now includes the oc kernel already over clocked.

Well I did update my phone with *228 but seems it did nothing. If I lay on my bed with my phone against my ear then I hear more static. Its like I have to hold it a certain way without moving my body. do you think I got
A broken handset. It was brand new. I always have a problem with electronics so idk. but when I go outside it sounds really choppy. I live in brooklyn ny. By bros phone doesn't do this. We are both on metro pcs

Well, if that is the case you may have an issue with the internal antenna, maybe you should go ahead and take advantage of the warranty. The only downside is most likely the new phone will be updated to 2.2.2 and as far as I know it is not yet able to be rooted. But you can't have a phone that is glitchiing like that either so I would go ahead and switch it out. There are many dedicated devs around so I am sure 2.2.2 will be rooted sooner than later anyways. Good luck.

well right now it's not glitching as bad, it's like as certain parts of a call, the persons voice breaks up a little. My brothers does it too but not as bad. My mother thinks it's just the technology, both my bro and mom think I'm crazy but I notice it on that phone. They are like, well if you don't want it I'll take it lol

Take the phone back, that sure does sound like a hardware glitch, internal ant as mentioned.

Dont worry bout the phone version, I doubt metro is selling any with 2.2.2 on it. they already consider the phone end of life.
and you can downgrade the phone to 2.2.1 if it does have 2.2.2
