Root Issues with Myn's RLS4

I am running Fresh 3.4 with netarchy 4.2. I've tried twice to flash Myn's RLS4 but have run into major issues both times and had to restore from nandroid backup. Would still love to give it a try as so many users have raved about Myn's ROM. These are the problems I've had...appreciate everyone's help as always!

Major issue: The stock browser crashes every time I tried to load any full (non-mobile) page. I can load mobile pages (like espn mobile), but if I try to go to the full version the browser closes (not a force close, it just closed). I tried flashing different font packages as I've read that they can cause problems with the browser, but no luck. I know I could try a different browser like Dolphin, but that really doesn't solve the original problem...plus I am happy with the stock browser and prefer to use it.

Major issue: For some reason, I would "lose" apps after flashing a new font package. The apps were all there after flashing the ROM, but when I went to flash a new font package (the dark coconut one), many of them were just dropped. As far as I could tell, the missing apps were ones that were added to Folder Organizer. I have no idea why this was happening, but I couldn't get to the apps even if I went to the apps list. I also couldn't restore them from Titanium...if I picked the "restore missing apps" option, it would just hang. Weird, I know...but I never saw this behavior with Fresh. And yes, I did a full data wipe and wiped cache + dalvik (twice) before flashing.

Performance doesn't seem to be nearly as good with Myn as many people claim (at least with the stock kernel). I tried flashing netarchy kernel but quadrant scores were still lower than with Fresh. Still, if I can get past the above issues, I would still like to give this ROM another try...I did like a lot of the "little" features, like the customizable rosie and notifications bar.

Finally, a question for all you ROM-masters out there: if you're using a Sense ROM (like Fresh) and flashing another Sense ROM (like Myn), what's the best way to preserve your home screens and widgets? For some reason, I seem to lose most of my Sense widgets (like Bookmarks and Contacts) after flashing and have to reinstall them. I've also noticed that if you're using Facebook contact linking for pictures, you have to reinstall your contacts from a backup to get the links back, otherwise you have to manually relink them. Seems like these are the kinds of things that Titanium Pro (which I use) should handle. Thanks...

I had the same issue with the browser closing when I tried installing Myn's Warm 2.2 to my gf evo. I cleared the data, cache, and delvik prior to flashing the rom but the browser still closed. I posted this issue a few days ago and some members suggested installing her apps one by one to see if an app is causing the browser to close.

What apps do you have installed? Also, what hardware version is your phone?

Like a lot of people here, I've got too many apps so installing them one by one isn't a good option. hw version is 0002. In any case, it seems unlikely that the problem is with apps or hw, or the browser would act up with other ROMs. Again, not to compare the two ROMs unfavorably, but flashing Fresh didn't give me any of these issues.

Honestly not sure what it is. I installed the same ROM and Kernel on my phone without issue. The only difference between my phone and hers is the hardware version and her apps. It could just be how the ROM interacts with certain configurations including apps. Gonna give it a try this week. I'll let you know if the browser issue clears on her phone.

how are you restoring them after the change to Myn's from fresh? in bulk or one by one?

are you doing a full wipe of dalvik, cache, battery stats and factory wipe prior to installation of myn's?

my browser (i use skyfire) only crashes when I overclock the processor beyond about 1200.

I'm restoring the apps in bulk...that's the feature I paid for with Titanium Pro :) It's really not worth the time and trouble to restore one by one unless there's a very clear upside.

I do a full data wipe (factory reset), cache, and dalvik (twice) before flashing. Can't see where wiping battery stats would have any relationship with this browser issue, but I'll try it in the future.

The stock kernel with Myn doesn't allow overclocking, so I don't think that could be it...although you did give me an idea, I'm using SetCPU and it's possible that after restoring it the settings are still non-default and that is upsetting the ROM...I may give it another try.

My guess is that this is a legacy bug with Myn's ROM and the stock browser under certain configurations, and that the reason most people don't see it is that many users on this forum use another browser besides stock. I may install a different browser this week to prove my theory.

I still don't understand why I was losing apps, but I have tried to flash Myn's twice and both times had issues with Folder Organizer. This ROM just doesn't seem to get along with Folder Organizer very well.

No issues with folder organizer here. I did have an issue with titanium missing about 15 apps when I restored....the shortcuts are still kept in the folder organizer settings and they appeared in their folders....but not the app drawer. A quick check of titanium showed they were not installed.

Still not sure about your browser ...checking setcpu sounds like a good idea

If you are restoring SetCPU from within Titanium Backup and are restoring the app and it's data then your setting will be the same as they were when you backed the app up. This could be causing some of your issues.

As for the browser, I've run the stock browser only and have not encountered problems with non-mobile websites. I know this doesn't change the reality of your issue but I state that to show that the stock browser is capable of running properly on Myn's.

You could try flashing the ROM and test the browser BEFORE restoring any apps. If you problem disappears then you have a pretty clear indication that one of your apps is the culprit.

I suppose it's possible, but I would think a corrupt zip wouldn't install at all...not produce an error that's specific to full HTML web viewing only (mobile web sites display fine).

This discussion is proving one thing: the loyalty to this ROM is definitely over the top, which leads me to believe I should definitely try again. I may wait until the next release though...they seem to come fairly frequently.

I used to use myns out worked great, then about 2 updates ago it started getting buggy. I have hw 002 as well maybe he it's working to hard to get hw 004 support? Not sure but I went to cm6 and am loving it.

Malicious: I was thinking also about getting away from sense ROM to CM6...I'm really getting tired of the lag under Sense. Is 4G and Bluetooth supported in your CM setup? How about Folder Organizer or some other way to organize apps? Theme?

Do you happen to have hulu installed from Myn's page? I isolated the problem on my gf evo to the version of hulu installed. For some reason the version from his site caused the browser to close. The version from Warm Updater worked with no problems.

As far as I know, I didn't have Hulu installed unless it was included in the base Warm ROM...is it? If so, this is the kind of thing that gives me pause...that would seem to be a pretty large and nasty bug in the base ROM.

I'm going to wait and see if the latest OTA update gets included in his ROM, then I may try again (with the updated Hulu)...thanks for the tip!

And yes, I did a full data wipe and wiped cache + dalvik (twice) before flashing.
Out of curiosity, which Recovery method are you using clockworkmod or RA?

I'd try two things if you're still having problems, 1) if you haven't already, try wiping the browser data. If that doesn't help, delete the browser then reinstall.............all done through TiBU.

I'm using Clockwork. I know that the Warm updater doesn't work well with Clockwork, but I'm not willing to switch from Clockwork...the nandroid backup and restore work very well and I'm used to it.

I will try wiping the browser and/or deleting and reinstalling...good ideas both!

FWIW- I felt the same way about clockworkmod until the past 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading and experimenting with ROMS, flashing, etc..... I lost count on the amount of times [experienced] people have hinted at CWM not properly deleting/wiping caches, especially Dalvik cache. That 'could' very well be your problem, I just switched over to RA yesterday myself so I'm anxious to see if I get FC problems as frequently as I was while switching around ROMS with CWM.
