Help Issues connecting phone to computer

Lurker
Hi all,

I seem to have run into an issue with my phone recently - very often it won't mount the USB drive on my PC when I activate USB mode on my phone once plugged in. The notice on my phone pops up telling me that I can mount the SD card on my computer, which 90% of the time does not work once I click the button to mount the drive over USB. The application simply just sits there with the orange android for anywhere from a second to all the way up to a minute, after which it will just "crash" and then give me a new notice.

The only "fix" (which is very tedious) I have found, is to unmount my SD card first (on the phone, through settings -> storage), try to mount USB mass storage on the phone by clicking the notice, waiting a minute or so, closing the notice, and then remounting my SD card and trying to mount through USB again. That seems to work every time and gets my USB drive mounted on the computer, but it just takes so long, so I was wondering if there's a way to fix this.

I am by the way running CyanogenMod 7.0 stable on my phone. It was released today, and I was kinda hoping that would have fixed it.

I also want to note that I am not using the standard HTC cable as my old Nokia used the same cable, so I have run a cable specifically to a dock on my desktop, which I'd like to use. But considering it's stable enough once it works, I can't imagine it's the cables fault.

Any pointers?

Nothing in particular jumps out at me, but here's a couple of things to try:

1. Swap the cables temporarily i.e. use the HTC one to connect to the PC and see if that makes a difference. If not....

2. See if reformating the sdcard in the handset helps; copy the contents to the PC as a backup first!
