Help Issues with Android

Now, I know I am going to sound a bit whiny but please bear with me.

I love the Android OS. It's a great little OS for cell phones (I own an HTC Desire). I have so many issues with it that I don't really know where to begin so I will list it. Please give me your input into these issues or advice to solve it.

1) Most applications have to be manually stopped (force close) before it stops running. I generally don't have a problem with this but when it uses my internet in the background, it really pisses me off. I'm being charged for using data when I don't even want to.

2) There are some apps that cannot be removed such as the default ones that are installed. I don't use apps such as Footprints, Twitter, Peep nor check the Stocks or RSS (whatever that is). They also run in the background and I assume they are also using the internet.

3) HTC Weather was poorly designed. If I am updating the weather but something interrupts the process, all of the previous weather data is lost. It also happens when I move from one city to another (pretty much everyday as I don't work in the same city I live in). I move out of my city and the weather information disappears as the current location changed. IMO, the weather doesn't really differ between areas 3 km apart.

I changed all my settings so that no apps are allowed to use the internet in the background and my internet is mostly inactive.

Any form of advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking of that however; that will be my last option if nothing else works. I'm generally scared of doing things to my electronic devices as I've never had luck with anything. One time I left for a one week vacation. When I came back, my computer was running slower than normal. And the computer wasn't even touched while I was gone.

Well thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind and will root it if I absolutely have to.

a) force closing your apps is a bad idea and not necessary. browse around for the (very lengthy) discussions why.
b) make sure you're hitting the back button to get out of your apps, that'll close them down. if you hit the home button they generally stay running for a while.
c) are you on a limited data plan? is that why you're concerned with internet usage? At any rate, when android keeps processes in the background, I believe it generally just caches them for easy recall-- that is, they won't be using internet. (Again, if you hit the HOME button to get out of an app, it could continue using internet for a little while).
d) The only way to get rid of the apps that come with the phone that you don't want is to root your phone. Kinda sucks if you don't want to root your phone, but there you have it. Not too big an issue for most people, and rooting your phone is fun anyhow!
e) HTC Weather-- that sucks, sorry? I dunno, but you can try one of the many weather apps out there for free on the market. I use Go Weather.

Yeah I always press the BACK button. I rarely ever press the HOME button unless I know that I want the program to stay alive. Also, I am not really on a limited plan. Right now I'm in Germany and have a very cheap plan. 1 GB 3G per month and if I go over that, I get unlimited but back down to a slower speed. When I return to Canada, the rates will go up so right now I'm trying to get in the habit of conserving my data use.

And the HTC Weather app only sucks because it does not give you your previous results when something goes wrong. Instead, it says "no data available". It's especially annoying when I take the train to work everyday as I enter into a new city that's 3 km away. I mean comon, the weather doesn't change within 3 km.
