Root Issues: Icarus 1.1 to CM6 and back again...

Hi All,

I had Icarus 1.1 running just fine, but went ahead and tried out CM6 for a couple weeks. That process involved upgrading Clockwork Mod from 2.x to 3.x, and that whole process went fine. I then decided I wanted to go back to Icarus, and that's where I started running into problems.

I had created a backup of my phone with Clockwork Mod (can't remember if it was 2.x or 3.x at the time), but when I restore that backup none of the apps work, even though the shortcuts are still present but with generic icons. This wouldn't be an issue except that I can't get google market back on it. I also can't tell if it's using App2sd after the restore, which I'm thinking might be the issue. When I use amazon market to restore some of the apps it acknowledges that the apps are present and I am re-installing the app.

I got frustrated with trying to restore everything, so I tried to reflash a fresh Icarus 1.1 rom. I reistalled Clockwork Mod 2.x, formatted everything suggested in the directions, partitioned the SD card, and the installation completed successfully in Clockwork Mod. However, when I reboot the phone after this, it gets to a point where it just shows the boot animation and never moves past it. I left it for a good half hour and it would not stop.

I then installed a fresh CM6 back on, and got the phone working. Then I formatted the SD card, partitioned it and restored my clockwork backup of the original Icarus installation I did. That had the same results as before with no apps.

So now I'm back on CM6 and wanting to get back onto Icarus 1.1 (restored from my previous install or fresh install). Any ideas why Icarus won't boot from a fresh install, or why my apps aren't working on the restore?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit: I meant to say I am installing CM7 rather than 6.

Try flashing back to stock and then again to Icarus. You can flash any of the mods with cwm2xxxx like PG said, i have done all three with it. I like cm 6, why don't you like it?

I totally meant to say that I installed CM7. I don't like it because the wired headset/headphones doesn't work with calls. I listen to Pandora at work and it's annoying not being able to use the headset to accept calls when they come in. I also like being able to pause Pandora with the button on the headphones. And when I unplug the headphones, Pandora keeps playing and blares out the speakers.

I haven't tried CM6, but I know the way I want things to work DO work in Icarus 1.1, so that's why I was opting to just go back to that. I might put CM6 on and see if it works out for me.

The reason I've been changing CWM versions is that I believe the instructions on this forum for installing CM6/7 advised upgrading or at least linked to a specific version (I think they do anyway, but I could be wrong). I just assumed that the roms were version specific. I know that CWM 3.x was giving an error when trying to install Icarus, but it installs fine through CMW 2.x.

Anyway, if CM6 does what I want, then great. Otherwise I'll try flashing back to stock and see if I can go from there.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Ok, so I reverted back to stock. I'm on Cricket and used the Force Update Method and the phone booted fine. I then installed CWM2.x, followed what I believe to be all the steps to format the phone, and installed Icarus 1.1 without any issues in CWM. I boot it up and it still does the same thing where it keeps showing the boot animation forever... It looks like going back to Icarus isn't going to be an option for me. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Well, I'm not sure what did it, but I found my pre-Icarus backup, restored that, and then went into CWM, formatted SD, partitioned SD, put post-Icarus restore back on my card, ran the restore and booted up with working apps. I tried a larger partition this time, so maybe that did the trick. I really think Apps2sd wasn't working on any of my other attempts.

Anyway, I'm back where I want to be for the time being. I'd have tried CM6, but the hosting site for the rom isn't working well for me. Perhaps I'll give it a try in the future.

Thanks all.
