is your battery cover branded " With google"

My first one was without the Google branding and it displayed rev 0. I took it back and exchanged it for one "With Google" and it displays rev A. There were also 3 other demo phones in the store that did not have the "With Google" branding and they ALL showed rev 0.

I find it very hard to believe that these are all the same software/hardware. Something is different. I have no clue as to what, but there is definitely something different.

I would like to know if there is anyone out there that has an "Non Google" branded phone that just says "HTC" on the cover and is seeing rev A displayed?...........Anyone?

Ive been saying this since the issue first came up.
 
No Google on cover and rev 0 here. Could this be the reason I get no service in my neighborhood? I picked my phone up on Friday the 9th from Best Buy using the Rewards Zone membership for early release.

Not likely. They say Rev 0 is only a visual bug, meaning even if you are on Rev A, your phone would still show Rev 0. Its not something that would keep you from getting service all together.
 
Well I have the hero without the Google and my coworker just got his today with the Google logo and we both have EVDO O . this issue have been going on since release of the hero and its stated that their is no differences in the phone capabilities over all

Are you sure you both just werent actually on Rev 0?

The fact remains, something has to be different to allow one phone to show Rev A connections while the other doesnt. The capabilities might be the same, but that doesnt change the fact that something isnt the same.
 
I picked mine up from a Sprint store this past weekend (the 17th), and mine only has the "HTC" at the bottom. I noticed the Hero my dad got (when it was first released) is about 5 shades lighter in color, but I dont know what his battery cover says. I know they all cant be exact, but at first glance his isnt even the same color.
 
I picked up my Hero on the 11th, couldn't make the choice on the 9th, so went home to think about it...i picked it up from BB, and it only says HTC on the back. i guess as long as it makes calls and pretty much works I don't care what it says on the back! :-)
 
I have a "with google" on my phone and have rev 0 but the phone internet runs fast download and upload. Tested by downloading a video and uploading a 5mb recorded video and they both were pretty darn fast. Its a visual glitch i think IMHO people just want to see the with google sign. I keep hearing there is something different between the two phones. Let's make a list and i guarantee you there is none, except that non google phone are more likely to see the REV 0 signal.

Yes,but the question still stands, why? What did they do different on the "Non Google" branded phones? :confused:
 
I got my Hero last Friday (10/16) it is not marked 'with Google' and shows Rev O

I just received two more Hero's for my family and both have 'with Google' and show Rev A.

The question should be What did they do different on the "Non google" and some "with google" that show rev 0. As i wrote i have a with google phone and shows rev 0. To me its a glitch with the software like we can say why do some phones email sync work and others don't or why does my phone stay awake 22% of the day and some 100% even though we set the settings the same. It's life and until we get an update(1.6) from htc or sprint all we can do is guess and draw conclusions that will only make us circle back to the subject "non google" or "with google".
 
I believe the first ones off the assembly line were not branded. Also, the software has to be different for it to be incorrectly saying Rev 0 on non branded phones.

Which is the point some of us have been trying to make. Its not a "random" bug. Earlier models display this differently than then newer ones.
 
Throwing this out here... Mine as stated above is non branded and im having issues where i take a video and it shows up but is currupt (60% of the time)... additionally when I take a video i see color corruption on the preview... any thoughts? has anyone else seen this
im trying to narrow it down to an SD card issue vs a phone issue

Can you set it to save in the phone not the sd card and see if the results are the same.

My non branded phone shoots great video. I've shot about 12 each between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. No corruption in the files or any color strangeness.

I swapped out my phone last night at Best Buy. I now have a dust free branded phone that shows EVDO rev A. No difference in reception at all. We will see how long this lasts.

Funny you mention the dust. When the dust under the glass was first mentioned, I barely had any. I checked it today and it seems to be getting worse.

Non-branded. Purchased on the 9th. Shows Rev 0. Otherwise, no real issues with the phone. Im going to keep an eye on the dust. if it continues to get worse, I will either exchange the phone for a new one OR I'll just jump ship to the Moment on the 1st. It all just depends on how much I like the feel of the Moment.

The dust will get worse... I do not think you are going to like the Moment over the Hero. I was also watching but after the Cnet review yesterday I am sticking to my Hero.
 
***UPDATE*** I am currently testing my Hero that I replaced last night with the Google branding side by side with a non Google branded Hero. I have both phone browsers pointed to speakeasy speed test and have run 10 tests side by side. So far my Google branded phone has won every single test. Some of them are fairly close and others I completely blow the non branded phone away. My peak numbers were 1718/426 and the non branded phone was 1445/391/. My numbers are also pretty consistent where the non branded phone jumps around.
 
i have a non-branded phone and my peak number was a little above 2500

edit:
also, i see some folks mentioning that they believe the non-branded phones to be first off the line. if anyone remembers watching or seeing any reviews you will see (if memory serves) all those early review phones had the google stamp on the back.
